Are these any good

Recommended Posts

Is there a nice dvd touchscreen that has active crossover capabilities.

This stuff is going in a 08 charger SRT.

I also have a '69 charger that I am debatin puttin a very small system in, but that comes later as well as hookin up my Dad's 07 sublime Charger Daytona. As you can see, we are charger fanatics. Soon as all the systems are installed, I will be workin on restorin a 72 charger that my grandfather picked up at a junkyard in NC.

any pics of the 69 and 72 would be awesome

the 07 and 08, honestly, I couldn't care less about 'em

Eh, kind of feel that way about the 07 and 08's, not nearly as nice, but i do need a daily driver. To scared to be honest, dont want to take a risk of driving everyday with the '69, to much could happen.

A heads up, I have been tossin around a lot in my head and think I may be tryin an IB setup in my car now, loud bass is fun and all, but I think I want a very loud overall car that will still sound great. So I will probably be makin a new thread soon asking about setting up an active crossover and such.

Do remember very loud and IB don't go hand in hand. You can get there but it requires a lot of cone area which is typically done with a lot of big drivers. It will be significantly quieter than other alignments; however, it would be the alignment that I would personally prefer but alas impossible in a pickup truck and there was no way I was going to alter the trunk in my E34 M5 that much to make it doable.

I should add one other thing, using the Alpine H701 is FAR superior to any little off board crossover unless of course you look at offboard proc's in the same price range, but if you do that then you have a separate h/u like thing to control it you need to put up front. An H701 combo would be super sweet.

ahh, sad, your inspiration pic didn't post for some reason. I was checkin out the H701 late last night, and considering I really want a Kenwood touchscreen, that price is workable for the H701. I will just hold off an extra month before getting new rims. Also, is midbass pretty much only really good for IB setups? What I mean is, I have 2 12's ported in another vehicle with just 2-way 6x8's running up front. I am thinkin of swappin these out for a simple comp set, but would adding midbass instead of just mids make this sound better? If i confusing midbass and mids and they are really the same thing, sorry.

That aside, I saw an odd install and have a quick question about. This guy installed 2 subs, 12s or 15s, where the rear panel usually sits. But instead of just having them hang there, it is build into something like a 3cuft enclosure. Is this basically a sealed setup or would it fall into a different category, just looked weird. He plexiglassed it in the trunk and all you could see are two huge magnets hanging down, lol.

Edit: I downloaded the pic and re-hosted it:

As for your IB question, personally I would prefer my subs that way but that doesn't mean you will. As for the mid/midbass thing they aren't always the same. In a 3 way it would be two separate drivers where in general the midbass would work well IB, but regularly the mid is better in some sort of enclosure even if it is an aperiodic one.

And yes, a simple comp set should sound significantly better than the 6x8's. As for the odd install, I am not I understand but if they are in a sealed box they are sealed.

lol, says page in Forbidden. As for the odd install, yeah, just a sealed enclosure with subs going up into the car itself, and the rest of the box is in the trunk. Looks odd. That aside, I decided to def. go active. I was reading some about it in an older Car Audio & electronics mag and think I can figure it out once it is all installed and going.

That isn't so odd, in fact I like the idea. Acidburn from here has a mount like that in his trunk.

I think you should be able to see the inspiration now.

Well, it hit me today. I am droppin the original idea of doin 2 10" BLs in my setup and playin with my girls....all this talk just made me want to do it in my car, so she is gonna have to hold off.

Sub location: The trunk is obviously the best place to do this.

Rear Speakers: How do I set these up, am I just gonna have a simple comp set in the back? 2 or 3-way?

Front: Obviously I am gonna need midbass, midrange, and highs up here.

Due you have any preferences as to each of the 3 things I am gonna need. I also need to start coming up with a shopping list of items to buy....keeping in mind I am gonna run a Kenwood DVD touchscreen HU.

I will be installing extra bat and cap in with the normal battery in the spare tire well, amps will go on top in a hingeable plateform so I can keep my spare tire and have easy access to it.

Slow down.

You do not need a cap, you probably don't need an extra battery, and you surely don't need rear speakers.

As for the fronts, a 3 way as a first active implementation is not something I would recommend. Stick with a 2 way first and then decide if you want to up the ante. It takes a lot more tuning experience to make a 3 way sound good. If you do go 3 way I would highly, highly recommend that you switch to the Alpine and do an H701 combo otherwise it will probably end up sounding worse than just buying a set of components.

Yep, the sealed boxes are bolted to the rear deck with the subs peaking through

And I've been using my '67 Camaro as a daily driver, but it has a $300 paint job on it so I don't really care about rock chips and things like that.

I would say it the other way around, it would seem very odd to me to have rear speakers. Most people have a confused idea of a car stereo since manufacturers have been putting larger drivers in the rear for years. The only reason is that it is cheap to put something larger in the rear parcel shelf. Then the normal Joe buys a car and fades it to the back since those are "better" speakers and starts to like his music all backwards.

Using just 2 speakers for home theater would you ever setup your TV so that it is in front of you and the speakers are behind you? That is what rear speakers sound like in a car.

Wow, I have never even thought to have looked at it that way. My eyes are slowly opening to SQ setups more and more. Oh, I went and checked out your build acidburn, looked pretty cool. did you ever build a shelf to put around the subs to give it a "nicer" look? I def. do like that also, I bet it saves a ton of room and sounds great.

I thought about what you said...you are probably right, being my first SQ setup it is probably to much to jump into a 3 way active setup. So I will start smaller and learn about 2-ways and learn, then build up and learn more.

Thanks, but no I haven't made a cover panel for the rear deck yet

Depending how everything goes and if I lose the patience with an IB (hard to do i imaine), I may try to do something similar to your setup. But then again, I have two cars that need systems at the moment, could try both setups, one in each vehicle. How does that setup sound acidburn? I imagine good. I googled a bunch of pics of setups like yours and they all look great. The coolest one had more work than i wanna do, but they had the subs going up through the rear panel and it actually ported into the trunk. But they had a bunch of other work to it like neons and plexiglass, more complications than I can handle, lol.
