damn i hate that i missed this, i'm in good ole bburg too, i have next to no system but really want to hear some that people have put real work into.
-
Lol they didn't have timing chains, but yes they had belt problems, mainly a manufacturing problem, get the right belt and you have no problems, wrong belt and you'll have tons.
-
i figure all of them should be very close in performance, but figured the difference would mainly be in how they deliver their performance...spl sq sql
-
I want sql, i want subs that are tight as can be but still hit you in your chest and get loud. My atlas 15s are loud but just not quite loud enough, my bro still thinks his audiobahns were better, so i need louder, but still tight bass. here's what i'm considering, feel free to suggest other subs but keep them 15s, keep them round, and keep them non-mainstream, if a 15 year old will know what it is, i don't want it the top of the list is the ones i'm leaning towards, only 3 in the list as of now though 1. Stereo Integrity Mag 2. Soundsplinter LMT 3. Ascendant Audio Avalanche -maybe should be in 2nd i've heard great things about the mags, the soundspliter seems to lack spl and needs tons of wattage to get loud, i'm not all about that, the avalanche i have no idea what to expect...i know the atlas was great and i'm sure the ava was too but the new ava might not be, and who knows when it'll be out.
-
even though i've decided to stay loyal to ascendant, i'd love to hear some of the mags if there's anyone close to me (blacksburg, VA) that has the old or the new, or hell if there's anyone close that just wants to show off their system and drink beer, i haven't personally met anyone around here that really knows subs, and i am very new to the hobby

wouldn't this kill my trunk???? edit, in case you all wanted to see i threw together some of the subs i was considering before, limited them to my enclosures and tuning to where i felt was appropriate, i was hugely impressed with the LMT but odn't see a need to tune quite so low, 10hz might be fun but i'll never need to hear it. (can't anyway) here's my sucky pic of my actual trunk the grey/black would be hollow all the way down to the spare http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y50/vladd06/NewBox.jpg and here's the sub comparison on WinISD, probably no use to you all since the box constraints are for my box, a few of them were really on the low side, but i'm highly impressed at the LMT's low freq response http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y50/vladd...bcomparison.jpg

ok so the car is a 98 Dodge Stratus. I have to have access to my spare tire and would prefer a removeable enclosure but thats probably not happening. What i have now are two boxes 3/4" MDF 3.13cubes each tuned to 36hz. i want something that'll look more custom and less amateur. I've considered finishing my boxes and what not but its really not worth it to me, i'd rather just toss the boxes (not actually throw away) and start with fiberglass. I'm pretty good with fiberglass but never tried it in cars/audio, i think i can manage though. what i really need from you all is ideas on how to make this look good, i'm wanting front firing subs like they do now, and my amps are mounted on the back of my seat which will be changed. As of now i'm thinking i'll fill the whole trunk with the enclosure, make a huge scallop like hole that allows me to get to my spare, this will make the enclosure almost wishbone shaped and easy to split into two boxes which might be removable with the help of god, should weild a little more in cubes too. after that i could make a cover for the hole left from the scallop and put the amp rack there I've also considered something rawdogj suggested, which is making the enclosure as big as i want and just cutting a hole for the spare to be accessed from under the car (there is room) and do it sorta like the old corvettes (just a panel where you drop down and pull the spare out that way) this would let me have 10+cubes but once again how would i ever finish the fiberglass enclosure if i make it all inside the trunk ?? probably not going to be able to. i really want a custom look this time and i want to put a lot more time/effort in, throw ideas my way, i am fitting 15" subs as thats what i have now. My height can be 16.5" at best unless i remove my 6x9's which i'll probably do, this will only give me another inch or two at best. My width at the least wide spot is a little more than 36" (my current boxes are 18" wide and the two of them don't totally fill the width. front to back i should get 36" at best, this gives me a 12.375 cubes if the box is rectangular, so i should be able to squeeze a little more out with the odd shapes. blah its 2:40am and i'm ranting now, someone give me an outside the box idea...like "drill two 14" holes in the trunk lid and mount them there"
-
yea i think we are talking about hte same thing, but i would extend the enclosure all the way to the back of the trunk which i don't think your drawing did, or i'm reading it wrong...i'll try to do a little better drawing buy my skills aren't so good with paint..i'm pretty good with a bo staff though
-
tossing ideas is exactly what i need, the wishbone all the way to back is what i was thinking, and the hollow scallop having the hinged false floor amp rack, would be pretty kick a55 also i don'tt hink ihave room for an enclosure just in front of hte spare, it runs pretty far up towards the cabin

