Finaly made my custom sono tube!

Recommended Posts

Alrighty soo I've been wanting to do my own custom install for a while now. I wanted to acheive a more compact design- one that didnt take up much trunk space, was easy to remove if needed and that was still loud enough and cool looking to not only make me happy, but impress my friends too.

Thus came the idea of the sono tube! With the design concept settled, I started looking for the perfect sub to make all the magic happen. I wanted something beefy, but in a 10". After some research, I ended up going with tcsounds oem tc10 and their matchin passive radiator (which might I add is one sexy little thing!!).

The first two pictures are what my sub looks like from the factory pics, and the others are of my tube. Construction on my tube is finished, but the rack I made still isnt glued, and the rest of the install is still in creative thought...

Soo far what I'm thining of doing is sliding the tube as far over to the right sideas I can. I'm going to mount the "unfinished" rack you see in the picture to the plywood floor. The tube is going to be removeable soo I need to try and come up with some sort of claspe system to hold my tube in place on the rack (thats one thing I need ideas on..) Then what I was thinking to do was mount my amp and cap below the floorboard, with plexyglass top, flush to the floor itself...

If any of you have any ideas/comments on what I've come up with so far, please feel free to help! Thanks! fing05.gif

is it tunable ??? iv seen passive radiators that can be set to different freq: i think it was Boston Accoustics ???

yes, PRs are tunable

what kind of PR is it? i know that Audiopulse (TC Sounds) just came out with some tunable Passive Radiators

You tune by moving the radiator closer or farther away from the woofer iirc.

I thought you tuned the PR's by moving some kind of bolt on it up or or down or increasing or decreasing the weight of the bolt..

I dunno somebody shed some light on this...

Also it would be nice if other companies took into consideration of using PR's....

Would be a alternative method of porting your enclosure without having to worry about the space a typical port takes up whether its slot or aero.

Ohh yes I definately will. Its all just kinda ghetto back there for the time being but thats just because I couldnt wait till the whole install was complete to listen to my handy work haha. When its all done, all the wires will be hidden.

Yup... thats it. My passive is tcsounds like my sub. It has the same cone as my sub so they match :D . On the passive, theres a center plastic bolt that you add washers on to tune it. Techs from tcsounds (or I guess audiopulse now..) said without any weight they are tuned like maybe 30-35htz.... soo all I have on my passive is just the big nut it comes with.

Soo far its sounding REAL nice! I cant really get techical with the terminolgy... but pretty much I'm getting the best of both worlds of ported and sealed. Like it sounds sealed, but hits like its ported without any sort of portnoise. The bass is very clean sounding and crisp, but gets pretty damn low! It sounds great for anything from rap, to rock, to jazz to country. I'm VERY happy with how it sounds! And from what I understand, the amp I'm using is only pushing out like 750 watts... there are other people who are pushing 1500 to their tc10s with no problem... soo it can only get better!

I can try and do somethin video wise... but I will have to use a different computer because I cant hook my camcorder to mine. Do any of you guys have any creative ideas on how I can do a "strap system" for my tube?? This is the last puzzle I need to work out before I start to work on my instal. Any ideas on what I can do?

im a dealer for boston and tc sounds. Borth PRs are tuned differently. The boston design can be tuned without removing the sub (the dust cap unscrews and there are weights that can be added in and out of the pole piece they rest on) i havent got a chance to do an install with them yet but I would love to mess around with them soon

Soo today I finaly got some time to mess around in my trunk to see what all I could start on. I took my tube out and the stockfloor board and quickly realized my idea wasn't going to work. For some reason I thought there was going to be alot more room in between the wheel and where the floor is going to be so I could do my floor amp rack and keep my spair... but once I got in there and looked at it again there was barely any room at all. A little disapointing, but I played around with different placements of the tube and think I finaly figured out something different that gives me room in my trunk, allows me to access my spair and gives me a place to put my amp.

Where the tube is now, I have both the sub and passive cornerloading. You cant see the cone of my sub very well in this position... but I figure ah well it sounds best like this. For my amp I'm going to see if I can fabricate some sort of vertical rack for it... probably right where it's at in the pic. I will have everything mounted to a new floorboard, and I might even rig up a trap door to get to my spair.

Heres some pics of my arrangement...

Again, this is all in creative thought still... I want the setup to look nice, yet still be lowkey and stock looking. Any ideas/comments are always welcome!

i like this setup. different from all others, and should be easy enough to implement. an idea i might just steal, lol, for my hooptie build (though it'll be a mach5 12 and a kicker kx 400.1)

i would take yoru original rack idea for the tube, make it beefier and permantly attach teh tube to it. it would be easier to make the rack/ tube combo removable and slick looking compared to jsut the tube, unless you could have some billet clamps turned out.

this is a great install. kudo's for being different!

and people thought sono tubes were just for output. lol...

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

Hey thanks much! For a while I was almost thinking I wasted time and money on this tube for it to not even work how I originally wanted, but that definately makes it worth while. Yeah I'm thinking about making a different rack. The one I have is just made out of 1/2in MDF.. so its not too sturdy. I might make it out of different type of wood, or go with 3/4in mdf, then try and fiberglass around to make its lines flow nicely and give it that stock look.

As for something to strap it down, I bought two 4ft long strips of 1/8in thick, 1in wide strips of aluminum. I'm not sure how I'm going to use them in the design, but I figured they look nice, and are thick enough to add secuirty I'm lookin for. I kinda like your idea of attatching the tube to the rack perminately though... I could still make it strong, but at the same time lightweight with the fiberglass, then figure out a way to be able to lock that down, and make it removeable when I need. Its either that, or bolt that down, and figure some sort of system for my aluminum strips.
