RL-i8 side-firing enclosure

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about replicating the sub enclosure created by Jmelan over at DIY mobile audio for my 2002 4Runner. Does anyone foresee any difficulties or performance issues for the RL-i8 with this type of enclosure in a side-firing alignment? I wonder if a larger driver (Fi Q 10/12, ICON 10/12, RL-i10) wouldn't be in my best interests.

Only thing I forsee as a problem is the fact that the RL-i is probably a lot deeper than the infinity driver he used. You may have to come out into the cargo area quite a ways to accomodate it.

That's not an Infinity driver, it is a DIYMA 12.

I don't see any problem with it. You may be looking at a lower output vs. your TL enclosure, but you might even be able to port the Rl-i in that space.

Wow, I wouldn't even begin know how to port a custom fiberglass enclosure. Is there a safe way to calculate the port on an irregular enclosure shape?

Thanks,

-J.

you could fill the encloser with Styrofoam beads and then empty the encloser and measure the volume of the beads
