Tom you are quiet, does a female bigfoot have your tongue? *fur licker*
-
why do you assume I don't already?

It was super funny to see the poor gain differences on the pre-amp as well. On the Fos's they were barely on, for the Seas they were cranked past half. Of course that Hovland is only 35w a channel.

I need dates before I can comment. I want to, and am not concerned about the airfare since I get that free just the timing of it all. Seems to me it would be a good time to come out though

Don't get me wrong, for what they excel in they sound unbelievable. In fact, before today I wouldn't have thought about full ranges, but now I realize I need more than one set of mains. Before today for some unknown reason I was under the impression there was some gold standard that held itself accross all types of music, I now know better. You need a variety of speaks for doing what they are designed to do best. I really cannot believe I overlooked this, but probably should stay off the pipe and its associated dream...only brownies from now on I am curious to see how the w envelops this. I can hear it now, "why is it exactly that we need more than one set of front speakers?".

I left with the feeling that Tympany is effing things up, and regrettably before I win the lottery there won't be a US importer of Skaanig's. They didn't have any I could listen to, which my wallet thanks them for.

I'll quote you twice, but I heard everything in that room and some ported 5.25 Revs cab's too.
-
Oh and by the way, there will be more new Seas drivers out soon too!

The post-D'Appolito TL's and pre-D'Appolito MTM's. To put it simply, I won't buy into any of Joseph's designs. I really, really didn't like the TL's in comparison but from discussions with Adam I blame the crossover more than the enclosure; however, the enclosure might be a bit suspect too. Either way, i am going to build mine into a little ported 2 way with an 1189 for the eff of it. Should make some real sexy office/bedroom speakers. I did leave with some "mains" ideas though. Now I just need a new house and a fatter wallet.

What didn't you like about them? I've heard those cabinets are bass-shy and a little peaky...mine definitely won't be My 168Sig's are arriving tomorrow, methinks... Dynamics were lacking on either end as well as they weren't super smooth accross the range. They did however really embarrass their other speakers when you compared them in the vocal range. The stage was amazingly concise. My impression from switching to the Thor/Odin/Soloists from the 120's was that the recording was mic'd really poorly. On the little Fostex the stage was better than anything I have ever heard. Albeit particular to only female vocals, once you added full range there were some serious peaks that really bothered me.

If you really want to win you can't let other factors decide what you want to do. If you want your car to have X and still compete it is a different story. Either way you need to define what your "true" plans are and move forward from there.

Assuming you are playing sine waves. Either way I will reiterate the questionableness of the accuracy here. In the right hands it could be for the specific application, but generically speaking you are almost as good off going by published specs or your ear.

Sonotubes are cool, but don't worry too much about port location as long as you are away from edges. moving parts, and have enough port area. Enjoy that thing, it should be a beast in that box! -
Aaron, I like beer too! And Mark and I will be getting together, but it is my dumb arse schedule I need to fix first. Perhaps 3 weeks away and 1 home is normal for some people, but it isn't making it easy for me to get to Winnipeg. Within 6 months though I will. I do have to schedule a brew fest with Mark first.

Indeed, but do realize I am an upright bass player and rather particular in that respect...oh, and my doors can indeed handle it.

need a crossover

Since you are getting a Clarion, why not just get the 9255?? -
Funny, Jim Winey has an IB setup with his. Seems to me if the owner, designer, and founder of Magnepan prefers IB the other Maggie guys might follow suit. I am sure the bias that you read was based on space and not preference or perhaps even education. The classic internet boner is to promote what you have and not at all what is best. Jim's soundroom in his house is amazing by the way, by far the best sound room I have ever made measurements in. Not the quietest, but the best.

I have a 1500gti in my basement, if I had another the car would get a facelift. Enjoy those, I have mine I just wish I didn't sell the other two from the original "set"

My car sounded pimp with the sub like that, but you really can't expect to nail anything right the first time. If you really want to win expect to build a bunch of boxes and pick the one that sounds best. In my book picking the cosmetic portion before testing the sound is a bit backwards.

I will say it now. My truck is the last GM product I will buy. More stupid ass shit has gone wrong with it than even some stupid Yugo would have problems with. After visiting their R&D I understand why as well. One big for Detroit. I do see Ford improving things, Chrysler getting sold, and GM being big ole GM.

Oh and the new 16 series Excels walk on the 5.25 Revs in my book. More midbass and still the Seas sound. My intent was to leave with a pair of the Peerless Exclusives as well, but at this point I am not interested anymore.
