We had a hell of a thunderstorm last night. You could read a book by the lightning at 3am. Of course it sucks as I had planned on fishing today, but think they are going to be buttoned up for a few days. There goes the weekends plans

Lots of good ones. In fact for what you are doing I wouldn't shy away from used. It all depends on what exactly you think you need. -
Personally I'd lower the tuning, but that is me. It depends on your application of course. At 35hz it is going to be loud, but peaky at the same time. I of course would jump off the other end and try to tune her as flat as possible.

I'm sure it is. I just wanna keep it simple, and a 165 band equalizer doesnt sound too simple to me. Not so sure I agree with that statement at all. You are already into the "complicated" diy setup and having extra eq doesn't mean you have to use, you only need to eq what you feel you need. The flexibility of an off board proc is so much further than any headunit and for that reason alone is a superb option. -
What exactly do you have, what are you plans and goals, what sort of car is it and what sort of budget do you have? I am not sure I understand where you are coming from or what you want to do. Midbass will come with installation and not drivers. If you really want it you are going to need to copiously deaden your doors. Also, if you were into SPL comps midbass and front stage won't help anyways. To win their it is all about playing a single note really loud, of course at the expense of how everything else sounds. This of course is the reason for Jim's statement. SPL is the exact opposite of SQ. One peaky note in your frequency response versus a very smooth and balanced frequency response. Regrettably you can't have both as to get either from your subs you do the exact opposite things.

At least in the boat they get some old school PPI love (of course the other two channels are powering some RF 6x9's in little truck boxes). Again with super hot gains and typically run full throttle. I am really impressed the PPI lives. Makes me want some, but also makes me wary of used gear if this is what the average idiot does. And he isn't even an idiot.
-
Of course his gains are run super hot and that really, really helps.

Never pulled the door off one, but they indeed have some stupid ass speakers mounted up high. I wanna say 4x10's but it has been more than a year since my friend who has one asked what 6 speakers he should buy for his truck. Of course he ignored me completely and went with all Infinity crap from crutchfield in a pre-fab sealed box with power akoustik amps. His truck sounds like complete and utter shit too. Note he isn't a great friend but someone I socialize with on the lake a lot. He got bit by the buy one get one free on the Infinities and bought 4. Two for his boat and one for his and his girls car. God I hate those subs. No lows, peaky even in the right box and the output is crap.

Anytime MN plays its good.

I have hit my head before and probably will again. Luckily no sleeping in the water for me yesterday!

I am going to where our KS friend has never been. Off to the lake to get stinkin' drunk and relax. Wifey and me both took the afternoon off. See you all later

Cool underground is a funny term to me. I will say that from the description you gave the dude sounds like a tool; however, if you were an elitist in the sense that you really only liked musicians with serious, serious chops that is something I can respect. Of course no underground anything from the past 15 years can fit that definition.

Or sell that Nav and buy an Alpine nav/controller to work with an H701. -
Contra sweet. Just a bit of good news on the career side for me. I am one small order away from the goal I set for myself for the whole year, which by the way was 70% more than the territory had ever done. That order comes next week which makes me done for the year. I also had a hell of a nice one on one with my boss and perhaps am one step away now from being the National Sales Director instead of just a Regional. It will be a two step process, but everything other than a small region around our office in Boston could be under Sean's direction very soon if I play my cards right. So far, I am proving to be a good card player in this instance but we shall see. Wish me luck

The L/R eq on the 880 I find very helpful. It is the only unit on your list with that capability. -
As well as typically you aren't running them as low as they are rated which of course means more power handling. I am answering your question, but not particularly recommending these drivers for your application. Again these were mixed with only some midbass and no tweeter which of course helps to have a "full range" driver. They were Fostex FF85k's run almost completely on axis off an old a/d/s amplifier. Processing was done by an H701 and I have no idea how much eq was being used, but nonetheless those little guys mixed with a midbass run to around 250k in the doors was his whole front stage. The stage cues, positioning, and frequency response was outstanding. Super natural and plenty of output. (do realize that I would never have need for dual 12's output wise so it may not be what you are looking for).
