Cabin gain is also constant. Curious, have you tried just venting into your trunk? Ie, just removing the rear speakers so the bass has a direct path without having to go through material? It takes mass to stop a low frequency acoustic wave. This means if you have no mass in the way nothing will really be blocked. Of course at some point there is different loading in your trunk which will change the sensitivity in different regions, but it is also something you can eq to your liking. Just beware. You may LOSE output by sealing off your trunk and forward firing. You also may gain. Just don't do this thinking it is an end all as that is flat out wrong. It is very dependent on the car as well. Certain ones respond much better to different aimings.

Your gut is confused. A note by definition is at A frequency. This means no matter which way your box points the note will still be at EXACTLY THE SAME frequency. Won't be higher, won't be lower. If that is why you are sealing your trunk you should rethink your goals/plans.

Only real reason not to is to not cut the stock wires or if you need more, ie running active and needing 2 pairs instead of a single. I also have to say I don't understand not running active....which means running new wires.
