Ported Enclosure - q10 or ssd10

Recommended Posts

Got a customer that is considering going with either a q10 or ssd 10.

Customer mainly listens to rock, metal and other types of music along those lines.

If i stick with the 1.5 cu.ft. net spec and tune alittle higher around 35-37 hz, how will that sound.

Also, customer requirements is the sub has to be dual 2 ohm 1000 watts continous per what he stated.

The vehicle is a1998 single cab Dodge Truck and the enclosure is replacing the center console with the both the sub and port firing back at the cab rear wall. Space from baffle to cab rear wall 6-8 inches.

Tuning is a bit high for those genres, unless he has lead ears and couldn't tell the difference...

Power recommendation places it squarely in the Q range, I'd go either sealed or tuned lower. A single cab doesn't have a ton of airspace to pressurize in the first place, I doubt the lost output would be noticed.

I'd go with a single 12 Q, and tune to 30-32Hz. Well, really, I'd go tuned to 28Hz, but most people don't have the same preferences.

What is this customer using for his front end?

Well, the customer doesn't have the space for a q12 for where the enclosure is going since were working with 16 w x 12.5 h x 23.5 d and the tuning, yeah, lower would suit better for the music, I was thinking higher because rock doesn't have hardly any low frequencys to it.

But, hey, that's why I asked the questions, better to be set straight then be ignorant not learn.

BTW, my gut told me " go with Q " and the customer decided he wants to use the Q10.

Thanks, as always, very helpful folks here.

Oh, forgot, customer didn't say what's up front.
