Need help with my single cab ranger console box
///M5 replied to Brad Barcia's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
Tons of 10s would be happy in that volume. Buying ones geared towards a sealed enclosure would be better than the sd's. Do realize that will be like a single 10 ported. Also if the enclosure isn't great it would defeat the purpose so definitely ask for pics and post them -
I'd be afraid of the tire cost when I found a pothole. Already $600 deep in tires already this year!$2400 here not counting wheels
-
I'd figure out the space first, then start thinking of what to put in it.

I haven't seen a sub-$300 sound card have a matched phase response. Need both channels synced completely if you truly want to measure delay. Hell if you could just find a card that had a known delay you could compensate but they typically have a response curve and many aren't even repeatable. USB mics are pathetic and useless as well and surely can't be used. A real mic taken into a real sound card could have enough resolution for you to measure time response. I used to sell a lower cost analyzer capable of doing that, but it was still over $8000. There are definitely much cheaper ways on the market, but I have a large stock of analyzers that make that 8k one look like a kids toy, so I haven't spent anytime looking for a cost effective solution lately. I am sure there are some, but don't expect it to be that easy. Measuring frequency response is relatively easy however. I assume that is what REW does. If it does anything in time I'd like to see how it calibrates the phase before I'd trust any of it. -

8" woofers run alone in a ported enclosure are always dumb. I've never seen an exception. -

IB. To be fair 50hz was more common if I wanted reference level listening, but for my normal commute 40 was better.

A ported 8 in a proper box takes more space than a sealed 12 and won't do as well.... -

You need to "measure" the full path. ie, from the tweeter off the reflecting surface and to your ear. I personally prefer to do an acoustic measurement instead of a distance measurement, but am not sure if there is any freeware that would let you do that. Need software that will measure in the time domain and be able to play some sort of impulse while being time/phase synced. Most sound cards and not phase consistent across the frequency range and while I've never tested I'd bet phones are even worse. -
I ran mine down to 40...

.47 wasn't retail. Aeroports do no magic, just smooth out the moving air nicely which allows for a slightly smaller opening. -

I'd prefer not to, but regularly the other compromises can be worse. Like an ugly ass dashmat -
Sounds like a mounting difficulty. Real easy to get the bottom end to sound good in that truck btw

While I am doing pretty decently in school (3.75 gpa), I'm finding myself missing work. Finding anything that isn't an hr away, has a flexible schedule, and pays at least semi decently is rare. Found something workin with the Student Veterans Associate at my last campus. Pay is low, but it's flexible and will cover a bit of what I need to get handled. Now just to figure out everything with the kiddo and her mom. J If I had a good idea, I'd do it. I'm ready for the next step in my life.

Not familiar with your car, but a bounce path of the windshield is pretty normal. Time align the left together alone, then the right, then pair them up. As for the headunit splitting the usb, you can surely try. I don't think the minidsp requires that much power....but all that being said you should have bought the DC power source from minidsp for $10 as it will prevent turn on thump. If you mean powering that it is simply done just off an accessory switched source. -
I'm just trying to show you the rational that led to why I did what I did. I'm always looking to be more efficient. You calculated rudimentary work. Work & weight/size loss are not completely coincident. The rate and change of rate could have a bigger influence. I am not saying you are wrong with any of your comments as I generally know jack shit about this from a scientific perspective, but wanted to highlight you forgot time in the equation which is extremely critical.

47??? or 1.47? The latter is inline with what I filled up last week, but yikes! How was the snow in Houghton? I'm itching to ride!! Not sure if it is worth towing the trailer that far though. -
Best ported 12 for small space? Xcon maybe?

Mock up the box. Link doesn't show us what kind of room you'd have. Without knowing EXACTLY how big the box can be you cannot even begin to shop for a sub. -
I do have one on my team too. For some reason my boss has him as untouchable. Boo. He should be shit canned.
-
I should clarify it isn't my team that is shitting the bed, but the rest. Somehow, like usual, I get to be the psychiatrist to clean everything up even that I am not responsible for. I'll pretty much do anything that helps the company, but I am sick of whiny bitches.
