Danny, Some of that depends on how you define "outside noise". If you mean noise that doesn't come directly from your vehicle or its interaction with the environment, doors would be first since they let in most traffic noise. That leaves noises generated by the vehicle - engine, exhaust and its interaction with the environment - tire/wheel and wind, maybe rain too. Engine, exhaust and tire/wheel noise are complicated. The firewall and floor are where they penetrate, but not exactly as we tend to think. Engine and exhaust noise do hit the passenger compartment in a direct line, but they also reflect off the pavement, meaning they even enter through areas from which you can't draw a straight line back to the source. Tire noise is especially interesting. Most of us think that most of it comes in through the wheel wells. That's led to all sorts of exterior treatments that are supposed to avoid the complication of getting to the interior surface of the floor. It seldom makes an audible difference. The important point is that tire noise starts at the contact patch with the pavement and radiates up in every direction from there. A lot of the sound that would otherwise pass through the wheel well is blocked by the tire and wheel. The reality is that tire noise enters through most of the floor. Specifically on the "noise reflection from pavement".. I was tempted to look more into adding Cascade to the outside of my vehicle, under carriage areas that were as flat and had seams joining them together... Basically it is like Second Skin's sludge but a little thinner which could be applied by aerosol and was able to withstand the elements of outside qualities... This was the idea that adding mass to the outside panels would seemingly "deflect" alot of the road noises and sounds similar coming from random directions which could not be measured or tested specifically... Some reported improvements which provided no audible increase in audio equipment but neutralized the added environment noise more than just adding MLV to the floor panels... True or not I cannot confirm, but it could be possible... Anything truth to it? Would it be a waste of labor and money to try this theory out?

lol... My first system was my brother's had me downs.. He had 2-10" JL W3 in a bandpass enclosure powered by a 600w Kenwood amp and some shitty old Pioneer HU with a 3 disc CD changer... First thing I did was buy a second hand Alpine HU and purchased some old school Kenwood component set for the front and did some 6.5" Pioneer coaxials in the rear... The rears were powered off the Kenwood I still have today which is still pumping juice for my current setup... It was loud enough for me to get a "Careless Driving" ticket in the town over from where I lived...

The "button" would mean some code modification. Mark will check into it once he is settled. He is moving across the country at the moment. NP... He'll be in my neck of the woods now... Yippee!!!

I know it's been asked bfore but to start off the thread.. Don, What is the best way to keep outside noise from entering the cabin? Which should come first, doors, roof, floors, wheel wells from outside? Is this all vehicle dependent? Thanks -Danny

If you don't feel comfortable.. Yes.. But it shouldn't be too hard.. The alternator stud is usually visible from up top in the engine bay and just needs to make it's way over to the positive of the battery. The battery negative needs to get to a chassis mount point, pretty much anywhere that is connected to the frame or the frame itself if possible. Sand down any paint on the frame areas. That is as far I have gotten on my BIG 2... lol

Awesome specs and review.

Loving the response rate and the heavy hitters joining the conversation. Thank you all who have participated, I kind of figured the reorganization part might not meet well with the community and thought I'd see for real. The general seem to like the idea if a notification to close the thread "button" quite a bit. Is this something that could be tried and tested? -Danny

Gotcha, it didnt seem like splitting was as needed as I thought. I just hope that people who sell can spend the extra second it takes to PM a mod to close the thread.

I had a similar accident. Driving my 98 sentra. Was going about 15mph on a slight curved road which I didn't realize had not been salted at all so there was ice under the newly fallen snow. Here is stupid part number one, I had my 17 enkei rims on the rear with some low profile kuhmo tires and just stock on front. Don't know why though. So the road curves and eventually there is a fork in the road separated by a little island of grass and trees which has a curb about 8 inches high. So I feel my car slide and try to correct the angle but I turned too quickly so the car slowly begins to pick up momentum while it starts to spin. I end up doing almost a 360 towards that island which where I headed was shaped like a V. Here is stupid part number two A split second before that I release my seatbelt and lean towards the passenger side window which was headed toward that V shaped curb. Here is stupid part number three, I turn to my left and open my drivers side door and get out, car still sliding. About a second later the car hits the curb. My front tire the stock one was bent and the shock absorber, arm, brake calipers, andpart of the tire rod broke off. My rear right rim, the enkei one broke in half and busted the mounting assembly for the wheels. WTF!! Repair cost me my first 4 checks from my new job. This was like 6 years ago.

Honesty is always the best policy. Thank you for being soooo honest Don. It makes us all feel better when an owner can just say "Hey, I fudged up. Sorry."

Well that was my original idea to have less clutter with sub categories... but it seems like it might be something everyone wants... The button is magical though...

Well it will help with the random posts of "is this still available" when the person is just too lazy to read.. Meade has dealt with this as well and many others I'm pretty sure..

My car did the same thing when I had disconnected the alternator for more than 20 minutes... It goes away after about 20min of idle and like 15min of some driving around... From what I understood the car is relearning since it lost power for so long... I believe that is what Kyle told me.. I drive a 2003 Toyota Camry... 4 cylinder. -
So you made out with who? Cuz I'm down for the cause...
