Tiny, but nice and stock. Really wish I could find a 4:3 screen, but as long as what I put in doesn't require me to cut the stock locations I'll be happy as that means it'll be easy to change down the road. In particular since the wood base is so easy to fab and change.

Need some ideas on smoothing the transition between the screen and the wood. Will be supported from the rear, but have to do something to give it shape. Hoping the form of the screen is nice enough I can just rout out a support for it, if not glue and wood powder was what I thought I'd bondo with. Will be painted or wrapped or something as well.

I really don't want to have to have a bunch of buttons. Figure with Windows 8 and multitouch I won't need any since the three finger swipe is enough.
-
Nearly exactly the size of the opening. Screen is only $45 too and has full retina resolution. Just no fucking reliable touch panels for it.
-
Still would much rather have the 10" Ipad screen as it is shorter and fatter.
-
And the X was pointless, was going to overlay both screens on the same cardboard but I'd rather buy from a more reputable brand that gives me FULL drawings and details of dimensions than just partial. Plus Malaysia >> China for shit like this.

And yeah, I know I only mounted the stock mount on one side. I won't be using any of that structure in the final assembly, but wanted to know what it might look like before I bought a screen. Computer, power supply, miniDSP all will EASILY fit behind it as well

Well here is where I stop until Chalk Elec releases their screen in a week or two. My options are: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=201114112102&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123 ...which is slightly shorter (6mm) than this which is currently worst case: Just a 10 minute mock up to see how things would lay up. The wood fixture is just a copy of the stock radio bezel so I could see if I could use the stock mounts and cut nothing. Unless the display is thick, it looks like a win. The only weird part will be that the lower portion will have a bezel on the screen and the upper tucked right into the factory cover but there just isn't 4:3 screen with a capacitive panel and until that occurs this will have to do. The outline on the cardboard shows the bezel versus the screen itself.

Tones can help describe what frequencies, but first listening to music and then the tone will help. In this case I'd just settle for a description of what instrument or what part of what sound starts to get funny. Would help to have a somewhat known song that could be also listened to at the same point. Being output challenged brings further compromises. More output = less coverage of the frequency range. The only exception is in adding complexity. At the same time, if you can't determine where or what is lacking in output then you aren't lacking in output...

Crap, hope the month goes fast.

Exactly why a month ago I asked to listen to the drivers independently. That makes it easy to hear. If it doesn't then it is time to guess at a solution, but the problem with the guess is you get more midrange or midbass not both.
-
Took me about 20min to yank the motor, but it did require a friend to lift the car over it.
-
Beetles are SUPER easy to build. Easiest car ever IMO
-
T/A will compensate somewhat for spacing differences between the drivers. While spacing is related to phase, phase is also determined by wavelength which is obviously not a constant throughout the frequency range. Again, you need to simplify this. Listen to only ONE driver. ie, Left mid with no sub, no tweet etc. Until you do that you will not understand where what falls on its face.

When I built my beetle I didn't have a wiring harness. Was going to buy one then realized that outside of the lights and ignition I wasn't using any of the wires in it. Built my own and it was WAY cleaner.

Malaysia Teh Tarek. Drank a bunch of that a few weeks ago.

You could do it with a laptop to stream Pandora into VLC which would "broadcast" it on the home network then use a pi with wifi that automatically plays the stream whenever it's playing. Some of the home receivers can stream Pandora too, but not sure if they let you control it via android/ios. Pull some wires and grab a squeezebox, throw the Apple shit away.

If I went big I'd have to make it removeable and then it'd have to be a tablet. I want everything embedded.
-
12" is too big too. While I can make it fit, I'd have to cut up the stock bezel and fab something. Here it is scaled about how it would be: While it is cool and all I think one that fits in the bezel near perfect would be the best.

Perhaps this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/TV-HDMI-VGA-AV-USB-AUDIO-Driver-Board-KITS-for-9-7inch-1024-768-IPS-LCD-LP097X02-/400582056033?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item5d448d1861 + this: http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/1780778.pdf

Pull some wires. Wireless blows. December of 08 I pulled more than 3000' of wire in my house. BEST thing I've ever done to it.

I can't fit 11" Ok, I can, but it fucks up a bunch of other stuff and makes the install take WAY longer and look way less stock. And of course, the 9.7" solution I thought I had I just found out does not include the touch screen portion. Just a dead screen. Aargh! I hate car audio. Have you looked at the win8 tablets from Dell, Toshiba, HP, Lenovo, etc? They have quite a few at 10" and under, and they're all capacitive screens. Though none have 4g lte so I you'd probably need a gps dongle and extra hdd / sd card. http://www.dell.com/us/p/dell-venue-8-pro/pd http://shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Tablets/Omni/F4C56UA;pgid=yIhwj1CwBjhSRpG65rN24fwJ0000B_hd4IlF;sid=2vte3nigrpJd3isU1ldCU6CvXXcUH0gP5m-zjzlLXXcUH-547dvJySxz?HP-Omni-10&&rwCategory=-&rwCatalog=- http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/tablets/ideatab/miix-series/miix-2/ http://www.toshiba.com/us/tablets/encore/8/64gb An 8" screen will look teeny in my dash. Trying to decide if I can deal with a resistive...and if any resistive can do multitouch. Really only want 2 finger scrolling & pinch.
-
Resistive bullshit http://lilliput.gmc.globalmarket.com/products/details/new-9-7-1024-768-and-5-wire-resistive-touch-monitor-1633529.html I REALLY want capacitive as the multitouch saves me from needing a start button and allows alt+tab from the screen which is huge. Sure I can add buttons, but that is lame in comparison.

Hey, at least they'll be home in time for the 4th of July. I guess there is a bright side, beyond Tim Howard. We played great for about 15 min. Had they played anywhere near that level during regulation we could've won... We lost in the transition game...but that is also our strength on offense. To me the bright spot was we were competitive, albeit slightly over matched individually but the team play was brilliant at times.

Yep, must have pretty much.
