    JL audio tw5 13.5" Dust-Cap issue

Ahhhh precious craigslist. Sent the young man a text message: "Hey! I saw your craigslist posting and I'm interested in your JL audio TW5. I'll pay your asking price today and meet you wherever you would like. thanks for your time!" He sent me his address and told me to come on by. So I did. Guess what?! He already sold it! I get there and he's all like "Oh man I thought you wanted my SA8's." Yeah, cause JL audio TW5 looks a hell of a lot like SA 8.

    JL audio tw5 13.5" Dust-Cap issue

Searching through my local craigslist and stumbled upon a TW5 13.5 for $75. It however has a large crack in what I believe to be the dust cap? I've just never seen a dust cap made out of a material like the one I'm looking at which arises my suspicion as to whether or not it is actually a dust cap. Through my googling, I read that re-coning JL audio woofers is strictly done by JL audio. If this is just a dust cap issue, I can fix this myself correct? I've heard of people using epoxy/silicone for this process. Obviously I would like to fix the crack in the woofer and use it. Is this as easily fixable as I suspect? Thanks for your time! Here's a photo to explain more in depth the issue

    Help with 18" Box

I thought i said that your overall height would be 17"? The Torres takes in account the extra .75 for the extra baffle. I also thought I said for your port length to be 30"?? Looks a-something like-a dis: that was at least my intentions!! Forgot to do common port walls, but can I ask why you did three? I would think that in a box like this there would be only 2 common port walls. Which one is the third? With 2 common port walls tuning does drop to 31...

    Welcome to the IHoP

The only thing that bugs me about tattoo's is when something I find inappropriate is plainly visible. Stuff like racial slurs and dis-tasteful use of vulgar language. When I'm taking my nephew out to dinner I don't need him asking me what a "clit licker" is because he saw it on your forearm. I'm also in complete awe at the amount of shitty tattoo's my friends get. That I completely do not understand. Just because you can afford the $50 tattoo doesn't mean you should get it.

Not always true, unfortunately. Many a-times I've been referred to as boring or non-artistic because I don't have a Tattoo.

    Received Q18, terrible packaging

That's how Fi used to ship things. My 2nd generation BTL came exactly like that except for particle board on bottom and top with the 4 2x4s on the corners and then the sub sat on foam and more foam surrounded the cone. Kinda shitty they stopped shipping 'em that way.

print screen and post the picture of your Torres calculations. If I am doing something wrong, I need to know what.

    Help with 18" Box

As long as you really have a port length of 30" that remains 6" wide tuning should be ~32hz. I didn't read back to how I attempted to describe how to build it; there very well could be an error there. I should have done the 3-D model so there was no confusion.

    Help with 18" Box

There is a chance your port is three inches longer than intended. Too tired now to go back and look and over to see if i made a mistake in design/explanation; but I'll get to it tomorrow night if no one else does by then. By the way, that extra 3 inches would only decrease net size by ~.15 cubes. Could be enough to loose a hertz or too.

    Welcome to the IHoP

I went backwards for a bit when I went over to digital. At first, everything was normal. I spent my usual time lining up a shot and thinking about it. But then I got in that awful habit of just snapping 100 pictures and keeping 10. Took me a month or two to stop it and get back into my normal routine. My favorite lens I own right now is my ultra-wide as well. I do however shoot a butt-load of landscape and it is also by far my nicest lens so that probably has something to do with it.... Glad to see you are happy with your choice!

You shouldn't be basing a score off of RMS power. I apologize if you guys aren't doing that, but to me it seems as if you are. There are a fluster of more variables than just 1200 RMS. Hell, that's probably the least important factor.

    Help with 18" Box

I just designed him a very basic box; as i said on page two. I didn't even design it; i just plugged numbers into the Torres calculator. I didn't even know he was even going to compete. He didn't say it was a competition box otherwise I would have suggested a higher tuning. Regardless, I don't try to pretend like I know a damn thing about competing or even box building really. There are plenty of people here who are extremely knowledgeable and I'm not one of them. But I can design a basic box using the Torres calculator; which is precisely what I did. However, in my experience, that's a fine score for the first attempt. If you really want to increase your score you have to have access to a meter. Otherwise you'll never know if what you're doing is making you louder or not.

What I plan on buying (18" Death Penalty) 1st one :D

If you give me max dimensions and desired tuning frequency, i have no problems designing a basic slot port box for you using the Torres box calculator

It just isn't enough port area. Nothing wrong with using a circle port, you're just going to need many of them in order to have a decent port velocity that doesn't hinder performance and add port noise. If they aren't flared ports, I would use 4 of those 6" ports. If you have the room, you can build a slot port. It's much easier to get a lot of port area using a slot port.

What I plan on buying (18" Death Penalty) 1st one :D

Because if that is a 6" circle shaped port, you do not have enough port area
