great drivers from mids/highs

Recommended Posts

This is going to go in a 07 or 08 dodge charger cause i have to ditch my beloved truck. So far i plan i running 3 10" Q's in the trunk in a IB setup. That is about as far as I have gotten cause I have no experience at all when it comes to setting up speakers for mids and highs. Before I would just throw 6x8's in and go, want to do it right this time. Music wise, I listen to, literally, everything. I really enjoy listening to heavy metal, techno, and rap probably the most though. I just want some really good clean sounding speakers cause my current setup, everything seems muddy to me, almost distorted. Back to point, can someone point me in the direction of where to start. Like crossovers, equalizers, and most importantly, some very good drivers for mids and highs. At the moment, I plan on using 8" mid bass drivers, but am open to so much more if you throw it out there for me to check out......

THANKS

Biggest thing that's going to limit you is budget...how much are you looking to spend on midbasses and tweeters?

Right now, I had set aside around $600 to $700 per set of components. Running 2 sets was the initial idea. I will push probably about $1500 to $2000 for midbass and components for the entire setup. Not including amps.

Why two sets?

$2000 is a heck of a budget if you did the normal thing and only ran one set...

Components = midbasses + tweeters + possibly midranges

Well, originally it was gonna be two sets of RE XXX comps, like 650 or so a set. I am kinda thinking of getting about 4 sets and doin some nice fabrication work on the doors and such now. Saw an article in a magazine with a car that did it, looked real nice.

Whhhhhhhhhy :(

Do that and your chances of having a coherent soundstage basically go out the window.

mmmmmmm, yeah. You are right. Was gonna jump into it without thinkin how the soundstage is supposed to be setup. So I guess I set a very high budget for my mids and highs, gives me a buffer.

with that kind of budget you should really consider geting a processer and running 3way active. get like an alpine 701 or something similar

Gives you a ton of EQ ability, time alignment, all that fun stuff.

One nice thing about Chargers is the door cutout is HUGE. You could easily go 8-9" in the factory location, but then you either have to find a tweeter that will play down low enough, or go 3 way...

Might want to do some searching on diyma for proven 2-3 way combos and also search the archives here.

I have a headache thinking about it. Why would you run MBQ's active in the first place??
