ok to combine 1 bl with extreme leads and one without?

Recommended Posts

i came up on a deal. both subs are 15" BL's, both have cooling, flatwind, and the daily option. 1 however has extreme leads, and the other has regular leads.

will this cause problems between the drivers or is it ok to run them together?

i know the extremem leads can cause slapping, but is that the only downfall?

No...the tinsels go all the way through the cone and are buried under glue next to the coil/neck joint...

You can't trim them down....there's actually strands of wire that goes through the outside layer

Extreme Lead: ONLY choose this option if you plan to use the woofer for SPL ONLY applications. This option tends to yield really bad tinsel slap and rubs holes in the spiders (especially on the 10’s and 12’s) it is not intended on using in a daily driving scenario.

well thats the description. now i know sometimes it varies with driver size (as seen on the spider example in the quote). how likely is the tinsel slap to occur with the 15" driver off about 1450W rms? is it a guaranteed effect?

i bought the driver and by the time i got in contact with the original owner (who sold it to the guy i bought it from, and didnt know about the extreme leads) on what the options were on the sub, it was too late, and THEN i was told it had the extreme leads.

basically just wondering if there is a way to minimize this. you guys are a big help, i apprecaite it!

Only way to minimize it is to not have them :) . All i can tell you to do is hook it up and listen, if you don't hear it then your good to go.

Thanks

I glued a piece of cut-out sweat pants to the spider on my Brahma 15 years ago... played the sub for a year and it stayed on there, FYI. This quietened down the spider lead slap of that sub, could also help prevent wearing holes in your spider.

I'm sure that technically it's not "good" for linearity, but I never heard any difference except no slapping sound :)
