I've had an old Ibanez bass for nearly 20 years. Quality isn't good enough to claim I own it...but after some tinkering I have it setup so the action is good and it is super playable. Add some good pickups and it would be an over performer, but still lackluster. I picked up a Taylor 814ce and a Takamine for the boys. Probably going to shop for a Les Paul or the like here fairly soon as I'd like a locked tremelo. Wish I would have bought my Jackson that way actually.

You are missing one monstrously critical step. You are NOT measuring output of what is being measured. How do you then choose your "settings" and why? Think, don't egurgitate. It will make you question a bunch of what MECP has "taught" you and that is a great thing.

Clean carbs, test compression, do all the maintenance that hasn't been done. Tons of things make motors smoke. Usually easy to fix. I thought you knew it needed pistons. If so there is NO bandaid. If the carbs are just fucked from ethanol or crappy gas you can try some mechanic in a bottle, but I'd want to know the condition of the motor period.

That's nonsense without adding a frequency... Sorry, determine space meant IB, location, aiming...a ported enclosure is by far the easiest way to get any driver to dig. Also hard up front. Regularly a small sub playing up front with a rather limited frequency range is the key to midbass. To put my comment above in context. If you want the midbass to keep up at 50Hz with the SP4's output at 20Hz you have your work cut out for you. Absolutely ported sub with small range. If it is okay if the sub plays up to 160Hz it is a completely different ball game. Single driver shopping without purpose in a 3 way system completely comprises the other 2 drivers.

You can tune nanotubes to a variety of frequencies. If you want them to absorb a passband that is Ka friendly that is a cool idea. I've done a crap ton of measurements on nanotubes...but mostly in the development stage and not so often in application which is sad. Are there not formulas that characterize the absorbance? At the same time, is there not a specification on the gun that describes the intensity of the return? I personally would go through the theoretical calculations before the experimental. Nothing wrong with the experimental...but it is costly and time consuming and usually a better verification/improvement on the theory. Also possible that companies are hush on the devices, but I somehow doubt that.

Spray on stuff is not really effective at hardly anything. 3/4" thick MLV ought to be ridiculous heavy and good...but I've never seen that. To stop sound you need mass. To stop panels from making sound you need energy absorption. To stop transmission of sound from one spot to another cannot be generalized, nor is it easy. That I make a ton of money on each and every year off all the OE's helping them to optimize. Just the measurements alone to get there though are well over $10k.

MECP has all sorts of useless information. Cleanest is a farce. Train your damn ears. The variation in the recordings you MUST account making any measurement tool COMPLETELY useless.

SPL drivers have REALLY narrow frequency range so they don't dare post them. Rockford is smart engouh to realize they sound like crap.
