  1. I currently own a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier that I am currently building a subwoofer install in. My complete and current installs: New Kenwood KDC-BT378U radio with built-in speaker amp, All new door and deck speakers. (COMPLETE) Big 3 Kit, Mechman 270 AMP Alternator, (1) Sundown ZV6 12" 2-OHM 2500W Subwoofer (wired to 1 OHM), One run of 1/0 gauge wire complete with fuse and capacitor), Fiberglass Subwoofer Box(Not sure what size yet, any help on this would be greatly appreciated) Just wondering if all the above installs with be able to comfortably power a 3000 watt amplifier to run the subwoofer properly? I know Sundown Subwoofers are underrated, just not sure if I want to over-power by more than 500W, seems safer to me like that, unless I'm wrong? Never dealt with this much power before, max was 600 watts before this build. Any other install recommendations? Bigger battery because it is stock? Better springs for the added weight in the rear? Box will be fiberglass but the subwoofer alone weighs 95 pounds. Thanks in advance guys.

    Sundown zv5 15 on saz3500d

I just bought a zv5 15 thinking it was dual 2 ohm and it’s dual 1 ohm. I have a few questions. First, can it be recone to dual 2? Because I read some motors are only configured to function on the original impedance. Idk. And if I can’t get it recone, can I run that amp at .5 ohm unclipped on that zv5 and not overpower it? Should I run it at 2 ohms? I hope it can be reconed to dual 2. In need of help. Thank u.

    New build time!

  4. Hey guys, I'm new here but been messing around with audio in my cars on an amateur level for quite a while. I recently decided to do an amp/sub install on my newly acquired 2006 Infiniti M45. It has a factory 14 speaker BOSE system. As far as the audio upgrades I've added is as follows. -Sundown Audio SCV3000d amp -1 Sundown Audio X12 @ 1ohm in ported box to spec -0 gauge wiring ran to trunk to additional audio battery and capacitor -6 gauge wiring from amp to sub -LOC taped into the stock Bose sub inputs Problem is that the sub doesn't sound nearly as loud as it should although the sound it does produce is very clear. I went from 2 SA12's in my last car with a 1500 watt amp and was impressed so I decided to upgrade power and sub to the X12. I also noticed that the amp is clipping anytime I turn the bass boost over 1/3 on the remote dial which also has the clipping LED indicator. The gain on the amp is maybe in the 10 o'clock position and I'm really just wondering if it's maybe the signal from the Bose amp that is causing this and/or if there is a better location to tap into for the bass signal.

Sundown X v.2 12's built by Dave Leib

Hello everyone, long time no see. I am selling a pair of Dual 2-ohm (technically D1.7) 12" Sundown X v.2's built by Dave Leib a.k.a "Strongman Designs." Reason I am selling them is because I realized upon testing to see if my digital multi-meter was working correctly that one of the coils is reading higher on the one sub indicating that too much heat had been applied to it recently so rather than risking any further damage to it I am going to assume that I have too much power for these. Having said this in all honesty, let me make it perfectly clear here that both subs are still in perfect working order as we speak, even the one that is reading differently. Had I not thrown my multi-meter on it to test it in order to see if it was working properly (the multi-meter itself) I would have never known there was any difference or discrepancy between the two. However, because one of them is reading off now and I do not know what is to be expected out of it's performance long-term I will be letting these go for $500+ shipping (that includes both). Any further questions or concerns please feel free to text me at 440-915-2309 Phil

    smelly sundown normal or not

Ok so I am not new to car audio but I am somewhat new to high power car audio and I have a question. Current setup: 147db in an 06 eclipse 3x optima yellow tops 2x 1/0 along with a big three stock 110a alt,(soon to be 240a) Sundown zv.4 rev2 15" 1ohm (2000 rms) ts3.5k (5k uncertified) 5 cubicft box with dual 6" aero ports My question is this, I tuned my system with an oscilloscope, the voltage reached the max of my oscilloscope with ought any clipping that I could see, I do not remember the voltage but when multiplied by my clamp meter results I got around 1200 watts that sounded fine so I left it. The problem is that any time I play one of my slightly louder songs for more than maybe a minute I do get a very small and sudden smell of what I believe to be burning voice coil. when this happens it is not much louder than the song I used to tune the system and my car voltage is only dropped down to about 13.7. Even if I was clipping though, clipping at roughly 1500 watts shouldn't even happen with a system voltage of 13.7 let alone burn a voice coil of a sub that is known to be run on 3000+ right? I heard somebody once say that their sa-15 gets smelly when they play it but it just doesn't seem right. I just feel like I am missing something or maybe just don't have much experience with higher power CA.

