    Regular speaker amps

thats what most people do (including me) its usually more cost efficient and usually gives the user more tunability of the system

getting bit by an 18 inch bug

Personally speaking, i would look for a used BTL or get the xcon. You can find a used 18" 2nd gen in great condition for that price (i just sold mine for $350). Are you planning on adding another one to the system later? if not get D1's and if you're worried about having too much power from the amp just get your gains properly and you'll be fine. if you got a BTL, i would do 7.4 net cubic feet (after displacement and port area) tuned to around 34hz for your listening type. But thats just me! Best of luck on your search. Have you heard any of the mentioned drivers in person?

Fresh start on a system for a Ford Tempo

I for one will say that you will need a new alternator if the tempo has the same alt that it was produced with. Cars back then just didn't need as much electricity as they do nowadays so the alts didn't produce all that much! the stock alt in my 87' bronco is supposed to produce only 70 amps. Ain't gonna cut it friend!

    Double slot ported box

I'm only going to respond to what i know man! Do you know you want a response that flat? I'm sorry if i seem like im talking down to you or being disrespectful! I have and WinIsd too and i have no clue what that "40.9" is. The mach rating is the amount of air turbalance in the ports. The lower the number, the less the port noise, the better. However, you probably aren't going to notice much of a difference from .01 to .09 (as long as tuning is the same). As long as that number is green (under .14) the programmer of WinISd feels that you have adequate port area. But it's always good to go with the manufactures specs if they have them. Its worth an e-mail to them to try to find out!

    Headlights! - opinion needed

Hello! I was hoping some guys could help me with some simple opinions on what you would do! I ride a 2010 Buell Lightning xb12ss and I was thinking about changing the headlights and ran across some possibilities that i think are rather cool! Problem is that there are different color options and i just can't decide! All color options require some custom fitting in the headlight assembly housing. First, for reference, there will be a pic of the bike! (old, before some visually appealing mods were done) Then some pictures of the different lights im considering. What i would like is for people to state what they think would look best! Either pick a color, or simply tell me to leave it stock! There are 4 options for lights. A blue halo with red projectors, a white halo with blue projectors, a blue halo with clear projectors (look blue in photos but it says they are clear!), and stock. Onto pics! ^ red projectors with blue halos ^ different angle of red projectors with blue halos ^white halos with blue projector ^ blue halos clear projector (looks blue to me) ^another picture of the blue halos and clear projector. ^picture of bike ^sideview of bike. To give you an idea of the style im going for... kind of batman meets evil. This is the helmet im getting as soon as i find a local store with them stock so i can try on different sizes. Recognize it?? Thanks for your time!

    Headlights! - opinion needed

Thanks a ton man! The cops down near my families place (where i am over the summer) are RIDICULOUS so i may just keep it stock. Ahhh I hate making decisions like this! You've been a lot of help! =]

    Headlights! - opinion needed

Oh guys!!! The light shines through clear! Red/blue light doesn't come out of the projectors! They just... somehow look red and blue. here is a link to the ebay posting and if you scroll down you will see a picture of the light that comes through. I mean, i by no way pretend to understand how that works, but the picture definately shows clear light coming through! Lights here! BUT TRP you do raise a concern about the blue halo... i agree that the halo being blue would probably be illegal and get me into trouble. Good thinking there.

    2nd gen 18" BTL Parameters

I was wondering if someone could list the parameters on the 2nd gen (UFO style magnet) BTL's for the 18". Im playing around with some Win Isd plots and was wondering how my BTL would compare! Thanks for your time!

    Anyway to Access old threads?

I was trying to go under the "my content" tab under my screenname to pull up an old thread when a nice fellow helped me design my box so that I could grab the max dimensions I had listed for my vehicle. However, when I got to "my content" i noticed the cut-off date for things to show up was anything after February 10th or 12th of 2010. I realize that that's probably a pretty reasonable time... but is there anyway for me to be able to find my old thread? using the search functioned, i searched anything that was posted by user "frostedflakejake" (me) and it came up with 8 pages of results but page 6, 7, and 8 were blank. Im assuming that the servers know I have old threads and old posts but I just can't get to them? It would be really nice if i could get the thread of my box building help! Thanks!

