Depending on the final price of this thing, it sounds like a fun piece of gear to add to the toolbox.

I'm not sure about the light thing, but the heating/cooling issue is screaming faulty thermostat or a problem with the radiator fan(s). How are you sure that the engine is not running hot even though the temp gauge says it is high?

Subwoofer wire size?

I'll second that. -
Subwoofer wire size?
hdrox88 replied to pmureika's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
You asked questions and got answers. Then you tell people they are wrong, or you don't get it. If you don't get it, how can you say they are wrong? If you want someone to calculate your numbers for you, just say so, but that's no way to learn. I use 8awg for my single XCON at 1700rms. Am I wasting money? I think not. It is from an amp kit I bought years ago and it simply has no other use. Wasting money is relative to the amount of wire you will be purchasing. 5 feet of wire from 12awg to 8awg, not much price difference if you ask me. Get the 8awg then you can use it later if/when you run more power. -
Wonder about my alts
hdrox88 replied to antoinez28's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
That voltage sounds high for a stock alternator. Maybe the regulator is getting ready to go out? I'm not sure how long the engine was running, but if the engine was "hot" then your alt(bolted to the engine) will be "hot".- 19 replies

So, what do you do regarding fusing between your h/o alt and the batte
hdrox88 replied to Syphlyn's topic in General Audio
My tahoe has no factory fusing from the alt to the battery and I have no intention of adding one when my new alt goes in. If the positive wire that will be connecting the alt to the battery has a chance of shorting to ground, then a fuse is a good idea. Kinda depends on wire routing, but in most cases a fuse shouldn't be necessary. My 2 pennies before I go to bed. -
SMD DD-1

For someone who doesn't know what they're doing, it's also a good way to break things as it's uselessness goes both ways. -
For a single 15 this xcon continues to impress. I've had some time with the new box and this thing can play low, like 20hz low. I have been running through some decaf music, picking and choosing my likes and dislikes. Some of the songs drop down to 20hz and while it isn't quite as loud as maybe 40hz, I can see my dash starting to flex! At ~25-26hz my steering wheel starts dancing. I know one 15" sub is child's play for a lot of you, but it sure is fun for me. I'm sure rock music may suffer a little bit, but with only one sub there is going to be a trade off somewhere.

Your Custom Gaming Rig

It took some serious getting used to. I'm not sure if it is the same on all variations, but on my razer nostromo, the keys are lined up square to each other and not staggered like a typical keyboard. The keys are also standard height keys. I love the shallow keys(laptop style) on my lycosa so that was another thing to get used to. Once I got the hang of it, I like it a lot. The razer software is pretty awesome, any key can be programmed to do just about anything you want. I'm sure other keypads have similar options though. -
Got it finished off today!

If you have not used them yet, I suggest being very gentle with them. I broke one and I wasn't even using much force to clamp it down. A press fit washer popped right off, I was able to get it back together and use it though. I have the same kinds of clamps as well. You really don't need to crank them down super hard for them to do their job. I learned that the hard way. I didn't think I was using all that much force to begin with though.

My first ported box build, it came together pretty well. I think I'll be giving it a round-over and maybe roll on bed liner. I had it playing for a little bit, it has a much heavier sound now. It seems just the slightest bit louder to the ear, but it is felt much more. Definitely have some new rattles to track down as well.

hifonics x14 x2200.1d series

As long as you have the same battery chemistry you are ok. Meaning, if you have an agm battery in the rear, you want you battery under the hood to be agm as well. I use diehard platinum batteries. They are agm and a good value. They might not look as nice as a kinetik or XSpower battery, but for the price, they are tough to beat. -
I wish I could find another one. I just finished assembly on a new box for my current setup. Going larger, more port area, slightly lower tuning, and firing the sub up this time.

Hmm, I wonder what this could mean?

Key to your last statement, "SMD," you will find that SMD gets little to no rep or respect on this forum. Most of the time for good reason as well. I have an account over there, but I haven't logged on since I can't remember when. Ragging and pissing matches made up most of what I would find over there in my searching. As for voltage, that will vary from person to person. Personally, I try to keep above 13v if at all possible. Since my grounding under the hood, that has been a non issue for me. Though, I already have a second battery. If you start dipping down past battery resting voltage you should strongly consider a second battery if your wiring is already up to par. -
Any new trident info?

hdrox88 replied to Christophe Willis's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
If you are going to be using the full potential of that 2200, keep an eye on your voltage. A second battery would be ideal, but you may be ok depending on your listening habits. -

Hifonics(Maxxsonics) makes great budget amps. I currently run a BRZ2400.1D myself. Lots of other people use them with good results as well. Give an amp proper electrical supply and most amps will perform the same as long as they are of halfway decent quality. -
Need some electrical advice for my first big (to me) build
hdrox88 replied to EddieC's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Diehard platinum batteries go on sale frequently. You could try and see just how far they will go to please you (the customer). I wouldn't count on it though as I think their sales are for online pricing. -
question about battery terminals?
hdrox88 replied to sundownclown's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I thought texting and driving was bad. Taking pictures while driving? Oh boy... As long as the factory wiring is still connected to the proper posts on the battery and the wire fits the terminal properly, you should have no issues. -
Looks good! Makes me want to powder coat mine, a different color of course.

Another key point in this situation is separating the front and back waves. If you have not ventured over to SDS website yet, I highly suggest reading anything and everything on that site. Top notch info, products, and customer service!