    Sub size choice

Hey guys, I plan on building a system from scratch when I buy a new vehicle. Im planning on buying a Jeep Grand Cherokee and buying a BC5500d and I will have plenty of space in the rear of the SUV but I cant decide if I want to get 2 12"s sundown x-12s or an 18" SSA Evil. Those subs are just examples, Im not set on any one brand or sub. What do you guys think? 2 12"s or an 18" or something else possibly? Matt
  11. I've got some stuff from my hoard of car audio that I'm certain that I'm not going to be using anytime soon and I'm fairly certain that no one I know close to me is going to need it either. So instead of it sitting and going to waste I may as well sell it to someone who can and will use it and put the money to good use elsewhere. First up: A used Audison SR2 two channel amplifier. It has all the accessories it came with and looks as though it was very gently used. I wanted to keep it but it probably won't ever get used so out it goes to someone who can use it. All the original mounting screws and the screws for the plastic cover are poked into the styrofoam and no I haven't hooked it up while I've had it. $100 shipped $90 SHIPPED Second: A used Sundown Audio SA-15 sub with D2 coil configuration. I hooked it up to play with my DATS when I first got it, it's not been on an amp or in a box. It still feels tight and doesn't have any coil rub or discoloration to the coil at all. It was shipped to me in the original styrofoam but without the original box, only a bunch of cardboard panels that were taped together and that immediately fell apart when I opened it. I will find a proper box for it to ship in before I ship it out to whomever buys it. $125 + shipping (this thing is heavy!) $115 + SHIPPING (It's still heavy) Third: Here is a pair of BNIB Diamond Audio D3 10" Dual 2 ohm subwoofers. They're brand new, never hooked up, never mounted in an enclosure and only out of the boxes for inspection and pictures. These retailed for ~$140+ each so this should be a great price. $150 + shipping SOLD Fourth: This is a BNIB Blues Audio BA1-1000 monoblock subwoofer amp. It's rated at 500wrms @ 4 ohms and 1,000wrms @ 2 ohms. This hasn't been hooked up or out of the box for anything but pictures. It's a cheap little Chinese built amp but it does have some weight to it and I would imagine it's no worse than any other Chinese amp of similar build and ratings. $100 shipped $90 SHIPPED Last but not least: Another BNIB amplifier, the JBL GTO1004 4 channel amp. It's rated at 100wrms x 4 @ 4ohms, 150wrms x 4 @ 2 ohms and 300wrms x 2 bridged at 4 ohms. This amp hasn't been hooked up at all either and has only been out of the box for pictures. $140 shipped SOLD

    SA-10 Enclosuure Help

Hey everyone, First off I wanna apologize for changing my mind so much. My financial situation has changed, so my future setup ideas have too. Even though I have not followed through with other plans ya'll have helped me with, I have learned a lot for each comment or post I read. On to the enclosure idea. I will be getting a single SA-10 D2 as soon as my current setup sells. I will be running it off of a BRZ1200 @ 1 Ohm (for headroom). My goals are for it to be decently loud (I have had an E-12, hope to be comparable to that), and flat sounding for all music types... From dubstep to decaf to classic rock to country. It will be in my daily which is the trunk of a 2000 Honda Civic Sedan (DX EJ6, D16Y7 Auto). I am planning on building an enclosure that is 1.4 cubic feet, with a 17" long, 4" aeroport, tuned to 34.8 Hz. My questions are as follows: Is the box too large? I commonly see Jacob recommending 1-1.25 cubes for a ported SA-10. Should I keep the 4" aero? It gives 9" of port per cube (high end of the spectrum for an aero) Or go with a 3", or just go slot port... If I go slot, what kind of port area should I use? Lastly, is that a good tuning? I would like an F3 around 28Hz. Thank you for all your help, as always.

