    rl-i8 sealed?

since most people i've seen are running this woofer in a ported setup, i was wondering how an rl-i8 would performed in a sealed box with about 450wrms running to it. also how big of a box would this need, if it were to go into a hatchback? thanks axel

    looking for a lightweight sub

That's exactly what my friend has in mind. He'll probably have his suspension corner weighted after he gets the sub to even things out as best he can.

    looking for a lightweight sub

so a friend of mine is looking to add a sub to his car, but he cares a great deal about weight (yes, contradictory, but to each his own). He's looking for a 10" driver that weighs less than 20lbs, preferably around 15lbs, that has awesome SQ and lets you slightly feel the bass. So far, he's looking at the eD 11Kv.2, Adire Shiva (having a hard to time to find this thing online), and the Seas Lotus SW250 (isn't sure if he wants to spend this much money, unless its 200% worth it). any other suggestions? Thanks in advance

    looking for a lightweight sub

i just remembered i asked mike how much the rl-i10 weighs a while back. for anyone who cares, its about 22lbs.

    looking for a lightweight sub

ahhh thanks btw, anyone know exactly how much a RL-i10 weighs? the 8 weighs in at 18lbs, but their site doesn't tell you how much the 10 weighs. Since I love my RL-p12 I'm trying to convince my friend to go with an RL-i

    looking for a lightweight sub

care to explain that more in depth? how does the fact that this is a hatchback influence the weight/size of the box?

    looking for a lightweight sub

The sub will be powered by a bridged eD Nine.2, which is advertised at 400wrms, but if i remember correctly has benchmarked ~430-450wrms. Its an acura rsx type-s (hatchback, with gutted interior, and a good amount of sound dampening/deadening). Intended application... its a daily driver that gets tracked every once in a while. the sub will definitely not be for parking lot/stop light "bumping", merely to enhance his own music experience. lol

    rlp spl meter

in many cars, facing the sub straight to the back of the car, and having it positioned in the back of the trunk brings the best SPL gains. As far as average gains on spl goes, its very hard to say, since decibels are measured exponentially. a 1db gain in the 140s means worlds, whereas a 1db gain in the 120s would be far less remarkable. You will definitely hear a difference as far as sound reproduction goes. less outside noise coming in, more sound staying in. If you really want good results from your deadening, don't waste your time with second skin sludge, as I did. I thought thicker = better dampening, but apparently not. Anthony from second skin told me that regular Spectrum is harder to put on, but yields far better results, and Spectrum Firewall is their best liquid dampener. So unless you want the ease of application that Sludge gives you, but want to sacrifice functionality, you might want to change your order.

    SS RL-P12 D4 review

After having the sub broken in for a little more than a week, I finally decided to do this thing. Packaging/build quality: Came in a white box labeled 29lbs. The sub seemed to be pretty secure in the box, and they gave me two soundsplinter stickers, one of which will be the only sticker I'll ever sport on my car. The sub looks awesome. I couldn't see any part of it that worried me. There's plenty of glueing on it, but that can't hurt. Equipment: 1 kenwood HU set of DEI Viper 650.2 components powered by 1 DEI Viper 400.2 amp (i'm actually using an eD nine.2 temporarily) 1 SoundSplinter RL-P12 d4 powered by 1 Lanzar Vibe 1200d @ 2ohm (748wrms) ~1.00 cu ft gross box (~0.75 cu ft net) Listening experience: While breaking it in, I kept thinking it was done breaking in, but it just kept getting louder and louder. Now that the breaking in is done, I simply can't believe how loud this thing can get in only a ~1.00 cu ft box with 748wrms running to it. But it doesn't just get loud, it stays clean and awesomely punchy through out my whole volume range. It takes death metal and drum n bass with ease, just asking for more power. I want to give it more, but I can't, because my lights are starting to dim when the bass drops . Once I upgrade to a bigger box, it'll be perfect. Awesome SQ sub, IMO. Imaging: The sub has the same "magic" as the old eD a-series had. meaning, if you're standing just outside the car, you won't hear much of the sub, but once you stick your head in the window, you can hear it pounding away. Also, people in nearby houses or cars will hate you. Pricing: Singles go for $235, pairs for $430, not that you'd ever need more than one, but if you like your spls with a little bit of deafness, then go for it . I paid $266 shipped to my house. Overall system review: Since I'm a student, I'm on a tight budget, and so I had to make my selections carefully. I've spent a total of about $975 (i know i didn't break a grand) on my system, and it destroys many systems, SQ-wise, i've heard out there, including my friend's, on which he spent close to 2 grand on. So you can imagine how happy I am. Summary: This sub, to me, is IDMAX meets eD a-series. It has the punchiness of the A-series, but the ability to be freakin loud, like the IDMAX. It's exactly what I wanted. After hearing this sub, I find it hard to believe that I'll buy any product from another company. As I've said in my other thread, mike is an awesome guy, so I don't mind supporting his cause  5 out of 5 from me. tried to take a pic of the excursion with a slower shutter speed, but this pic doesn't do the sub justice: Link to old thread, with other pictures of the sub.
