Jonathan's 1994 Camry Wagon build. | Video(s) on page 22!
Shogen replied to swagger_wagon468's topic in Build Logs
You could match the gain on the amp(s) so your head unit would play loudest without distortion at it's max volume. Assuming all speakers are being ran off amps and not head unit power. right? but then volume might be too low at normal listening volume? not sure if that is the reasoning for most tutorials suggestions 3/4 volume when adjusting gains.... I could be wrong though.. -

Voltage drop at idle.
Shogen replied to SentraGuy's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
^^ this... I have a hard time resisting the urge for max volume at idle, I do it quite often... Usually when I'm stuck in traffic to or from work which happens pretty much everyday... I haven't addressed my voltage drop yet but I'm looking to get a better alt from DC Power and add a very small Kinetik in the back near the amps for so reserve since I know I can't go easy on the volume when I'm alone in my car..lulz -
That does insulate the wire tip from fray and oxidation a bit, but I think putting tin on the wire doesn't help with conducting electricity.. Safer to just insert the bare wire, but to be honest I always use a spade connector so that the wire doesn't fray... I have a rotary tool so if it doesn't fit right I slim it down a bit, or sanding it can help too...

Voltage drop at idle.
Shogen replied to SentraGuy's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
nah shouldn't cause trouble, but having better voltage doesn't hurt none either.. I'd probably just look into a second battery if anything, helps a bit and much much cheaper... smaller XS Power or Kinetik would do fine in the area closest to amps... -
^ this .... Soldering it would make it more permanent and possibly cause more badd than good...

Sealed 12" Icon or Ported 10" Icon?
Shogen replied to bmr4life's topic in Sound Solutions Audio (SSA®)
I vote for 10" ported, get some trunk space and would sound better than choking up a 12" woofer. -
you should email Rob or Kyle directly... then let us know what happens..

Bump because I feel like they might and its just not listed on their site. Hopefully that's the case.

I personally love JL Audio, but I didn't have the heart to not give SSA my money... Lovely bunch , small and close relationships that make it more enjoyable. I can get a JL woofer for the price of a SSA but I'm hoping that I will love the SSA as much as I did JL. My woofers were 8yrs old and they only gave out because I put a stronger amp and didn't adjust SSF properly before bumping it cuz I was sooo excited..lol ... Idiot I am, but I love my Icon so far and I'd say you're golden with either company. Both are solid and well made, I'd give SSA the chance to rival the quality of JL any day..... But I'm just cool like that...

why do people hate on optima yellow tops
Shogen replied to armyranger3858's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I was always told to get Optimas but for the money I ended up with Kinetik and it has been pretty good so far. My weak point right now is my alternator, can't reserve power if it isn't being made... My 80a max stock is not doing my Kinetik any justice. I think even after I get my DC Power alternator, I will get a Kinetik for the rear to supply a constant to the amplifiers... -
Welcome sir! You can re-do my system in Jersey. Yay!!!!
