LOL. I hate staying in hotels like that
-
I hate the garage clean part, I just did that myself . How does it sound and how much did you use?
-
Oh, I'd probably make a new grill as it will be the slickest option, but they will sound just fine inverted.

Not quite sure I understand you question, so this might answer it. Both are sinusoidal waves with 360 degrees of phase. By summing the sinusoidal waves you can make any waveshape that your speaker plays back including square waves--just like a voltage wave. To simplify my description above, think of using a test CD with just a 1kHz test tone on it and that it will be coming from not just the center of the cone but the whole cone surface. With a sine wave (voltage) driving the speaker it creates a disturbance in the air and makes a acoustic wave if you imagine you are playing a sine tone on infinite repeat from anyone spot on the speaker it will go through a full 360 degrees before repeating itself. Since the speaker cone isn't flat there will be a different distance to a target (mic) from each different spot on the cone so the wave will arrive at a different times. Since there is a little delay and the frequencies were created at the same time it will have to arrive at a different spot in the phase of the wave..

Man I am too hungover to do anything...argh.

As I said in my previous post it will be inaudible, especially in a car but if by shape of the cone you mean angle or surface features it would only cause a little phase shift. It is sort of the same problem you have if you move your tweeter and mid a ways away from each other only it is happening on a much smaller scale. If your cone has enough of a slant to give you say a 1" difference the sound wave propagating from that spot on the cone will have a 1" headstart or have a 1" phase difference than a wave propagating from the center of the speaker. At a frequency with a wavelength of 36" it would be a 10 degree phase difference, on a frequency with a wavelength of 2" it would be a 180 degree phase difference and so on. Of course this was simplified for the example as sound waves will travel in all directions and as it propogates from its point source and there will be interference from all of the waves, but again your not going to hear this.

That is what I need this morning to make the ringing go away!

It is sort of like cutting a circle....

I gotta run, buddy of mine is returning his leased car tomorrow and said if I put in his stock speakers back in and brought dinner I could have his Boston's. He thinks they are Pro6.5 coax's, not sure but will find out. Not going to let those pass up for nearly free.
-
They are the hardest ones to find to.

Lol, if you have a set of tires you want to 'wear out' I'll help pay for the gas to dayton just so I can ride along while you're wearing them out... Anybody know ~ when I should have the wire.... Nick, how thick is the wire as I'm going to have to drill holes in my pods for it.... Well I don't have the heart to buy 18's when I haven't worn the rubber off the 17's. Then I can put shows on the 17's too.
-
Oooo, a 4 stroke. Since you are ready though, you know it won't snow. I was going to buy a snowmobile 5 years ago, but it hasn't snowed since hardly. Except a few random big storms. I keep looking though maybe this year.
-
Indeed sounds like the wire, or a connection. Otherwise known as an FM problem.

I was in the shower....hit reply before I jumped in, but the server timed out

Hell with it then. Lowes blows.

Front stage install: SEAS W18 and F1 status tweet

Didn't hardly use any bondo. Not sure I understand, all the parts structurally are 100% fiberglass or mdf. I just skim coated bondo on top for smoothness. Even on the tweeter pods, I used 3 layers of glass.... -
Video input card for VHS to DVD Recommendations
///M5 posted a topic in Computers / Electronics / Music / Games
Anyone have any recommendations on software to turn a VHS video feed into a computer to rip a DVD? I need the software, hardware and it would be a bonus if it would work as a tv tuner as well. I have looked at Newegg and the like, but there are a lot of strange options and I thought someone might have done it already. -

Getting close now! I just glassed up my tweeter pods, pics will come after I trim the glass off as it looks like a bunch of fiberglass now. Here are shots of the tweeter baffle and the insert that I made to hold a laser pointer for aiming the tweeters. Currently they are aimed at the opposing headrest like the originals. I will play with their position after I have a chance to break them in and listen to them a bit. -
Beware since the box dimensions are for two subs in a normal mount, if you mount them isobaric you only need 1/4th the volume as you would for the two subs mounted normally. You will lose 6dB or so Isobaric but the subs will handle a bit more power allowing you to make a little of it up. That is such a small box already, so I wouldn't bother with the ISO setup.

You were up when I left for work... X2

Sweet, now you gotta teach him to open the fridge, grab you a beer, bring it to you and open it. Then he can go get his bag of treats and get one for himself--the real trick is just one.

Looks like the dog has "walleye" vision, I think I will come Saturday morning though too.
-
Assuming you corrected for the box volume so the inverted sub and normal mounting each had the "optimal" enclosure volume the differences would not be audible. The cone shape in this case couldn't really affect the wave. The angle is really the same inverted / \ = \ / and the motor structure is only nominally in the way and not at all when you consider the length of sub frequencies so it can't create that much extra destructive interference (less than 100Hz is more than 10') I am sure the difference is electronically measurable and "noticeable" in some realm (like an in an anechoic chamber) but really isn't auditory nor repeatably measureable with a measurement mic in a standard room environment.

Oh, and I finally realized what a camera phone is for.
