  1. Spend some time with the EQ taming the cone breakup and listening for where and what it does. It will be enlightening as well. In an 8" driver it is hard to beat the SLS bang for the buck. After that it is space that determines things as always.
  2. If you run a full ranger, there is no reason for having a midbass that plays any midrange. Since you have the 3's you should figure out how low they can go in your installation. This will help you narrow down the midbass.
  3. And that is what I don't like the Dayton's for. They aren't good at being midbasses. Ultra detailed for a 7 in particular in their price category but they give up the lows to do the upper end. And of course the cone breakup is awful and nasty on them. The 7 to me just makes no sense. Not big enough to do anything on the bottom and not small enough to really be a midrange. Sort of an in betweener that compromises where I wouldn't. I played with a set for a week or two trying to make them work and instead they sit in my basement in their shipping box. A ported enclosure goes a REALLY long way in helping them, but personally there are a ton of other drivers in that category I would rather run. The 225 is significantly better in this regard, but still not enough so to be a worthwhile buy. This of course is further compounded by the fact that if you want to use these passive they require seriously expensive crossovers and a rather adept designer. Active they are much better off though.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

2010 came with an L9H. Some are boosting with the VVT, no idea on the deactivation. Would prefer if neither existed. I don't pay for my gas so there is only a negative and no positive in having them. Have no idea what that means for the ECU though.Seth said they used a phaser, so that would need to locked in place or removed and locked, so look for something of that nature. Since you know who the tuner is, you should be able to call them, provide a VIN, and get all the tuning information. FWIW most phasers use a lock pin to prevent phaser slap, or chain damage in the event of failure... and to reduce excessive emissions obviously. Most manufacturers disengage this pin with oil pressure by opening a galley with the solenoid at the same time as the phasing of the cam. Some work backwards of this, though. I think GM locks the cam retarded and disengages the pin and opens the phaser when cam advance is requested. I have seen the 6 liter motor with the cam phasers lose oil pressure, and watching the cam timing PID would indicate the cam being locked retarded naturally. So are you saying a tuner would just hard pin this then?

Looks nice. Was hoping they'd do more on the back end too, but has potential. http://autos.yahoo.com/photos/the-new-2015-ford-mustang-1386218348-slideshow/

Obviously if a full motor was bought it won't be there. If an LSX was built with the L76 head then it shouldn't be either. Hopefully I will find out today.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

I don't know any details really yet besides the web page. Considering the dealer knows the builder I asked him to stop by and get the paperwork on the truck. From what I can garner, as long as it is tuned and kept cool the tranny should be ok. I would feel WAY better if it is a Circle D build or the like though. My only other concern is they stroked the stock block to get to 427 and then added boost. Knowing if LSx means LSwhatever or if LSX is the Iron beefy block make a difference. Not as excited if it is an LS7. He didn't cut corners on buying a grill, wheels, adding rear seat entertainment and such. GUy that buys a new AMG as well probably was more concerned about reliability than a few thousand bucks too. Dying to know if cylinder deactivation and VVT are still on the truck. If not, I assume there is an additional engine controller??

6l80 with a good tune handle 575 awd wheel hp? Bummed my build list isn't coming until tomorrow although part of me wants to have my own built, just hoping this guy didn't cut the corners that I would.
  13. The Dayton's you have on order are better than any mid I've ever seen in a comp set under $2k. Still not my favorite driver, but nonetheless that holds true. Once you have your ears trained though you will better be able to determine what you like and what is lacking and then either adjust drivers or settings accordingly. One key is to separate everything out and listen.

Still waiting for the build sheets. Should probably assume that means it isn't as expected which would be par for the course. Have texted back and forth though so perhaps it is just busy. Was out and about and has to get back to scan them.

  16. 88 > 85 Easy to see, bigger number And Alton, why would using your ears SCIENTIFICALLY be a bad thing? The area where this goes to hell in a handbasket is when the sample size and technique is crap, ala the Blues crew. False conclusions are awful, but you are setting things up how YOU want them and actually doing real comparisons that are giving you insight all while training your ears. All good to me.

  19. Was wondering when you'd realize the Fountek's are by far the winners of that group. The Aura's need a tweeter, but can be mated with the uber cheap Dayton ND20 or variant, Faital is better at building a different size of driver for a different application but your feelings are pretty spot on. Their distortion profile is also such that even at equal volumes they will sound louder than they are. I would add one comment though. You should really compare them all with optimized eq settings, not the same. Not really fair if by default your settings favored one driver or the other. And by having it flat, it would definitely favor the Fountek. Either way, that exercise would require you to find what you feel is optimal and then save those settings to switch. A lot of work, but I think your results will be closer if you do.

    Crossover??

You will need 2 minidsp's. ipad to minidsp's to line driver to amplifier. Probably $230 for the mini's and another $150+ for the line driver. An active capable headunit that will control the mini (if there is such a thing) would probably be a better solution. Not to mention you still need a different set of drivers since what you have will not really play together.

    Crossover??

It is and the output isn't so stellar. BTW, you could buy a Nexus tablet and USB audio source for less than the price of the streamer. Would work better in a permanent install too as they have 1sec boot roms. On top of the miniDSP you will need a 3 channel line driver.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Impact. Otherwise I leave the engine on the vehicle and crank it with the ratchet/socket on the crank and wedged to prevent them from turning. The starter torque will pop the bolt. They look exceptionally clean. But plugs tell me more than the pistons do. Can't see wash on the plugs though. Plugs look healthy, I've just never yanked the head on a 2 stroke sled before.

    Crossover??

Can it run a USB Sound Card? Anyway to hack it for boot time? Can you plug in other USB things and have it plugged in? *looked at Apple stuff a while ago so perhaps they can and if so there are tons more options. If not, then you are going to need a processor and a rather exotic one or else you will need new drivers as the PWX and FT1 don't really play nice together.

    Crossover??

SO much easier with a Nexus if you haven't opened the mini up yet.
