Replacing all speakers in a 68 Camaro - need advice

Recommended Posts

Hey there, I posted a topic earlier about my 68 Camaro: http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...showtopic=10357

I decided to build a new sub box, ported, to try and up my bass. Next I want to replace my current speakers, they aren't the best.

I am trying to keep my budget around $600-700. I went to the local Car Phonics and they suggested this setup, and quoted me $692 (including install). However, I found the same speakers on ebay for under $300 (for both) and would be perfectly comfortable installing them myself.

Is this a good setup for my car? I would like to stick with JL preferably, and I cannot afford their ZR line. For $300, is this a good deal?

Thanks again,

Jeff

You should strongly consider just forgetting about the 6x9's in the rear. Use the money that you were going to spend on them for the ZR components.

Also, why the strong attachement to JL? They do have great products, but the also are a little spendy. You could get something of the same quality and perhaps better for a lot less.

So you are saying to go with just 2-speakers for the entire car? I've seen/read of this done before, but I don't necessarily know how it sounds to have just two.

Everything else I have is JL -- amps, subs, and (possibly) soon speakers. So I was just trying to stay in the family.

Tell me.. when someone is talking to you or when you're at a concert; do you stand with your back to them so the sound comes from behind you?

No.

You stand facing the source. The same principle applies in car audio.

Also.. quite honestly. Brand loyalty is really freaking gay. Who cares what you have. Get what sounds good, performs well and utilizes pricing you can afford.

edit:

also... running components off of the HU is just silly. Hopefully you have an amp for them.

x2 on ditching the rears

and

x2 on a big, beefy amped front stage

Hmm, I will look into some higher quality front components then. Do you suggest any, if you are not a JL fan?

It isn't that he is bashing JL really, just what you get for the money. They make good stuff it is just really expensive and therefore it is logical to look for something else. A really good recommendation would be to go and listen to all of the options and then tell us what you liked and what you didn't. Otherwise recommednations end up being pretty subjective by the person recommending instead of blending that with what we think you like.
