Well, The bottom, sides, back and port all are in the trunk, just have to install bracing and then the front panel and top, and the box will be complete. Should I carpet it?
-
I hope your glue won't effect the subs integrity
-
But then what kinda fun would that be :-p I think im going to build the box inside the trunk, I'm going to use wood dowels to line everything up properly, with some liquid nail(for wood) and pre-drill the screw holes. The only place that won't have screws or the ability to put screws in, will be the Bottom of the inside port wall. Which will be held with wood dowels as well. and the top screwed in. I think this will work out pretty well. I will use 1/4" wood dowels and i will pre-drill all of their holes as well. I'll document this just for fun

I'm confused about this. What do you mean? Like its not that my trunk is small its huge, but the openings aren't

Hey thanks for the responses. Its a 15 Inch IA, LI I'll be using a Hifonics brutus(its like 1200Watt@2ohm RMS amp for the sub) and a Infinity 475a(for speakers) It will be going in a 2004 Dodge Stratus R/T. I think the best option for me would really be to just assemble the box in the back of the car. I can pre drill ever hole, I can set it up so that the walls go around the outside of the bottom layer so i can screw the screws into the side of the walls into the "floor" of the box. Then I can put the port wall in using 90 Degree mounts along with some liquid nail. Then the top would sit into the box just like the bottom such that I can screw the screws around the outside corner. I wish i could diagram it. I really would like to put some angles inside to smooth out the flow of air instead of having a large corner. My only other option is to build the box that will take up my whole trunk, and place the sub on the "top" of the box instead of the side(facing the rear) I can get it to slide in if its less than 23 inches wide, and 13 inches tall. So I had come up with like 23x13x32 or something along those lines. I just prefer to mount the sub on the rear of the box, so that i can put it in after the box is in the car. Instead of having 25 extra lbs on the already heavy box. Edit: I of course won't be pushing 1200 watts to the sub

Great feedback kid, obviously people come here to read remarks like this. Thank you for existing.

Just got an email back, here is what i got for the 15" LI Driver---15 Inch FS --- 27 Hz Re --- 8 ohm series Qms---5.03 Qes ---0.67 Qts ----0.59 Mms ----205 g Cms ---0.15 mm/N Sd ----810 cm^2 Vas ----137 L Spl ----87.6 BL -----15.5 X-max ------21mm Sub Diameter------- 15 1/2 inches Mounting ---------14 1/8 inches Mounting Dept -------- 8 inches Driver Displacement ------ .15 cubic ft. Power ----------- 600 Wrms / 1200 peak Should help with some better box design I hope, I'm gonna run some numbers today.
-
Yup or any bracing, I plan on running those numbers and adjusting port to compensate. I just was looking for a ballpark figure. Then narrow it down as it gets closer to build time, which should be this evening.

Just curious about what numbers this sub can handle, I know its rated at 600RMS. But I thought I've seen people say they put 1000 into it with no problem, Is this true? If so, what would be a safe number to put into it once it is broken in? I will be using this to power it: http://www.techronics.com/caraudio_9666_Hifonics-BXi1908D-1900-watts-Brutus-BXi-Series-Class-D-Monoblock-Car-Amplifier.html Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks for all of the positive replys I plan on running mine at 2 ohms (4ohm DVC in parallel) Using a hifonics rated for 1200RMS @ 2 ohms. But I'm only going to of course set voltage to have the amp pushing 600RMS. I was just curious because of some people ive seen posting things and also because My 187 i had was amazing I loved it, and is the reason i came back to IA when I upgraded Thanks again I check the porch every day waiting for my sub to arrive, building box probably this weekend. Just got done installing some infinity 692.9 6x9's and the 60.9CS 6.5" component package. Only sad part, is i may have to upgrade my alternator, which could cost me some more money as my stock alt only puts out 85 amps. and I'll be running 2 Amps(hifonics for sub and Reference 475A for what i just posted. Running this as my HU I don't nkow what this guys saying, but when this thing opens its the most beautiful display of engineering ive ever seen haha Also, this will likely be what box I will be running Any pointers would be fantastic, as it has been 2 years since ive done research in building a box (ive forgotten everything) and that was for my 187. Again, thanks for the responses

Yeah, I think im going to go with about a 4ft^3 and about 35hz. I just wanted to try to get optimum box size, and the numbers just suck. Oh well I think I might just modify port length on the 4 foot box that is given on the site here for one of the Icons http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/index.php/technical/icon-box-designs/icon-15-optimal-ported.html Hows that look?
-
Yeah, I'm getting insane numbers for optimum box size..lol 16 cubic feet...I ran them like 15 times.. But, I know some people like to have the numbers so I wanted to post them. Someone could double check my numbers and that would be sweet. Because I wanna get my box built before the driver gets here.

I believe I'm going to get an IA 187 10'' or a 12'' I was wondering if anyone can look over my numbers here to be sure that the box I'm planning on building will work correctly.(for a 12) IA Suggests. Ported 2 cubes - 2.5 cubes, 20 - 30 Inches of Port, 28-35 Hz I have designed a box using this tool. http://www.reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html Width 28" Box Height 16" Box Top Depth 12" Box Bottom Depth 18" Wood Thickness 0.75" Square Port Width 1.5" Square Port Length 4" (seems to help tune it in) This gives me. 30.063035251515 Hz I'm asking here, with these variables, Will this box sound good, and work well. I also plan on cutting the port in the opposing side, so i can put the angled side against my car seats, and the sub facing the rear of the car.(Will this change the tuning?) Any suggests about my placement of the port/sub will be greatly appreciated.

What he means is. The sub obviously got him his wife. So its probably awesome!!

Hey all. I am quite new to the world of car audio and its already completely addicting. I found my way to this forum/site thanks to the guys at caraudio. They recommended a 187 series Sub. I plan on ordering a 10 or 12 incher for my new system. I'm running a 5350A Reference amp from infinity. I have 300RMS at 2ohms. Can anyone suggest which would be better, a 10 or 12? Thank you very much. The reason im getting a 187 is i only have around 100 bucks to spend.
-
well i Can't really find the right dimensions to accomplish that Hz. With a port that big. Perhaps since you have 2, you can do that?

I know from what I have read that I will get some great sound if done right. I also want to make sure My enclosure is right. With my power, should it be ported or totally enclosed? Thank you very much for your time.
