i purchased an SSD15 for my niece's car back in October i believe. built a nice ported enclosure around 3.5 cu/ft. i also installed a Kolossus Fleks 0 Gauge amp kit to an ASA800.2 powerbass amp. power at the amp was at 13.6 to 13.8 at full tilt. i also set the gain with a volt meter and tinkered with it by ear. i am no expert by any means, but i did a lot of reading on the subject of install to avoid any kind of clipping. anyways, i told her not to mess with the setting on the head unit. well, played around with her system several months later to find all the settings were jacked up, loud button on, bass boosted in the eq. changed anything back to where i had them originally and reminded her to not touch. besides, the speaker hit hard enough to give you a head ache at the proper settings. i get a call from her a week ago saying her speaker is making a horrible noise. so i take a look at it. i hear nothing but cracking and popping. i check all the settings and sure enough they are all jacked up again. now, i don't totally blame her for the settings being changed. she has a criminal thinking boyfriend that i would put money on is guilty. anyways, sorry about the rant. what i need to know is how to go about having the speaker reconed. do i order a kit from Fi and find someone locally to recone it or can i send it to Fi and have it done. thanks.

well, scrape that idea. not enough room in the well for the elbow. it wasn't correct, but was a cool idea....lol. i will port the front and use a 90 pointing up. i'll just make custom flares in the baffle and on the 90.

couple quick Iso drawings. these iso don't have my amp rack concept. Front view. sorry my plot got cut off. Back view

i'm doing this in an 02 cavalier. i thought about the 90. would there be a crazy sound issue porting the cabinet out the bottom then 90 into the spare tire well. would be the same as porting it on another baffle. something like this. horizontal section vertical section
-
how much room is needed from the back of the port to the back of the enclosure. using a 14.5" length puts the back of the port 1/4" off the back of the enclosure. is it a big deal if the ports are not in the baffle?
-
i knew something didn't look right or sound right. this is why i keep questioning myself. so, what would you suggest. my box measures 33.5"W x 17"H x 15.5"D. i have an 1.5" baffle.

nothing fancy. i have bass box pro and another excel sheet i play around with. looks like a 4"ID x 5.5" aero port will give me 65 sq.in.
-
don't have enough space to allow for the slot style port. i was looking at an aero port. the calculators i have been using say a single 4 incher would work.
-
is a single 4"ID x 5.5"L port enough for an SSD 15 in 3.5cu ft. the box will be tuned to 33. trying to finish up the details on my enclosure and i keep questioning this.

isobaric theory i believe. woofers can be face to face also. i have always wanted to do a push/pull design. heard one many years ago and loved it. http://www.danmarx.org/audioinnovation/theories.html

Fi SSA15, enclosure opinions and install questions
scameron posted a topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
the sub should be here within the week. it will be going in a 2002 cavalier. i have limits on the box, so i have come up with 36w x 17h x 13d with 2 3"ID ports tuning to 35hz. i read some where i could tune the box a little higher due to the fact i listen to a wide range of music. any truth?? sub will fire into the cab area. i have also read some where about sealing off the trunk. so, i would seal off the enclosure from the rest of the trunk and channel all the sound into the cab area?? any specifications on space needed in front of the woofer or ports?? -
my plan was to run a single 15 sealed in about 2.3cuft. i did some more measuring last night and i could maybe get 3cuft. i may have to rethink my amp mounting. so i narrowed it down to an Fi 15Q (will work if i go sealed), Fi 15SSA, (will not work sealed), and the DC level 3 15 (sealed or ported). my amp will run 800rms at 4ohm, 1600peak. i am interested in the level 3 15; it is the lowest rated sub in the group. are those numbers conservative? i did pm rusty. he said it would run fine at that level sealed. how are hard have those who own one pushed it? am i really losing much going sealed. i guess i am gun shy. thanks.

do the Fi SSD prices include shipping? also, will the SSD 15 be alright in my 2.3 cuft sealed? noticed a sealed enclosure wasn't listed for the SSD15.

I have about 2.3 cuft to work with, my amp will do 800rms bridged at 4ohm, and i have 200 bucks. i want to go with a single 15. i have been looking at DD audio, DC sound labs, Fi, soundstream, and mb quarts. i am not real familiar with DD, DC, or Fi. any suggestions. My listening preference is wide. At 2.3 cuft I may have to go sealed.
