Banned Amplifiers?
Shogen replied to MikeMartel's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
lol... Figures you'd be the one with the amp that is not allowed... :-P -
Which would you choose if you was wanting what I want with what I have? I def want good low bass also. Two SSDs will be easier to fit into the trunk and have more cone area. I've owned both and they are both excellent drivers. Thanks for the quick and helpful replys man. Would you reccomend ported or sealed box? I'm pretty sure sealed is for sound quality and ported is for loudness, but could have changed with how they make subs since then. Also my area literally has no car audio places and I need to find a box, built specifically for the subs. I'm sure their are some people reccomended on here? It was never that way....... people just assume that because they may have only read or saw something that had bad information or they assumed it was in a "show" car so it was just to be loud... You can get great sound out of ported... I had that with my 12" Icon.... Wish I would have kept it and bought a second and ported those.... lol... Now I have one 15" that requires almost as much space to do ported... lol

2 - 12" SSDs ported to whatever "low bass" you want would be great... I think they require less than 5.5 cubes which you're gonna have alot of ... Plus you won't "need" as much power... I'd say a good 1k would be enough and later on you could upgrade that for a bit more output....

An 18 in the trunk of a Altima? A fifteen is gonna be close to a stretch.. What are your "MAX" dimensions you're willing to give up as far as trunk space???

Amping Mids and Highs
Shogen replied to Pimp-Juice's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
sounds like a bad idea why is that? Im not disagreeing with you, im just curious why you say that. Unless you know what you're doing... Those are very hard things to "match" in sound.... And if you knew what you were doing then you probably wouldn't even think of that... A nice 2-way set should be more than sufficient.. If not, then maybe you can power the tweeters off the HU and the mids off the amplifier... But no 6x9 in the mix... Right now i have 5 1/4s in the front doors and 6x9s in the rear, there kicker components. If i amped them, would it make a difference? Lol im starting to see im more then a rookie when it comes to this stuff. Like stated... I'd say go with a good set and maybe forget the rears or use the HU to power the rears -

nice!! love the big plans!!! -
I thought the same thing I thought the same thing ew Lantz. well, do you ???
-
It can go however low you'd like .... Obviously you can't push it the same way as if it was tuned higher...Not sure what would happen to power handling or excursion issues? ... someone else may need to chime in there... But you have enough port area? Again someone else should chime in...
-
Can you just tune lower? Like say tune to 30hz and see where it models for peak? I'd think that should murder the lows but you might need some fill-in with the speakers of your front stage as the subwoofer won't be reaching the higher frequencies as much....
-
Less port? might do it... Not too sure.. I've modeled my Xcon and with a bigger box the peak is lower only by like 2hz though so not worth the size difference to me...
-
bigger box ??? But then you lose power handling...
-
They are in the top of the doors all of the way up front. I will be trying a few other locations as I go. Thanks! you ditched the passives yes???

looks great!

Plump booties make my mouth water.... not sure if it's an allergic reaction though?lol

Last time I didn't that is one reason why I had to redo them. I think I'm going to use plasti dip unless someone else has a better suggestion. I was also gonna ask if you used that... lol Plasti-dip seems like a winner for alot these days...
