    Welcome to the IHoP

Grrr, I finally have my analyzer and now realize that in my "enlightened" state of lets hurry and sell the house I have a $2k measurement microphone in a bin in a public storage locker someplace. I really wanted to adjust my t/a the right way and see what it does to my stage beyond where my ears have it set. Frustrating.

    Welcome to the IHoP

I am actually a little depressed at the capabilities of the Eclipse as well. My 8454 has no where near the flexibility of the 880. yep, everything is "good enough" but that's never good enough for me. I probably won't be happy till i have a p9 combo in. I'd like one of those, but the H701 has so many more future connectivity options it makes it hard for me to even think p9. If I go the processor route at the price they get for either option, I will probably just go straight to carputer instead. Currently I do not have the time to figure that one out. I can't actually imagine using the BLA. Even with the 8v off my 8454 I have to keep my gains on off otherwise the sub goes ballistic. Heck I've never had noise with weak 5v outputs.

HVLP is easier...just do a test panel or a piece of cardboard first. Painting is sort of like riding a bike and firsthand I watched my parents pick that up a few months ago when I took them to Italy. It had been more than 25 years and they both had no problems.

    Bi Amping components

It would be an outstanding amplifier to use. Do beware though as you will have enough power to shred those tweeters. I actual really prefer to have a lot of power on my tweeters. I recently stepped back from an old school Rockford P150 running my tweets to 27w on each side and the dynamics left the vehicle completely. I doubt under normal operation the tweeter will draw more than 10w anyways, but it made a massive difference in how they sound. They get spitty faster and generally don't blend as well with the rest of my stage which now has me pondering other amplifiers yet again. The power rating on the set is really for the mid, particularly for the low frequencies. You can always throw more power to components if you cross them higher than they were in the passive crossover; however, at just 100w per channel assuming a good install this won't be a problem that you will have. If it were me, I'd start with by setting the gain on the mid and putting it on the lowest possible setting for the tweet. At that point give it a listen and turn the tweet up to blend if necessary. It would be a bad idea to set the gains for the tweet using standard methods in my book as it won't need that much power, but the headroom it will absorb fully and reward you. I guess what I am saying is :doit:

    Box Design Help

For 33sq inches your port is too short to hit 32hz. How did you come up with 33" long?

    Three-Way system in the future

Well to me a passive 3 way is a waste. There is no real way to control it in a car environment. I suppose if you had really small feet and put all three drivers in your kicks it would be fine, but otherwise I think you need the flexibility of active crossovers and processing. As for what I have in mind, it all depends on what you want to spend, what your goals are, and how much room you have for drivers. Take a look in your doors and see what sort of 8 you think you can fit and we can start from there.

    DEH-P880PRS

Your going to love it. If it had a few bands of parametric on top of what it already does it may be the perfect headunit. Either way it has way more flexibility than my Eclipse.

Looking for breakup modes, I could offer to help...but he knows I can find them for him in minutes so I will wait for him to come to me.
  15. My recommendation is not to stray from manufacturers specs. Perhaps part of the problem you have right now is that you are on the very small end for the Rlp as well. It will give you more in a larger box instead of being cramped in what you have. If you do the same to the Maw 15 it won't give you what you are looking for; however, if you can fit it in a larger box it sure might.

Not a bad way to start in particular to decide on some crossover points.

I like it. I didn't even think about that sale when I posted the CA18 as an option, however that is a step better.

  22. first shot around I'd definitely follow the recommendations, if you aren't in love describe what you don't like and tinker from there. I doubt that will happen though.
