BL or Q 10" subs

Recommended Posts

Right now I am planning on running 3 10" BL or Q's in a ported enclosure at about 3.2cuft or so after displacement and such, ran off a Sundown 3000. I am not entirely sure which to use, BL's or Q's and would like to know the major differences between the two in order to help my decision. Thanks

Is it correct in my assumptions that the BLs would be more SPL oriented. Also, what would be the best amp to push 3 BLs with?

yes, the BL is more SPL oriented.

there are many amps, what is your electrical like?

If you are getting BLs, why not go with 2 12s instead of 3 10s?

The BL is the step in between the Q and BTL as far as power handling and is more SPL oriented. Everyone seems to be happy with the SQ of the BL so far. Unless you are a real sound quality wh0re, the BL might suit you better.

If you REALLY want to go with 3 10s and a Sundown SAZ-3000d, I think a Q would be a better match for power.

I dont have room for 2 12's, wish i did. The min space req is 1.8cu ft i read, whereas the 10's only need .5cuft. So, I figured I would go with 3 10's at about .75cuft each. Electrical wise, everything is good to go, big 3 will be done, new alt, new battery, and at least 1 additional battery, probably kinetik.

well you have to decide whether you'd want to run them at 1 and 1/3 ohm or 2/3 ohm. if you got the saz3000 you'd be giving each BL a little more than 1kw at 2/3 ohm and a little less than 1kw at 1 1/3 ohm. Of course 1 1/3 ohm is a much safer load.

i'd go with the 1 1/3, should be more than loud enough for you. just e-mail one of the fi people when you order the sub and they may be able to change a few things to make it better suit your application. they may even be able to make the Qs better suited to small enclosures (won't be any huge changes though).

I agree with Matt, the 3000D will need a serious electrical system behind it.

Right now electrical is lookin good. I will be doing 0awg runs, looks like a kinetik2400 bat, optima yellowtop instead of the norm battery, and the biggest alt i can get from excessive amperage for my vehicle.

I am assuming that the loads you listed are from the 1ohm sub? Yeah, I would much rather go the safer route, so I will def go with that setup. Would it be better in the long run to go with a slightly larger amp to give them at least the RMS rating?

Lastly, will the BLs still work for my setup or would i def. have to go with q's.

that should be a healthy charging system. But i can tell you the strapped 1500s drew a crapton of power too, so i'm sure the 3000 will too.

btw i may have missed it but what vehicle is this going in?

This little Charger RT a friend just picked up. If I need to pull a little more power, I can get a RF4000 for a decent price...would that be better?

I haven't heard the BLs, but even 3 10" Q's off a 3000d should be louder than you'll ever need(so BLs should be even louder). Is the trunk that small in the charger or does he just not want to use much of it?

It is pretty big trunk, he is just scared if he ever blows a tire if we have to work his butt off to get the spare tire.

That and he has a child on the way so he wants to save a little room for that. The subs are gonna be a little congrats gift from me, so i dont wanna screw his new car up, lol.

three 10" BL's will be just fine for him, definitely louder than you'd want with a baby in the car :-D

cool cool.....do you think it would be better running the RF4000 instead of the Sundown 3000. THat will add just a hair more power, or will that not even be noticable really?

probably not noticeable...if he's not going to compete i definitely wouldn't worry about it

edit: just looked at the rf website, if you can pick up a 4000 for the same price as the 3000 sundown, i'd probably go for that, seems like a steal of a deal.

ahhhh, one last question. Do you know roughly how to make a ported box with 3 subs. Would I put the port on top of the subs or below....facing the back of the car?

my love for symmetry would force me to do three subs with the ports on the same face, either two or four aeroports.

O*O*O -- where O is a sub and * is an aeroport

or

O:O:O where O is a sub and : is an aeroport on top and bottom....

hmmmm, never used aeroports before. how exactly do they work in the design? I really like the idea of aeroports, not to mention the look of them.

Guys, I have one BL 10" with no options on it, powered from a Kicker Kx2500.1 at 4 ohms, this thing is L O U D and it sounds good as well.

I am SURE 3 BL 10's will be VERY loud!
