I kinda would like to know also.

I have a chance to pick an old 15" XXX up at a fairly good price

I understand that the are totally different but would like to know how they compare musically?

I know a guy that has two 15" XXX's and another that has a couple 12" Q's (just met). They are completely different in every imaginable way. IMHO, I can't stand the XXX's, think they sound like crap; but could be the install! The XXX should be compared to something such as the BTL. XXX is a SPL sub whereas the Q is much more SQ. Powerhandling of the two are also different. I am sure someone will post more info regarding everything.

Almost forgot, loved the guy with the Q's setup, sounded great!!!!!!!

I wouldn't call the XXX an SPL sub. More like a SQ sub that will get loud. It don't really like the higher notes for SPL, but is a low end monster.

Neither would I. Ntrain2k seemingly summed most peoples experiences with the older XXX up.

The old XXX was an XBl sub and was much more sterile in the bass department. It did just about the same sound inf it had 1 W or 1600W going to it. While this sounds like it should be a good thing (and to me it is) many people didnt like the sound. It just didnt start to punch like most people like. With other non linear motors you start to get a Bl/spec shift and a warmer punchier sound when pushed harder. People are used to this and seem to like it more in general... Id say 4 out of 5 or more do.

I have had a couple of people swap in the Q in place of the older XXXs and keep the Qs installed. I dont think it is a statement about the Q being better... just that it is about as capable overall and people like the sound a little better. Both love to drop deep, but the Q has less inductance and will play up higher as well.

Thanks,

Scott

I went from an XBl2 XXX12 to a Q12. There really isn't a major difference.

The XXX has a slightly better transient response and can handle more power.

Overall, the Q is a better driver. Cheaper, lighter and louder with the slightest SQ and power handling penalty. But you'll be extremely happy either way.

The beauty about the Q is that I can put 2 in a sealed box and it will weigh about the same as a single XXX.
