SSD or Q series for my application

Recommended Posts

Hello all

Long story short. My friend told me to check out FI Audio. I surfed through the FI forums for days and have concluded that the SSD or Q line sub woofers will do everything I need. There are several extra options for each series. I ask you experts, what do you think is best for my application. Ohm load on the amps and cuft of the box are limiting factors.

Amps: Two RF 500m's (if you are not familiar with the watts RMS or ohm configurations of these amps ask...I will explain them)

Ohms limitations: min 2ohm mono load per amp or min 4ohm load in a bridge mono configuration using both amps.

Box Space Ideal limit: 4cuft total or less

Open options: speaker size, sealed or ported box

With that said, it is a daily use system with weekends at car audio shows competing in LSQ events. I prefer new rock, classic rock and top 40 music.

My only worries are playing the stereo a lot at high volumes for extended periods of time. (heat buildup of the voice coils in the sealed box??)

I think two SSD1ohmDVC 12's with the copper coils would be perfect in sealed box's. One 500m pushing each 12"SSD @ 2ohm.

Or should I jump up to the 12" Q's?

I could do a 4.5cuft box with a little more planning. Placement of 4 amps and woofers/box in a Grand Am get complicated when trying to fit in a large box.

Thanks in advance,

The Q would be perfect for you.

Very musical, good power handling, does very well in sealed enclosures.

iirc , that model amp only pushes 250 @ 4 ohm and 500 @ 2 ohm. im not POSITIVE but im 97% sure it does.

that being said , that lower power would probably be better suited for the SSD. or you should run one on each coil of a Q...

correct RF rated it @ 500watts at 12.6v ....It was benched @544 watts 12.6v into a 2ohm load.

Considering your goals have you considered selling your amps and buying a mono sub amp?

The 500m is a mono amp.

I think I may get the Q's and build a sealed box.