    Sundown X18 build

Hey everyone, Im starting a build on my 99 isusu trooper. My X18 dual 2 ohm sub came in today and i ordered a hifonics zeus 1800w rms amp a couple days ago for a temporary amp. Im planning on getting a sundown amp later on. Im going to start on my box when it gets a little warmer out. Im going to be posting pictures of the build over the next few months. To start off, heres my sub. Hope you guys enjoy

  18. Hey guys, so i'm at a stump with my electrical in my car. I have two sundown SA-15's in my Honda CRV being powered by a hifonics HFI 1500d. I would love to upgrade my amplifier and get about 2500 watts to the subs but my voltage is too low for that type of power. I have been searching for a compatible high output alternator with the CRV for a while now, but have had no luck. Also the alternator is located under the engine so I would have to pay a shop to go in there and install it. All lots of money i don't have to spend. Are there any other ways i can give my electrical system a boost to maintain that 13.8+ to power a higher wattage amplifier? I have already done the big 3 fyi and have a kinetic hc 1800 in the front. thanks

    Two sa 12s in sax-1500d,
  21. I have the MOJOs right now ran by a Hifonics Brutus 2100.d. Now i know thats not enough for them but in general with a custom box and either same amp or a saz-1500, could i get a little louder with the sundown SA-12s since ill actually be putting enough power to them? Also this would be in a 2000 ford explorer, so if anyone has witnessed a similar setup with 2 sa-12s in a explorer it would be great if you give feedback. thanks
  22. Tossing up a single 15'' Sundown Zv4 or two 12'' XCON's tuned for lows. I know that the Sundown is built for it but would it be able to offer me the same amount of throw that 24'' of cone area would from two 12's?

    A ported box

I have an 08 silverado crew cab, I just bought 4 sd-2 10" shallow mounts and I need to build a 4 cubic foot ported box. I took my backseat out for now so it doesn't have to be complicated, and I am powering them with a saz2500, and if you know anyone that can build a box so I can put the seat back in that would be great too.
  24. This topic is really for my new upcoming build which will be two Sundown Audio SA-12s on a Hifonics BRX 2400.1D sealed off from the trunk. The box is currently being built by Dave The Box Guy, it will have three different tunings with interchangeable ports (20Hz/28Hz/45Hz). For now, while I sit and wait, I am going to post my current set up just to show you all some of the work I have done so far. I don't have all the pictures since some things were done a little while ago such as, deadening, changing my door speakers, wiring etc. but I will eventually tear some things off and show you how I installed everything. Here it is.... Current build: Head unit: Kenwood KDC-X995 w/ iPad Mini Equalizer: Clarion EQS746 Mids/Highs: 4 Infinity Kappa 62.9I (wanted to keep stock look so they are in the stock location of the doors) Subwoofer: 1 15" Sundown Zv3 D2 3.3ft3 enclosure tuned to 33hz (Sub Up, Port to the side) Mids/Highs amp: Hifonics Zeus ZXi80.4 Subwoofer amp: Hifonics Brutus BRX 2400.1D Electrical: Stock 150A alternator, XS Power D6500, BIG 3 to come soon Deadener: Second Skin Damplifier ***The only thing that will change with the new build will be the sub stage which is listed in the first paragraph, everything will most likely stay the same... for now lol*** This isn't my actual car, but this is what it looks like completely stock on the outside.. Here are some pictures of my car after some cheap mods! Tint is %30 and hubcaps plasti-dipped! Tinting my tail lights soon! Don't have a pic before the de-badge so here is the after.. If you can tell I replaced the stock antenna with a "shorty" On to XS POWER, haven't done the BIG 3 yet but that is on the list of things to do.. Here is the stock battery under the hood. I already ran the 1/0 gauge wire through and plan on shortening the wire to the fuse soon as well. I will try and get pics of how I ran it later.. Look how small the stock battery is compared to the XS Power D6500!! Finally installed, it was a b**** to get into that small space.