ok, let me clarify my setup and whats going on. Right now i can give each 15" subwoofer 3cubes no problem. If i glass an enclosure i should have no problem giving them 5cubes each(if need be). Buying another 1200d and strapping them won't be a problem either as i'm actually working now and don't really have any bills. Buying new subs is not a big deal either cause its not me buying them, my gf said she would do it for me, so there's no way i'm passing up the opportunity to get ~$1000 worth of subs (thats what my max limit is...ish) the subs won't be bought till december as an x-mas present so maybe Ascendant will have their new line out by then, but who knows, for now we can compare the avalanche was all i was saying. I 100% agree i don't like going on number for the RL-S, it could be an awesome sub, or it could suck and no use to gamble. i'm hoping as people demo them i can get better responses here. as far as being a basshead....i can't help it, i'm truly not impressed with the shake my nuts loudness. I mean they get LOUD but i also accept they aren't high end subs and i am starting to see their limitations. if i'm going to get free subs, i want the best sub for me that i can get. i hate sloppy bass though and would rather keep my atlii than give up SQ at the volumes it'll play at EDIT: i've decided to wait for Ascendant's new line, i talked to chad and coupled with how pleased i was with these subs for the money, i don't think my confidence will be misplaced

"i would probably get another 1200d which means i can get about 2500W @ 2ohms stable lower too" and i know a guy that runs his strapped at 1ohm with no probs, plus i don't care to abuse it just a little since i have a hookup :-D edit: i have the two boxes right now at 3.13 each and if i fiberglass then i can squeeze out at least 6-7 probably much more.
-
ok...but they're 3.5ohms per sub right? 2 subs = 7 or 1.75 ohm
-
uhm...the orions would be, 3.5 in parallel is 1.75ohms which puts me above 2500W total or about 1250 per sub, still on the small side, i'm thinking the efficiency of the stereo integrity will help me here as i don't want to run anything more than two 1200ds
-
i was going to mention the adire line, but in all honesty i just don't like the attitude the guy has (dan i think it is). I didn't want to mention this cause so many people think he's great, but i don't and i don't want to support his company, and before you reply understand that it is my choice and you probably won't sway it. right now i have the 1 orion 1200d and 3.13cubes tuned to 36hz with next to no port area, so i will most likely be doing new boxes...almost guaranteed actually, i'm wanting to start some fiberglassing soon and make about 5 cubes each, but we'll see how that goes :-D i would probably get another 1200d which means i can get about 2500W @ 2ohms stable lower too edit: the atlas 15s definately show up the bahns but he won't admit it, they are SOOOO much better sounding and the loudness is close but i win for inside the car loudness, outside the car it still sounds weak, but i consider that a good thing
-
the cars had no problems with the head gaskets, it was the head. That little baby was a beast and when put in the daytona (what i have) its a much nicer looking car. The engine is beyond cheap to get hp from too, for what a ricer spends for 30hp, i can get 100.
-
ahhhh so beautiful, i just wish i could make up my mind which subs i want, i need to hear some reviews!!!! btw i think i should get 2 free 15s cause my aunt's best friend's daughter has a heart condition and since i usually take her out for ice cream (i'm a good person) i could use the subs as pacemakers and it'd be like you all were saving the life of an innocent child...so i'll give you my address when you need it :-D just remember...think of the poor child
-
ohhhh please tell me you meant the R/T, i have an iroc R/T that would be a beast had i the time to go visit my bro and get it running, haven't had it up since i rebuilt the engine (right before i headed to college)
-
with cars this light why on earth are they not using rotary engines? the hp is limitless and i'm sure it'd even save a few pounds
-
ok i hope that's "on the small side" and not "too small" would suck ot have to pay for...new wiring, another 1200d, AND fiberglassing stuffs, bah so much frickin work. and of course i have some tiny ports now too so there's another reason for a new enclosure. this really is a never-ending hobby isn't it?
-
i'm already overpowering them, and i don't think i'd like the lower tuning, i don't listen to a lot of songs that have super low bass, so i'd probably miss those 50-60hz hits of course if it wasn't nearly impossible for me to change the tuning i'd give it a try
-
good, my atlas 15s get loud and are very clear, but they don't ever move that much , and i want something that will get even louder but still have good SQ edit: my current boxes are right at 3.20 cubes(before woofer displacement) and tuned to 36hz should they work ok, i really don't think i can squeeze too much more room out of the trunk
-
so 2 of these 15s should be enough to boom a little in my stratus, right?
-
make your own box, that way it'll fit btw if you're limited on trunkspace, why go with a 15? what kind of car is it? whats your max height vs width vs depth?
-
i'm just signing up here to get skooled about stereo integrity mags, my gf agreed to buy me two for x-mas but i'm already running two ascendant audio atlas 15s at ~1000W and want to make sure this upgrade will be worth the $$
-
well if we have bburg people we should meet up beer and speakers!!!