    Michigan Tech - Winter Carnival

IIRC, they have 8,000-12,000 rms on stock. It fluctuates depending if all their amps are working or not. No worries, i plan on talking to the guys tomorrow to figure out exactly whats going on! And I'll take pictures too! sidenote - i grew up in metro detroit and came up here during christmas and all 3 months of summer. The change wasn't nearly as harsh as others but it's still weird man. They don't salt any roads except for the highways which are LIGHTLY salted. It was weird going home for break and seeing asphalt again.

    Michigan Tech - Winter Carnival

Its the time of year where Michigan Tech in Houghton, Michigan holds their annual Winter Carnival. Students get this thursday and friday off to enjoy a break in studies and enjoy our vast amounts of snow. There are a few main attractions for Carnival, one is the huge ice and snow sculptures that are made. Most aren't fully complete yet so i won't post pictures of those until tomorrow. The other attraction is a little setup our AES (Audio Engineering Society) chapter puts together. Its mostly the main attraction for young people since you can only look at snow sculptures for so long. Here are a few pics of this years display. I'll get more pics tomorrow but as tonight was opening night and the all-nighter, its pretty packed out there. In case you missed it, there are 40 mtx thunder square subwoofers and then 24 18" woofers. I was at the meeting when they discussed which 18''s to use but i don't remember. I'll find out tomorrow! I'm pretty sure the mtx's are 12's too. Power supply is in a small trailer behind the setup; the crew was pretty busy finally enjoying their hard work so i didn't want to bother them with questions tonight. The enclosure walls are all snow and just the baffles are particle board as you see. Just thought I would share whats happening up here! What are you guys doing with your snow?

    Michigan Term

aww well that's far from Houghton! If the OP was in the U.P. i'd have info for him, Hunter Audio in Marquette has a termlab they'll let you use (maybe a small fee but they're pretty cool guys over there).

Is the sundow 3000d a good amp choice for a btl18?

The majority of your expense with a big amp isn't actually the amplifier itself, that's only half of it. At 2000 watts your looking at buying a high output alternator (around $400) and a larger battery (around $350) in order for you to give that amplifier the necessary amount of electricity it needs to produce 2000 watts. The wiring itself will cost you around $150. I came into the game with a little experience and then decided i wanted to do exactly what you want to do. I ended up spending $1000 more than i predicted. All in all, it's expensive as hell. My substage probably cost me around $2000. To your original question, if you have the finances to upgrade your electrical first, getting a saz3000d is a fine choice for a BTL as long as you are smart and set your gains appropriately. there is one here for $700 http://www.db-r.com/sell/store2/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65_67_69_83&products_id=210 if you watch the for sale section, some are for sale about once a month. I got mine from the link i sent you and its a high quality product. You can buy from db-r safely without having to worry about it being a refurbished product. If you do not upgrade your electrical, and you're voltage drops while you're running the amp, you can ruin the amp. that's for ANY amp not just a sundown. Monitoring your voltage is easy! You can buy a volt meter for like $20 to make sure the amp isn't dropping to voltages too low (below 12v). Stinger probably makes the most common volt meter i've seen. I've been running my BTL18 on a saz-3000d for 8 months now with an iraggi high-output alt and a shuriken bt120 battery with little to no problems. Good-luck man. People are gonna drag on you for not doing alot of research first but i don't really have a problem with it. I'll try to help you with anything you need, as long as i can actually help! I don't know a lot, but i know some!

is my amp a paper weight

hm that stinks that he doesn't have things in stock. When i screwed up my saz-3000d from Chris it was a quick fix for me! (blew my output(s)) best of luck and your amp is in great hands
