Boston Acoustic Pro60SE review
Frostedflakejake replied to Frostedflakejake's topic in Product Reviews
I will take some pics tomorrow. i didn't take any during the installation process and i'm kicking myself for not. The pictures won't be glorious, ha, the stock plastic is covering them. Here are some of pictures i took when the set showed up at my door! -
I purchased the Boston Acoustic pro60se component system from Sonicelectronix for 289.99 about four months ago and i feel like i've had enough time with the set to make a reliable review. The bad news is that this is the first after market component set that i've really had any true experience with so this review may not have a whole lot of value. oh well The set has been running off of an old Alpine 3522 its entire life, so there is no doubt that they aren't getting their RMS (125 watts at 3ohms). The set was installed in the front doors in replacement of the stock speakers in my 2004 explorer. No modification was needed; they were pretty much a bolt on. and the tweeter is in line with the woofer using the stock mount. Now this is very important, i have done no modifications to the door. No sound deadening has been installed. That plus the low wattage causes a pretty large lack in mid-bass, but that's not the speakers fault. Now onto clarity. These speakers just honestly make it seem like i'm there in the studio. I have the adjustable tweeters set to all the way up on the crossovers. The vocals that come out of the speakers honestly seem like i have somebody in the car talking to me. It's very noticeable in the beginning of "baby got back" when the girl is talking. It's very noticeable in other songs as well, just I know that's a very famous song that people can relate to. Instrument reproduction is good as well and everything distinguishes itself very nicely. The best way to describe it is that i feel as if i'm in the studio listening to the band record their music. i love it. I would strongly recommend this set to anyone. but like i said before, i haven't heard any other sets even remotely close to this price range.

2 channel 150 watt amp. suggestions?
Frostedflakejake replied to wayneo99's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
unfortunately db-r has no 125.2's in stock right now =[ i was thinking about buying one as well due to me needing one and the outstanding customer service Chris gives. They do however have 100.4's in stock, but they are more expensive than the 125.2's that you can get from woofersect -
Just giving Fi some love for bringing back the X line! Might have to get some for the lady friend.

check out www.madisound.com here's one Eton 4-200/A8 Symphony, 4" Mid/Bass with Aluminum Former from Madisound the mid-bass ones aren't their own section so you gotta search a little bit to find them. Don't expect a whole lot of midbass from a 4" though...

Two quick questions that are really easy but i can't seem to find. Is the remote that comes with a SAZ-3000d for bass-boost or gain? I think it's for gain but i want to be sure before anything bad happens. Also, i have read what to set the Subsonic filter too, but what about the Low pass? Is it just a "whatever sounds better to you" thing? Or will setting it too high hurt my Sub? thanks!

Correction on my last post, i don't know where to put the LOW PASS. not the high pass. My mistake. So can someone help me on what to do with the LOW pass? thanks

Measuring amplifier output (wattage)
Frostedflakejake replied to Typicaljawaiian's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
According to the How To section here, you aren't supposed to leave the speakers hooked up while measuring the voltage -
In reference to Phi, i thought using bass boost increased the chance of sending a clipped signal? i know that a filter won't send a clipped signal if i made it seem that i thought that. CrazyKenKid: Your information on the Gain remote was extremely helpful. I was wondering if one canceled them out or how they worked together but now I know! But I don't seem to exactly follow the info on the High Pass. I got that it can hurt the sub and not to put it out of manufacture specs but that's about it. ha. Sorry, i bet what you said probably makes sense to some people but i just can't grasp it. Maybe if i get more detailed, you can help me better. I have a BTL in a 32hz box built by yours truly. I have absolutely NO CLUE where to set the high pass. OH, the box is about 7.3 cubes if that helps. as to others, I know how to set subsonic filter. I know how to set gain with a multimeter (wish i had an oscope ) and now thanks to CrazyKenKid and Phi, my remote question is solved!

I know WHAT a lowpass filter is. I said i didn't know where to set it. My question was if i set the lowpass too high, can that harm my sub? And i already knew about the SSF but thanks anyways!! And i just wasn't sure whether the remote was for Gain or Bass Boost. I know some kicker amps have a remote which is for bass boost and i know most other amps are for gain. I just wanted to make sure i had it right. I apologize for wanting to make sure i had something right before i send a clipped signal to my BTL. It's just i've had so many issues and so much bad luck with my set-up. 1/2 my fault, 1/2 bad karma i guess. Just now-adays i take things 1 step at a time and double check everything.

Well is it a daily set-up or a comp set up?

sweet!! looks like an awesome ride! i would like to do one of those... all the trails near me are wooded and forest areas so it would be nice to switch it up. Looks like you ride suzuki eh? and is that a KTM i saw in the beginning?

I'd just like to say i love your amp rack install and how it looks inside your car! I think it's badass. I'm interested to know about the fans as well. I was going to install some myself but making them fit and look nice adds a certain level of complication. Good luck on your heat issues! Sweet install

How do you know the sub isn't clipping?
-
That's a pretty badass box... you make that yourself?

Cool car =] i got the same in a 2004 only with different wheels. Good luck on the... transfer? ha

Hate the red and black bowtie on the back. i think it's cool, but i sure as hell wouldn't even pay 1/8 of what he did for it. -
well what do you want out of your setup? what are you max dimensions to work with? are they championship series or championship pro series?

Need Stereo Advice
Frostedflakejake replied to SaxMan's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Ha yeah i feel you on the best buy. but not only did they have my 9886 but they were willing to meet internet pricing! i was rather impressed. And hey, if you think you're in love with the thing and you read alot of credible reviews, then personally i would buy it. But personally, i would probably regret it. ha. It's just like me and my BTL. i bought it solely due to youtube videos and some reviews i've seen on here. I have no idea what the thing is going to sound like and i'm afraid i won't like it! I would have felt much more comfortable checking one out first! So if you can, i would advise you to do the same! -
ha that's what i was thinking Shizzz, i was afraid he might have been a serious competitor and then i would look like a fool.

replacing stock speakers all around
Frostedflakejake replied to pimppistol's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I agree. I think it's more beneficial to buy a really good set for the front and keep the back stock in comparison to have an okay set in the front and an okay set in the back. Another set in the back won't change the sound for you as much as you would probably like. And what tweeters are you running that sound busted? are they in the front with the type s or in the back? -
i would love to know how he's powering all those. i had two of them as my first install. oh i remember the ol' days

Need Stereo Advice
Frostedflakejake replied to SaxMan's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I would definitely try to check the head unit out physically in person. it really helped me choose which head unit to get for myself. Personally i think it's worth a drive to a local shop or best buy! Unfortunately i have no experience with that company so i can't help you out in that manner =[ Best of luck! -
If you have that second one and a D2 FiQ then you are wired at 4ohms! so about 850 or 900 watts which is good! Now, what head unit do you have? and what is your gain set to on the amp?
