how much damplifier to get?

Recommended Posts

I have a 15.5 cu ft trunk supposedly.... thats Manufacter specs of my 1996 Taurus. How many Sq Ft of damplifier should I get to cover the Walls, Lid, and Floor completely? How ever much it takes will dictate which Damp I get. if 20 sq ft will do it I AM A get Damp Pro but if a little more than that is needed Im going to get 40 sq ft of regular Damplifier and just add a second layer with whatever I got left.

Depends on you, but I don't think 20 is anywhere near enough.

i just measured the walls and the lid and came up with about 38.75 sq ft. will regular damplifer make a significant change in the bass? Also in the Trunk rattling.

Unless you're chasing numbers, there's a simple rule with sound deadening.

Get as much as you can afford.

And then a little more.

I'm not sure what you mean by "a significant change in the bass". It will reduce energy lost through panel flex and resonance and will clean up the sound by reducing the harmonics you hear from the resonance It will also reduce the energy available to excite rattles, but it is always better to find the source of your rattles and treat them before apply sound deadener. Silicone caulk, foam tape, expanding foam and scraps of closed cell foam are great for this. Tighten everything that can be tightened and isolate the rest.

If you are going to buy just enough to cover every square inch in a single layer, don't apply it that way. That's probably a decent quantity, but apply it in multiple layers toward the centers of panels and leave the edges alone. The closer you get to a bend or reinforcement, the less you need to use. Don't just apply it randomly. Tap on the panels and treat the areas that are the most resonant.

Well, I just bought 40 sq ft of regular Damp..... I should get it in a few days..... When I get it I will start putting it in the middle of the trunk lid because thats where it rattles horribly. then I guess I will put it in certain spots here and there wherever I hear any panel resonance. Are there any prep steps I need to do b4 applying?
