Thanks! the wait for this thing was horrible though. It was always "2 more weeks!" haha -
i've spent over 4.5 years of my life in a tiny town here in the U.P. but it's weird to go from my summer home to HERE and not back home. It's just... the culture isn't diverse at all. Definately not used to that

Just wondering if any Michigan Tech students are on the board. I'm an incoming freshman this year and its orientation week and i've been sporting my fi clothing in attempt to find another SSA member or anyone interested in car audio. (real car audio, not the kids that buy their enclosures at best buy and have everything installed there as well) SO i was wondering if anyone on here is an active Michigan Tech student? Or any Northern Michigan university students? (girly goes there) Or any members from the Upper peninsula of michigan at all? thanks!

No problem man! I try to help but it's hard because i don't know half as much as half the people here! If you want a more technical reason, try the search function. It will take a long time but i've read multiple threads of M5 explaining the advantages so these threads are out there! I run a boston acoustic pro60se set that I got for a tad shy of $300 at sonicelectronix. They are the first set I've seriously listened to and I'm satisfied. Of course, I need to deaden my doors and get a proper amp on them before I'm done with them, but as of right now, i'm fully contempt with them!
-
All this is from experience, not knowledge: In my car, '04 explorer, I've replaced my front door speakers with a component set and am currently running them at around 50 watts a piece. At any volume level, I can't hear my rears which are being powered off the head unit. More experienced members on the board (M5 especially) seem to consistently say that you should spend all your money on one set for the front doors. That's what i did and i don't regret it. I've also haven't had any complaints about people in the back not being able to hear music well. If i were you, i would get one set for the front and not worry about the back

So i've read on numerous threads that the RE box calculator tunes a tad bit high. Personally, i'm a noob when it comes to making boxes so this RE calculator is just a great tool!! I use it mixed with Win Isd to make my box! i just really wish win isd had a slot port option So for people like me, and many other box designing noobs the RE calculator is awesome!! Its free, easy to use, you can see what changing port dimensions do to your tuning. So, does the Re calculator ALWAYS tune high? is it the same everytime? I'm curious because i'm desiging, or trying to, a box for my friend for his first gen 15" icon which i purchased for him. Also, on a side note, when designing a box, how far should the edge of the basket be from the edge of the box? I'm sorry if these qustions have already been asked. I couldn't really find a specific reason or a specific answer for how high the RE calculator tunes. Any Help is greatly appreciated!

Frostedflakejake replied to bdogg81's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Budget is important. I've heard of a few members here having there's go *POOF* with a cloud of smoke. But that could easily be user error! -
need info on OHM 's for Fi BTL . questions about future system. an

F.Y.I. A BTL setup from the ground up (head unit, electrical, amp, sub, wiring, fuses, box (even if you make your own), sound deadening) will cost around 3k. Mine did and i did skimp some corners here and there. My battery isn't the greatest out there, and i should have called DC to see if they could make an alt for my vehicle. But YES, you will need to get another battery in the back. For an amp, keep your eyes on the for sale section and craigslist for a Sundown Audio saz3000d. If you can't, i would suggest this Crescendo Audio :: Amplifers :: 3KWP Monoblock Amplifier they are out of stock untill september as you will read but i would highly suggest that as a replacement to the sundown. -
The Skizzy is right. a decent battery is at least $300 shipped (and that's decent, not really good) even if you don't do the highoutput alt which you almost most likely will need to do, Wiring alone will run you about $100 more. high output alt is around $400. Upping the power to >2000watts is huge step with your electrical. Pricing Info: Battery- kinetik hc2400 (xs power 3100 would be better most likely) Wiring - knukonceptz 1/0 gauge power wire 25-30 feet Alt- Iraggi. (DC much better, but not made for as many vehicles) Stuff isn't cheap man. Good luck with whatever you do!

Try to get that money quick, as soon as they get 20 boxes bought, the prices go up to normal cost! (i also choose the chrome blue dustcap

Yes, look into Khaotic enclosures. They are having a crazy opening sale going on. (links are on the top of like every page on the forum but incase you're blind... Khaotik Enclosures - SSA STORE

looking for 2 8"s for 2000 gmc xcab
Frostedflakejake replied to tomnjenn05's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Yeah i here great things about the Sa-8's. Especially now with the new bolt down spider feature!! If i were to buy 8's, i would buy the SA's -
Crocs? really?
-
jay-cee means It wouldn't hurt the amp to run a bigger gauge wire for the ground but yeah just do battery ground and amp ground! Make sure they are good grounds that run to the frame! (may or may not be hard to find depending on your vehicle and amp location)
-
yes the big 3 should help with the voltage drop! Also try to upgrade your grounds with a bigger wire!

Don't open the back tailgate\hatch?
Frostedflakejake replied to mrbojang's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Yeah that doesn't seem to make any sense to me at all. It should be absolutely fine to open your rear hatch while subs are playing. -
Good for what? What are you looking for? What price range?
-
No problem man! Not sure how much research you've done so i apologize if i seem to be insulting your intelligence; but a BTL setup or any setup up in that wattage range is not cheap. At all. The price of the woofer(s) is only about 1/4 of the price of the install. FYI, i spent 2k on my BTL setup and its a single 18. I could have easily spent more and i plan on it in the future when i have the funds. Bumping a'int cheap! Good luck with your build!!!

interesting story with that one kirill, i got pulled over while driving for speeding and the cop came to the window and i was Playing hot Rod lincoln by Commander Cody and the cop started talking to me, license, registration, all normal. then he realized the song and told me to turn it up. Turns out he and his pappy used to listen to it all the time. I guess he liked it enough to let me go!! I was only going 3 over...

Okay well what people mean by a charging system is that if you get an amp that puts the BTL to it's full potential (2000 watts) you are going to need to provide that amp with more electricity than your stock car can produce. This is acheived with a High output alternator and extra battery(s). High output alternators are vehicle and engine specific. Companies like Iraggi and DC are some i can reccommend. Batteries: lots of people suggest XS power. A kinetic hc2400 is always a good choice too. 2 BTL's is a lot of power. I would get a high output alt and 2 big ol' batteries at least. as for an amp... that really depends on your budget. If you have the cash, Sundown SAZ-4500.
