2 x Fi Q 18's Box Design need opinions

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I got a 93 Grand Caravan and two Fi Q 18's With BP packages commin hopefully next week

Im finalizing some ideas on a box and wanted some input. It gonna be subs firing up port along bottom out back.

Im aiming for S.Q.L, i figure it will be loud regardless I'm not trying to put up huge numbers i want it to be very deep and clear thats all :)

So im thinking

Height = 26.5"

Width = 47"

Depth = 39"

All in 3/4"MDF / im doubling the top sheet where the woofers are going.

According to the RE Box calculator which i dont know how accurate it is it tells me

Internal Displacement = 16.068 CuFt Before Sub (0.24CuFt x 2),minor Bracing( maybe .4CuFt) and After Port Displacement.

Port Width = 6.5"

Port Area = 295.75

Port Length = 50.25"

Tuning = 27.73Hz

They will be runnin off a Directed d2500.1 Viper Amp at 2Ohms 2500Watts RMS.

( I already have an iraggi 160amp alternator and optima red top under the hood, all 1/0awg wires)

Any suggestions on a second battery ?

Thanks Guys..

hey sounds good, but personaly i think the tuning is kinda low,(i like 30-34, but prefer 32hz) but other that i think it sounds great,u will absoulty love the subs, good amp, and for extra batts, i would see how ur lights do, if they dim then yes, i would switch the red to a yellow top for under the hood, and put mabe 2 red tops in the back

good luck man

and put sum vids and pics up

Being tuned that low is fine. LOTS of port area... and from two different programs, Im getting different port lengths for the 16 cuft enclosure than what you have. Im getting lengths closer to 43" than 50".

Shrinking the port down further to 5 X 45.5 will shorten the length and decrease the overall size of the enclosure as well (if thats of any concern). Being at 200 sqin of port for the pair of subs and 16 cuft is plenty.

If im making a typical vent "L" Shaped for example, does it actually have to be an "L" or can it be a straight cut .....

Example .... If my box was 39" deep and i wanted a port only 25" 's long is that fine or is there a rule of thumb or something..... basically does my port have to run the length of the box of can it stop half way wth no "L" shape ?

Any body have any box build pictures they can put up to show me what you think im trying to explain ?

And Scott ,, did the subs ship out yet :) :)

If not can you throw some stickers in there :P

Cant wait to hear them :)

Yes, if the box is 39 deep, it isnt an issue to have a 25" long port that terminates down the 39" side (without having an L shape). Basically I like to keep at least twice the port width from the end of the box. If you have a 5" X 25" port, Id limit it to 29" long before it starts to act non-linear with respect to the box building programs dimensions. You can continue on, but most simple enclosure programs will not model correct beyond that.

Subs went out several days ago (kits a couple of days later)... I think they are 38lbs ship weight (I ship as the same weight if its BP or not, although it adds about 1/2 lb of aluminum).

Thanks,

Scott
