If I had to choose a midrange right up front on a budget, I'd look at: http://www.madisound.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=45_241_282 Aurasound NS3 HiVi BS3 Fostex FF85k I have heard all three and enjoyed the Fostex the most and they were being run without a tweeter, which of course would be another option for you. A midbass and a 3 with a tweeter to be added later.

The reason I ask is that I'd use a different driver if going 3 way. Something like the Peerless SLS, but it is 4" deep; however, if you want to do a 2 way now and perhaps upgrade to 3 later I personally would look at either the L22RNX or CA22. The breakup on the L is just above 4k so you should be fine blending it with the Neo, the CA of course doesn't have that issue at all. Both would make good midbass drivers down the road as well. Note, the L22/4RNX has a breakup that is lower and I think will be more troubling. The Peerless of course is useless in a 2way. Any of the three will make me jealous.

Well it is put together now. I do realize that my painting of the flush mount looks less than stellar, but you won't see it when the driver is in. All I had was some really chitty brush and some testors model paint. Since this is just a very temporary solution I am not sure it will even see carpet or paint. It could be paint ready fast though. This is the first "normal" box that I have built in a few years. Amazing how much easier a cube like structure is compared to something unusual like what is in the truck. When I get home tonight, I get to give her a listen. Right now the paint is drying.

It has pretty peppy performance and on the highway does good on milage. I am still pretty scared of any MB after the Chrysler debacle. Seen some real lemons in the past few years.

3 words for all 3 of those: Waste of money. If you want a BMW, get a 6 series. If you want a Porsche, get a Cayman S. If you want a VW get anything but the Touareg. 3 vehicles that should have never been made. If you must have a European SUV (and I don't know why you would) get a Range Rover or a UNIMOG. A better description of a waste of money would be to buy anything new. The initial depreciation hit on any car is by far the biggest waste of money you can have when buying a vehicle. Of course since the OP is looking for a 2000 it knocks those choices out of the list anyways. C'mon Bimmer-boy...you should know that there's a 2000 x5. The VW was released in '02, and the Cayenne in '03...hardly out of range for what the OP said...go reread, he didn't say ONLY 2000...he said somewhere in the 2000 year range, which these sit RIGHT into. It still doesn't list that it is a crossover for anything other than a sub. If you don't find a list of available crossover frequencies I would consider it a completely useless hunk of metal. I really, really doubt it does. I have never seen anyone say they were using one as a crossover and am rather keen on reading about active setups. That PPI piece that Scott linked you to is nice btw.

Unfair if you are comparing a used w6 to a new anything else. I would still call that overpriced albeit reasonable. For the same money there are a lot of other drivers that I'd rather have used. As for the amps, working out great; however, at the price I paid I couldn't have done anything else to get that much power either not to mention possible resale. To me the price of products (and part of this can work in JL's favor) is not the price you paid, but the price you pay minus what you sell it for. That will define what is overpriced and isnt'. Conveniently since there are so many people with JL boners it is easy to sell the stuff used; however, it doesn't make the new selling price good.

Bass Engine Pro. Crossovers to run your system active, eq made for actually fixing anomalies in a car, and time alignment for each driver; however, if you never plan to run active it doesn't buy you all that much.

Ha skinny puppy lol. That unit while it would be cool if it did, does not offer crossovers.
