    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

I might have something for you. Let me go measure depth. Is that your new pick up line? He doesn't want to break her

Almost brings into play Jared's economic question on painting his car. "Can" of course. Being carpet is on both sides and such I figure by the time I am done and buy woofers it may be less cost effective than buying regrettably.

There are a few that fit, but I bet my mids play bass as well as they do. Wouldn't the under seat sub reinforce what's already there? Close proximity too, with the added bonus of not bumping out kiddos. More sound displacement is more sound displacement.small excursion small box low SD doesn't do well for lfeI didn't realize you were going for so much impact. Is there no physical way a sub that shallow can still produce 30hz sufficiently? What's the limiting factor in the design? Is there a company that pushes the design to the edge of the limiting factor? It isn't impact but balance. I don't want to have to have 3 processor setups for different listening volumes. The next portion is flexibility. I can surely have the mids do more work, but then they get funky at reference levels. Limiting factor is Sd & excursion of course assuming the rest of the parameters let you use the excursion. On a normal day the sub won't do much. Doesn't mean I won't appreciate it. The rest of the truck is over the top...makes me think wimping out on the subs isn't right. I also lose flexibility if I do which I don't like. In particular since everything else in the truck is so flexible. Hell I already have an extra MiniDSP for the sub/s as well.

Don't shy from mainstream. You have to learn to listen and you can't buy for your ears without doing both. You need a reference point. Until you can complain about what a certain set does you won't be able to pick a set that doesn't do that. I didn't even realize Focal's were in your list. I don't care about your list. It is pointless. The only way to make it meaningful is to list what you've heard and what you like or don't like about them. Until then the only information you'll get on a forum are from people with internet-boners that only preach to buy what they have installed. Personally I'd like a bigger choice pool than that. You could be worse and be like me and just buy one of everything you haven't heard... Don't limit your listening to car stereo shops either. Just go critically listen to music at music stores. Figure out what YOU like. If you are really in a rush to buy something then shop Craigslist or buy something you can swap out later and not lose a crap ton of money on. And read this next sentence over at least 10 times: A $100 component set in a proper install will sound WAY better than a $5000 component set just bolted in the doors in the stock location. Until you comprehend that your shopping is futile. As for my rig, it has all home audio drivers in it run passive. Seas U18 doors, Scan-speak D2904 pillars. The installation was just something I threw in last week while re-wiring everything for a carputer to control the ECU with HP Tuners. Long term not sure what I'll do, but I like using things out of the audio closet. This was the 7's I had to choose from in the closet... Remember the more exotic the cone the harder the eq work. Install is WAY important. If you bolt ANY mid direct to your door like they did in the factory they will sound like shit. A simple baffle and a real driver and the Escalade has more bass with just my "components" than it did with the Bose sub. And yes, currently I am running sub-less, but I listen mostly to live music and an awful lot of Jazz. Bass to me is related to an instrument with a very clever name, the Bass.

Exactly why I want to run an SSA woofer though. I debadge my shit generally, but two subs tucked in the rear window with the right name is acceptable to me.

If I could get funky pup dustcaps for the JL's I'd pay extra. They will be so visible it'd be sweet.

JL Box is more than adequate for my needs, just retardedly expensive Graphs are at full RMS. To be fair the wimpy JL's are beyond their Xmax on the really low end, but not far enough to be damaged. The Rlp could actually take some more power to equalize things....but I don't have more power so I didn't bother showing it that way. They also have ZERO processing on those signals which you know I'll knock the levels down to make them how I want them.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Thanks for looking. My other option is to stay subless...but then I need to put 8's in the doors and build some full rangers up top. Don't have time for that shit right now. I may be completely out of my mind here, but what about 2-4 6" subwoofers under the seats? Since all you want is the sound, they may work out. J Was actually thinking of using the rear doors as sub enclosures....but I also have wire leads there and easily could still allow the kids to watch something in the backseat and listen to it while I am listening to something else in the front. Bolting in an enclosure in an hour and driving away is appealing.

The JL Stealthbox is a wall. Separates the back of the window from the front. I think it is actually a 4th order BP wall too. At least it hits like it Yo!

Without jumping too far off topic, what don't you like about Focal? I like the towers I heard, except for the fact that the highs seemed a little too pronounced for my liking. They hurt my ears. But I absolutely hate ALL car audio component sets. Can't say I've heard one worth a damn. My build tastes and the norm aren't coincident however.

The install is more important than the drivers. As for drivers, you always need to reference what you like. For instance some people love Focal's, I fucking hate them. Exceptions to any rule of course. If you have no basis of comparison then you might as well grasp a straw and go with it, use them as your learning pair.

Thank you Sean, for taking the time to explain everything you have. I gained a ton of knowledge. I was trying to find a softer, easier way but there isn't one.Looks like I will be tearing it down to find the cam specs. Will go from there. Don't call it explaining, just my perception which may be wrong. I am not confident I know what I am doing yet, but always tryto simplify things to what I know.

More power and eq may solve that, but I'll only get power by upping my input voltage

With all that rear space behind the seat it either means console or there. Console I "could" fit a wimpy 8 or I could move electronics elsewhere and fit my SoundSplinter Rli 8 but I'd rather lose no storage and do something like that. I really wish I could see one in person though before buying as I am still frightened it'll be crap. The JL portion gives me confidence it won't be utter shit, but still....

My biggest problem is paying $900 for the enclosure and subs. I am sure that it will be sellable for $400+ down the road, but it hurts to buy such chinsy subs for so much dough. The location and integration is somewhat perfect though

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Any 10" sub with a less than 4.75" mounting depth that you'd rather own than JL 10w1v3's? And yes, I don't really want those either but from an output perspective they will be nearly an equal to the SS RLp I ran sealed in my old truck so they will do what I need. 1.3cuft is the shared volume for the pair... Yes, stupid Stealthbox. Really wish Dcon's fit. Not that I can buy the Stealthbox unloaded, but I figure I'd try a local dealer and see. And yes any sub really will be fine if the w1's work, I know....just would prefer to not have JL's lol.
