Amp problems

Recommended Posts

I am having some problems with my amps cutting off. They aren't actually cutting off i guess(the green power light stays on)but the speakers or sub will cut off(depending on which amp cuts off) and when they come back on i can hear the amp click back on(same sound they make when i first start up my truck) so, i guess the amps might be cutting itself off for some reason maybe? they arent going into protect mode.

It happens only when the volume was up a little. Before i installed my HC-800 they would cut off when the volume was around 18-20 of 35. Now that i installed the HC-800 i can turn it up to 21.

Im running a kicker ZX250.2 for the door speakers and a ZX1000.1 for my TC-1000( 4ohm DVC wired parallel.. so its 2 ohms.)

When the ZX250.2 shuts off just the door speakers stop playing but the sub keeps playing. and sometimes both of them will shut off and the sub will hit a couple times then they will come back one once i turn the volume down for a couple sec.

What do you guys think the problem could be?

Sounds like under-voltage protection if adding electrical upgrades made it better.

What size alternator do you have? Power wire size? Upgraded big-three wires under the hood?

Until you fix it, I wouldn't really listen to the system either. Definitely sounds like a wiring issue.

I am using the stock 105amp alt and i have upgraded my ground wires under the hood but i didn't upgrade the battery + to alternator wire because the alternator is really hard to get to in my truck.. and im only running 4gauge power wire right now(4guage ground under the hood. 1/0 ground for the 2nd battery). i have the 1/0 power wire i just cant run it myself.. i gotta get to a stereo shop to have that done...... i guess the small wire is my problem.

I knew i needed the bigger wire... but i wasnt sure if that was the only problem or not. Thanks for the help!

My lights dont dim at all even with the stereo up but my volts are only around 13.9-.8. do you guys think i need a HO alt right away or would it be ok to run the stock one untill it dies?

Did you run the 4awg wire your self? If so, what's the hold up on not running the 1/0awg? its just thicker wire.

No, i didn't run the 4 gauge myself. i know where its ran but im not good at running wires. And i don't know if im gonna be able to run the wire inside the cab of my truck or under it. I could run it myself if i could run it in the frame.... but there are like divider things in the frame of my truck about ever foot or so.

So, i got my 1/0 wire ran but that didn't solve the problem. the problem was a blown tweeter was making my amp go into protect mode.... i just never noticed it going into protect mode untill today because i usually turn my volume down real quick when it was shutting off before the light actually went red. And the stereo shop i got my speakers from replaced the speaker under warranty for $15. So the stereo is sounding great now except for the TC-1000... i think the 1000watts its getting is slowly killing it.
