    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

I've had 2 butts on the smoker now for 16hours. Have to leave for the bday party in 45 minutes and they are only at 155. I went to bed at 10pm and the temp read 147.6. I woke up at 5am and the temp read 147.6 so I indexed the temp to 250.. At 7am they read 147.8 so I upped it to 300. Little frightened I am drying out my beautiful butts but have no choice. Lunch is at 12 and it is a bit more than 2 hours away when towing the boat.
  2. Definitely hop back on with your findings before buying anything. If the right things are in my audio closet they could surely make their way to CO. I've reduced the idiocy that was driver overload, but still have too much shit.
  3. For $50, the SB29 and Dayton RS28 are both winners. For a bit more I have a really hard time not recommending the Peerless HDS...although I haven't heard the new one. Had a pair of the older ones, but expect fully that the new one should be as good. (810921/Scan Speak D2608) Spending more than $75 per tweeter in a car to me isn't sensical...unless you really have to have a small format in that case one could make the argument for the D2904, but shit they got spendy.
  4. Think it is simpler. Good tuning makes a worse driver sound better. Only question is then how large of a driver can you "easily" fit

Not because of the motor but the chassis.

I have to admit that I didn't like driving the isf at all

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Sure, pick the one with the Garrett GT35R and Getrag V160. 400Hp in something that size would be fun, but for that effort I'd just sell it and the ISF.
  9. Was there anything you didn't like about the tweeters you had?
  10. What you forgot is that said guy has a set of ridiculously ballsy but expensive small format tweeters. My only concern with anything in response to your needs is that your listening habits are at much higher levels than mine. Of course I drove home tonight after dropping off a colleague at near full tilt.... ...listening to 2 acoustic guitarists
  11. I've never had a set sound good on axis in a car. Between the greatly different path lengths and reflective surfaces a bit of an off axis response usually wins.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

I've killed 3...finally bought a good one. Last one I left plugged in actually shut my car down randomly while driving. I've had a good one plugged in now for 3 years.
  16. That is because there are a lot of stupid people. The goal of "over powering" is already dubious adding an enclosure change to rationalize it being okay is downright ridiculous. Larger amp = lower gains if you want your stuff to live. Doing something else is absurd.
  17. Out of all people to not guess what mids you were running, lol. Forgot you said you bought 2 pairs. The main reason for the large format is Fs and power handling. Plus you have a shit load of choices instead of a few, but as Ryan hinted they are nearly as large as a full ranger and aren't blessed with the aim on axis and tune away simplicity.
  18. I am curious if you thermally destroyed them or mechanically. Thermally is compensation for wind, mechanically crossover point/slope. My guess is thermal matching Jimi's but of course I can't be 100% sure. What would help this is if you could fit a larger tweeter. That Seas while fine as a neo just isn't stellar (but when you got them it isn't like there were other good choices unless you wanted to spend D2904 type dough). Of course that would take more space. What I don't know is how the Evil is on power handling. My guess is that it should be better than that Seas all the way around but if you rapidly destroyed those having some more headroom wouldn't be terrible. I am not sure metal buys you anything. Sure some top end sparkle, but you are probably really striving to have more on the bottom than on the top. The top rarely causes either thermal or mechanical concerns...
  19. My memory sucks. What mids are they blending with? Perhaps even more important how high can said mids play nicely in your install?

    Ssa tweets?

No worries, just wanted to make sure that we understood as the difference can greatly change what you should choose
  21. Wow. Absolute morons shouldn't answer threads for them lol

    Ssa tweets?

On axis always means pointing right at your head. Nothing else. Tweeters sound like crap pointed like that, but full ranges sound like crap if they don't. Perhaps that sways you to the tweeter...

    Ssa tweets?

Can't say that an on axis tweeter has ever sounded the best to me on the a pillar. Full ranger absolutely but tweeter not usually. Big difference when using a driver with good off axis response and not up there as well though.

    Ssa tweets?

Should really focus on the mounting locations before picking driver and crossover frequency. Aiming and location would be exactly how I'd then narrow down both the driver and crossover point.

Just don't leave the cheap ones plugged in all the time.
