maw12 powerandbox

I measure my trunk...w/ the spare in it

Alot tighter than i expected

So 2 12s will fit the bill

I was thinking 2 maw12's in a 4 cubic ft. box tuned to 30hz or 28hz

then give them bout 400-500 watts a piece...that sound good?

Im going w/ the MAW now instead of the IXL

b/c i dont have as much trunk space as i thought(with the spare tire in the trunk)

Plan

4 cu ft. tuned to 28hz

48 sq in. of port area(16 x 3)

800 watts at 1 ohm(400 x 2 at 1 ohm)

Sound good?

I like your tuning frequency. I assume the 4cuft is net? If so, it is plenty if it is gross you need to find some more space.

He's referring to the volume of space taken up by the driver, port and bracing - hence 'net volume'. Gross volume is simply that - gross volume of the box without all those factors included.

Best,

Mark

so if i was to go...like about 4.5-4.3 net...then after the bracing and port...id be at about 4 cu ft. gross which is what i want correct?

how is the low end on these budget monsters?

I think you have it backwards, but yea, you get the idea.

As for how they sound, well hopefully you will find out soon enough!

I'm happy with mine.

You're half right - 4.3 to 4.5 cubes would be considered the 'gross' volume; after adding the bracing, driver and port the volume left is considered as 'net' volume.

With that configuration you should not have an issue reaching into the 20's.

Gonna need to go bigger to hit your target. 28Hz and a 3x16" vent is going to be near 38" long which is more than a cubic foot alone. Once you add bracing and the drivers I think your initial target has to be more like 5.5cuft, but really you need to account for it all in the planning and be exact.

thanks...ill look into it...im running into problems with box sizes...i measured my trunk and its not very big....unless i take the spare tire out...should i? b/c i change my mind everyday i figured a single 12 setup would give me ample SPL....but good SQ as well so i narrowed it down to the SSA ICON 12 and the FI Q 12...and the ixl12 when it comes out....

my trunk is 50 inches wide on the lid... but only 20inches high( from floor to top), also it has lots of dips and bumps that rise out of it b/c of how the car is built. Also the spare tire is right in the middle of the trunk...so i moved it to the side to get some more room. Probably the deepest i could have a box and still fit my spare is bout 22 inches deep...so i ll get the pics and show you guys what im talking bout

so hows that ixl 12 coming along and when can we expect it?
