Need some help picking a system

Recommended Posts

I have never had any fi subs before. I had some jl audio subs. I am trying to build a system for my truck. I will try to be as detailed as I can for what I'm looking for. I have a 2006 Trailblazer SS and right now my sound setup is the stock bose system. I still have the factory 6 disc head unit. I'm very interested in the 15" BTL subs. From what I've been reading from the posts on here I may be good with just one 15" sub. I have always been used to having two subs. I want to be able to have a wide range of levels as far as sound. I mostly listen to rap, rock, and r&b. I want the sub or subs to be capable of hitting extremly deep levels. I wouldn't even mind trying to enter into a competition if they hit low enough. I need to know from everyones experience would you reccomend 2 15" subs or is one enough with the right box? What amp should I use? I'm hoping not to spend any more than $500 on the amp if possible. Do I NEED a alternator and a aftermarket HU? Do I need a battery as well? I know I am probably asking for any expensive setup. But I am trying to go the safest route for my pockets and get the best bang for my bucks. From what I've read on different posts I know you guys have a lot to offer so thanks in advance.

Electrical system wise, for the power you're saying you want, you will most likely benefit from upgrading your factory battery and adding a h/o alternator- as you step closer to 2000 watts I would consider adding more batteries.

Your budget of 500 will limit what kind of amp you can get, especially if you want to power a btl. I'd keep an eye out for something used. New I'd look for something around 800+, simply because it's hard to find 2500+ watt amps for cheap. It would be much more realistic to power a BL or even a Q, or a pair of ssds.

If you want 1 sub, why not get an 18" BL and give it a sundown 1500, if you want 15s I'd go for a pair of SSDs. Denim can get you a good price on the sundown amps if you want to PM him.

If you want 10hz range, a sealed 18" q would probably fit your needs very well. If you mean the 25hz+ range that most music has, I'd go for the ported BL. Or a pair of SSD 15s, again in the box that will best match your needs.

Setup will really determine the sound more than anything else.

If you are able find an amp that puts out 2500+ watts for 500, than yes a btl should do good, but you'll need 1/0 wire and a 2-300amp alternator and 2+ batteries. So, it's your call as to what will fit your needs the best.

Agreed with Tejcurrent.

Ill add to that as well....on a budget, and having some space to use, I would go for the pair of 15s. The pricing between the a pair of SSDs and BTl is fairly similar yet you will have more output for the same amp size with the pair of SSDs vs single BTL (up to the point where the SSDs tap out and the BTL will take more). But, to really get the BTL louder, you would have to have a fair amount more power, do more electrical upgrades, and really have to spend some $$$ to do it right. I think that the above amp, or something similar, an upgraded battery and power wires along with a pair of SSDs (since you like things low, look to the copper coils on the SSD as well) in a solid low tuned box will get you what you are looking for.

The upside of the single BTL is using half the space... the downside is the extra cost to really do the sub justics and your setup correctly.

Thanks,

Scott

Thanks for the responses so far. Its seems as if the 2 15's might be more my speed right now. I have a few questions though. Should I get them fully loaded with the options available in the pricing? Would it be better to go with the 15" Q? Would you guys recommend any hifonics amps or no? I really would like to power whatever subs I get to their full potential. I'm guessin I would want to hit over the 1500 watt range with no problem without having to do all the major electrical upgrades besides a yellow top battery.
