But unless I am really looking for a shallow DOF I prefer using the 17-55.

I hAve a 50mm (35 mm with crop factor) 1.8 and it's great for shooting people and low light situations. He already has a 50mm 1.2....

16mm is not nice for portraits. Lightroom can "correct" the distortion but buying a wide to shoot people isn't logical at all. Much better to have a normal zoom for that. Exactly why they make the 17-55 for crop and the 24-70 for FF.
  10. I wouldn't run a Crescendo if someone gave it to me. Any brand that promotes something as idiotic as the FT1 I couldn't have in anything I own.
  11. If you aren't going to install more subs don't bother with any of it.

What about a unipod? If your not using a timer it may be the best option as they can fold up smaller and be more user friendly in smaller spots. J Unipods are functionally useless IMO

This will be a learning experience, as sharpness is really the last thing that comes into play for most portraits. Get the eyes sharp and then the softness fall off is usually flattering. Than again, the 70-200 has no soft spots other than bokeh. Fucking magic lens. And what normally makes portraits great makes landscapes suck.

I NEVER have a tripod.Me neither, but I'd carry one way before I'd carry everthing else you are. I'm going to "work" on this trip though. :-) Video and a tripod is HUGE. Let me know which carbon fiber one you decide on as I need one too.

As for the narrow DOF and wide angle, sure, but really once you get an ultra wide and you are carrying other lenses it will become your landscape, buliding, interior lens. Then "fast" glass isn't as important as sitting still and getting the light you need. In Italy they will shun tripods inside many places. You then get to compromise. The Tokina 11-16 is NOT IS so a panorama with a faster lens may be good but then you lose your DOF so who knows. I find you need F11/13 for most building shots otherwise they get really soft in all the wrong places.

You can have a lot of fun with a narrow DOF and wide angle. It's more cinema usually from what I have been watching, but I have been pouring over pictures. You know, over examination of a simple problem. :-) Always trying to minimize cost, maximize results, and also not end up wishing I would have done something different. I'm the same. Equation ALWAYS ends the same though. The only sure bet is used since you can get your $$ back. I bought my wide for when I went to Scandinavia. My family is originally from Bergen and I wanted to remember the trip.

    The B'more Bass Machine

I live in the Western burbs, almost grew up in NW MN - Moorhead. Rip through TRF on my sled every winter though.
  20. Took about 3 seconds to find this http://www.caraudio.com/forums/amplifier-classifieds/598577-fs-jl-audio-500-1v2.html *I don't know the seller and that place sucks donkey but bet in 10 minutes you could find plenty of options that are better buys than a new amp

    The B'more Bass Machine

Figured military from the shift...not Digikey or Cat. Curious that you picked the only county in MN without a lake...considering they are one of the major reasons to live here. Good to have AWD up there though.

Wiide you normally want deep dof. Barrel distortion makes them not people lenses in general

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Grab a used 17-55 and consider it wide enough. Once you have both cameras it will be what you want on the a second all the time anyways

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Why wide and low light? Get a tripod.... Then on top buy used and sell when you upgrade. Crop will approach and then pass ff at some point....although that crop will take different lenses.
