Frostedflakejake replied to Frostedflakejake's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
yeah i got my sound deadening ready and i'm going make some baffles. and is that really it? it doesn't seem like it should be that simple.....ha i was actually kinda hoping that the response would be "no, they won't sound better" just so i wouldn't have the temptation to install them once they get here, its cold!!! hah thanks alot for the tips -
Alpine 3522s on Boston Acoustics
Frostedflakejake posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
So before i scurry up the money to buy a sax125.2, i would like to still be able to play my boustin acoustic pro60se 6.5's. digging through the garage i found one of those old school alpine 3522s. i've been looking through the internet and need some clarification. Its 30 watts at 4 ohms. 2channel. the pro60se are 125 watts a side at 3 ohms. so my question is, would the boustin acoustics sound better off of the 3522s than the stock speakers off of my head unit? another, more serious question. i Read on another forum that since this amp is so old school, it won't match up with my head unit. they said the amp is 1v inputs (true??) and my head unit has 4v outputs. to me, it seems as if that would make the amp not compatible. is this true? THANKS -
i say never run above RMS but still have head room. for me, i don't need more than 2500. 2000 on the BTL, 500 for components < im only going to use 250 but i'm doing front stage only and i can't say i wouldn't do more, because i haven't heard my BTL yet, but from what i've hear, i would have no desire for a second one. not in a daily. just run RMS and leave a little head room. simple.

well i do have some rather un-pleasant news about sonicelectronix to share. For the past 4 business days (six days), my order status has been on this "Phone Verification" bullshit. xon't get me wrong, i think the phone verification is a good idea, but how can it take four business days? it took them two business days to verify my shipping address as well. So far its been six business days and UPS doesn't even have the damn shipment. I sent an e-mail to their support desk today. Slightly frustrated.

true that Duran. Kicker has so much more curb appeal, or at least where i live it does.

"The only thing that I can see that would make this not be a good move, is that if they dont carry the full line in stores and just keep the low end stuff. " yeah i hear that. The best buy's near me always do that. Like they have p1's or p2's if you're lucky. Pretty good head unit selection though in comparison to subs. I was impressed they had my 9886, didn't have the 9887 of course. They did match my internet pricing as well which i also didn't expect. excited about the kickers!!! i wish they could keep them all

Alright, so i finally have all the pieces together for the btl. Alternator, battery, amp, wiring, ect. So now to this whole... building my own box thing. i would prefer around 32hz and 7.5-8 ft^3 before displacements for sub and bracing. I have 3/4 inch MDF (its actually 11/16ths). So one question is how do i brace it properly? And... i need box calculations for a standard Sub facing up, port facing back of vehicle design. I really like Mac n' Cheese's idea of coating the inside of the box with resin, i might do that. so 7.5-8 cubic feet, 32hz, and the dimensions i have to work with in the back of my explorer are 44.5" wide, 25" tall, 22" deep. Maybe 30" tall if it makes a huge difference. i apologize for this, i know how annoying these "please build me a box!!!" posts are, but i need help.... thanks!
-
by the way mac n' cheese, i see that your BTL is near the port side of the box where in most of the ones i've seen, the sub is on the other side of the port. Any special reason for this?
-
thanks mac n' cheese. i have quite a bit of experience with resin so no worries. but yeah it's definitely being done in the garage, its too damn cold here in michigan. I'll let you know if anything comes up. I appreciate it!

yeah this is my third system. pioneer championship series 12" in sealed boxes two mtx tr55's 12's in mtx ported box < actually pretty good both powered by a Crunch p1100.2 < definitely not a powerhouse, but it did take quite the beating physically and electronically. but yes, this is by far my first "real" set up. thanks alton and jon for your help =] and yeah a build log is a must!!
-
okay =] thanks for all your help. so i just make the port side board 5 3/8" shorter, right? so it doesn't connect to the side. and then i connect another board to that going 18"into the box right? Just double checking =]
-
oh!!! dur. thanks alton. Any advice on the whole port thing? the 18" means it goes 18" into the box right? so then how far from the side piece do i make the port?
-
thanks! but why does the baffle and bottom go wider than the sides? "baffel(s) 32'' x 22' '] [ bottom 32'' x 22'' ] [ sides 20.5'' x 23.5'' ]" shouldn't the sides be 22"X23.5" then to make it so the baffles and bottom don't overextend past the side boards? and "physical port length 18"" means that the port goes 18" into the box?? if so then where do i start it from the edge? i apologize but i don't know the language well enough to fully understand

If you would to throw in another amp suggestion feel free just those 125.2's are only $157 on db-r and i'm probably going to order one

6.5" component systems
Frostedflakejake replied to Frostedflakejake's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I just purchased the Boston Acoustics =] i'd figured for the whole "buy and try" philosophy. hopefully those sax 125.2 's will still be for sale when i get $157! -
so im looking at some two way 6.5" component systems If im only doing front stage, i still need a four channel amp, right? 2 channels for the two 6.5's, and 2 for the tweets? i just want to make sure because i'm trying to take advantage of the amps on db-r before they are gone.... thanks!

6.5" component systems
Frostedflakejake replied to Frostedflakejake's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
wow, forgot the purpose. A solid sound quality component system to help balance the bass coming from a 18btl on a saz3000d -
yeah will do for sure I was hoping to get a kinetik but no one has them and i just learned that they are moving all their warehouses and production plants?? or something like that? that's what wooferect.com told me, so im literally ordering the shuriken right now. I figured it was a comparable replacement
-
ah excellent. thanks for clearing up the confusion. I had read people running them with a 2 channel, and other people running with a 4. Thank you!

gotta love that sonic pricing as well
