Our leaves are about 25% turned and it got damn cold last night

bummer on the truck

why did VJ's first mini-wall build get deleted/

SQ will depend exclusively on the rest of the system.
-
Search for other ones for sale. Expect to lose between 30-50% of what you put into it.
-
I'd rather see you spend 2x as much on one 15 and get a better one than buy two of those.
-
Even in the door close to the midrange would work, but there it is a cosmetic issue of how you deal with making it blend.

the kicker comps I have heard rip your head off...

There are so many nice tweeters that I would focus on things that aren't on the market. Even if you packaged an off the shelf tweet with a 7" driver as a component set it would be cool, but I don't really see the need to spend the R&D money to develop a tweeter.
-
Ok, I thought you blew your mids from your first post not your tweets. If you whacked the Morels either those passives are complete crap or you are a bit gain happy on your amps. If you set yours by ear I would highly suggest verifying their set point with an oscilloscope as those tweeters are robust and usually only fail with mis-use. As for your search for an 8" 2 way, there really aren't any that I would use beyond 1200hz. Getting a cone that big if non-paper will have breakup modes that are nasty and the driver will start beaming as well. Neither are things that I would consider something that I could stomach. I know Scott stated he doesn't want to hear a tweeter play below 4kHz but he has the advantage of a true 3 way and can get away with that. If you use a rather simple 7" driver you could as well, but there is not a hard cone (metal, poly, kevlar) in the 7" size that you can play that high. In fact, most I would highly recommend crossing over below 2kHz. The Seas Excel is a great example, anything over 1300hz without a notch and you get the fun of extending all the s's in any vocal as the cone breaks up. Personally I was never a fan of the CSX driver, when you said you had the Peerless I assumed it was the Exclusive which is a great driver. Not that the CSX was a terrible driver, but for instance the $30 Dayton RS180 walks all over it in bass response and midrange clarity. It won't work nearly as well again with some generic passive. Before going any further you really need to commit to going active or not. If you say not, do realize my recommendation will probably shift to buying a set of components off the shelf.

I'd rather have an HD-DVD I never use than a gaming console I never use

Recommend them to VJ I bet he will try to fit them in his wall.

April, on the beach, western shore of MD. Sounds awesome, Kari & I had ours on a cliff overlooking the St. Croix River valley.

I hate sanding as well. Ugh

I'll tell you one thing, those AC's will sound terrible with a generic passive crossover. And if I said hold up, it isn't quite exactly what I meant. I was trying to imply that for the same output they shouldn't have to work as hard. Considering that I don't think this is what destroyed your Peerless drivers I am not so sure it would help you to change drivers. As for your 3 way question, I would highly, highly recommend you tackle a 2 way active first. On one other note on the 3 way I wouldn't use the AC or that Morel in one anyways you would really benefit from 3 completely different drivers. Until you really understand the environment you are playing in a 3 way is really a bit complex. In particular if you even think you might buy a passive off the shelf and another driver to go with the AC and Morel, IMO you might as well just buy some cheap components and call it good as they will probably work out better.

Here is where your logic doesn't hold true, I am using the pure Websters definition and you are using what you think you have learned the terms to be based on incorrect posts on the interweb. First off throw competition out the window, neither one of us are talking about that at all. If you are looking for an SPL system, it is to maximize the sound pressure level for a given install. In that case you build a box and tune it in such a way that it will have a peak response. This is the opposite of a flat response. I used perfect before as the "flat" portion is a bit subjective as everyones ears are different and this isn't for competition or anything else just personal listening. As a side since you bring up dynamics, you could not have an SQ system without really nice dynamics. Consider classical music which regularly has dynamics of over 60dB and I would also guarantee that nearly all classical listeners would prefer an SQ system. Obviously dynamics are much more important in an SQ install. Basically this comes down to compromises which is my whole point. I am not really concerned with your definitions but am very concerned about what compromises you are willing to make to gain what you feel you need. All of my posts have been trying to understand just that for your current install.

Put yourself in their shoes, would you take a trade back? I wouldn't either. There is a really good used market for an SSD though so post it up in the classifieds here & elsewhere and you will get a buyer.

when & where abouts?

I had thought you referred to Amanda as your wife before. I know what the damn food/location costs are and they are tremendous. I did mine in a backyard, and had a measly hog roast but was still in it for more than $50 a head. When your w comes from a family with 11 kids it gets particularly painful and my big ego wouldn't let her parents help out

Oh, by the way 110dB is actually pretty loud just not in sub frequencies where your ears are terribly inefficient.
-
They are opposites in nature. SPL - sole purpose is to make one note really loud at the expense of all others SQ - sole purpose is to have a perfect frequency response One note does not and can never equally a great frequency response. In the process of designing a sub box it is most definitely completely opposite as for the rest, in an SQ system the front stage is the highlight and by far the most important part. Most true SQ systems I have heard rarely have anything hardly at all coming from the subwoofer and you surely cannot locate it. It isn't unusual to have it play only below 30Hz. In an SPL system, the front stage doesn't even need to exist and the sub probably has no information (especially relative) below 30hz. They are dire opposites in the truest sense of the word.

interesting.. Amanda and I hate the same old stiff and static stereotypical wedding pictures. Any way, this is just a weekend long party/vaction for us with our few close friends and family. Will be a small wedding on the water, and no kids other then Arthur and his two cousins. You are getting married???
