Speaker Selection help... I'm a n00b.

Recommended Posts

Looking at going active for the first time.

Will be using a 9887 as my source

Probably a kx/sx 800.4, or orion 8004, etc.

I'll be mounting the woofers in my doors, not quite sure where i'll be putting the tweets.

This will be in a 99 Tahoe.

I would like something that i can crank fairly loud when i'm in the mood. But i dont want anything harsh. I'm not completely sure what i want yet... I'm really hoping you guys can point me in the right direction.

I'm not opposed to buying used either.

The main things that are set in stone are the HU, and the higher volume requirement.

EDIT: I will run whatever mids will fit without cutting.

I don't have any opinions on car equipment... But I'm down to help with the install/fabrication work. :)

Stay the hell away from my vehicle.

budget?

size of drivers you can fit?

Um... budget is probably 4-500 dollars for speaks and tweets. I'd be willing to go higher if need be.

No clue what will fit to be honest.

BTW, i appreciate that a lot Ryan.

I thought you need more than one amp to go active? (im n00b too)

nah, you only need 1 4 channel for a 2-way or 1 6 channel for a 3-way active front stage :)

I don't know, but it is this body style:

Bummer in comparison for mounting options. Pretty much get to cut your door card, but it isn't a big deal.

You still need to address the budget and your design goals/preferences.

What do you mean by design goals/preferences?

And my budget is 4-500

So far i'm liking the Seas W18NX for the woofers, and Scan 6100's for the tweets.

Everyone on here knows that I will praise the W18nx's, pretty much my favorite 7" driver by far. Matching a tweet with them is easy, but knowing the mounting locations and processing capabilities would help. As for preferences, it is rather subjective as to what you expect out of a system. Things like music preferences, response preferences and so on would help narrow things down.
