1 Ohm on Strapped 1500d?

Recommended Posts

Can a pair of strapped 1500's run a Dual 2 BTL safely? Its below the rated two ohms, but seeing as the power test were dropping insane numbers, I figured it was worth a shot to ask if its been done.

By adequate, what do you mean? Is a 1/0 run for each, with an Optima Yellow, on a 90-100 Amp Alt. adequate?

yeah just for the beginning really try to watch how hard you dim and how low voltage drops. my saz1500 has seen some pretty low voltages in my stock electrical honda accord, so just be careful, keep the gain down and dont kill your car. because your car will die before the amps will. i fackin guarntee that! lol. its coming true for myne...

Two 15000Ds at 1/2 ohm each? That is not adequate. At full output you will dip into the 10s on voltage within a matter of 30 seconds or less. I would highly suggest a 200+ amp alternator, the largest starter battery under the hood you can get, and a Powermaster D3100 or Kinetik 2400 in the back for such a setup if you really want to take advantage of all the power you have on tap.

Hmm... Would the 1/0, Yellow top, with the 90-100A alt work on a 2ohm strapped load? I might be able to jam another battery in the back, but as far as alternators go, are there aftermarket HO alts for foreign cars? Toyota/Scion

Thanks

Trevor,

Yes sir, you can get HO alts for imports :) I've seen them up to 200 amps for Honda, I'm sure someone can make one for your Toyota vehicle.

Well, its probably going in a 2008 or 2009 Scion xB, which uses the same engine as the tC and Camry.

Its the 2.4L 2AZ-FE engine :)

Appreciate all your help!

Woah, DAYM! Thats quite a bit for an alternator. I guess I'll have to work that into the budget too. :)

Well, actually, my initial setup is only going to include one 1500. That should keep me happy for awhile, until I can afford the other 1500 and everything that goes with it. So, I'm thinking my best bet is to buy a Dual 2 BTL, and run it on the 1500d until I can afford to run another 1500d with all the goodies. And on that thought, is a 90A alt, with 1/0 running from a yellow top enough to juice a 1500 @ 1ohm?

Also, Sundownz, I notice on the 1500d power testing, you had a starting battery, another BIG battery, and your factory 85A alt. I'm guessing you were only running the amps at full power for short bursts, and for my street slamming usage, something beefier is needed. Am I close? :)

Thinking out loud,

Trevor,

Correct -- for continuous loud play on material that keeps the amps power output maximized a larger alternator is necessary. The battery is a "buffer" so to speak and can only stay above 12.8 volts so long when the output of the alternator has been overrun by current demand.

One 1500D @ 1 ohm will run fine on stock electrical setups as long as you don't "peg it out" for long periods of time -- for actual music listening you should be good to go pending your electrical upgrades.

I know that Excessive amperage makes one to the fit the old xB and xA so I would contact them about your new xB as that is probably the same as the tC alternator.

Trevor I just ordered a 300 amp alternator from Dominick Iraggi for my Sundown 3000D system..

It was a direct bolt on and does 300 amps at 1.3 revs....

I have a Scion tC so i am certain he makes one for the xB

As far as running a pair of Saz-1500d's strapped on a 1 ohm nominal load with a weak electrical system. I have done it. Do I reccomend it, no. I gained almost 4db when using a battery bank and h/o alt (powered off of one of my friends rigs for testing). At comps I was sitting a 12.2 v static, It took less than 8 seconds to drop into the tens, and this is with the gains turned down quite a bit.

Good luck and I hope things work out for you.

Hmm, very interesting. I think I've got it planned out now. A D2 BTL running off of a 1500d, and maybe another later. Just waiting on the cash. :)
