Hydration is necessary as you age.

Hey, me too!

It is the el cheapo HP option for GM and the junk yard guys. No one wants them used so they go super cheap and mate with cheap used turbos to make a ton of power for nearly no money. Plenty of cheap manifolds as well to do your own "kit" but if you haven't done one already don't expect the process to be easy. As a plane naturally aspirated engine there is no way I woudl get one.
-
Probably cheaper to build the 4.3
-
Yep, $48k for that is wrong. Had they dressed up the outside a bit more and put in a nicer interior then $48 could be okay. Hell if they did that I would own one. Sad that the Holden version looks so much better...and even worse, comes with the LSA.
-
No need to apologize, it is the typed word. I also spend $ like crazy so your expectations are appropriately pointed.
-
Blanket was meant for cost effective, ie used or reasonable (chinese) builds. The 5.3 or bigger really needs a T6 and gets out of the efficiency curve of the turbine where the 4.8 can use a single large T4 and build power right in the efficiency window really easily. Obviously if you have big targets displacement is king, but for 700hp crank builds it is much cheaper to build a 4.8 than the other motors. They also take a beating better. I am ONLY referring to LS motors from scrap yards as building blocks. Being Mike was doing a swap that is what led me there. So yes, blanket indeed but for a specific application.

For myself since I can't fab shit, I just bought a damn kit. $5k is about right...but hard to get much over 12lbs for less with a super charger and not using used parts.
-
Obviously there is no 100% anything, but generally speaking.
-
Not true on a single turbo. Stock 4.8's outproduce 5.3's. Change to a T6 and the expense and different story.
-
Exactly what I said.
-
Bigger blocks from GM will wake up with the heartbeat easier, but if you brew your own the charger option is significantly more expensive than going with a turbo.
-
Tons of guys running 10's with less than $500 into the complete motor and turbo. Not sure how you can get any cheaper starting without a motor.
-
On a budget was the only variable worth referencing. It will easily drive a really large T4. Much cheaper to build in the GM domain unless you are targeting over 800hp.
-
If my rig didn't come with the 6.2 I'd be running one. Hard to say no to the extra displacement, but I am limited in HP right now by the block. Any wee gains and I'll push water.
-
Seen some buys for <$100 if you pull it yourself. All for a motor that with a turbo can easily hit 600+ for nearly no dough.
-
And are SUPER cheap at scrap yards
-
4.8 makes more sense though as it spins a turbo better.
-
5.3 came in a ton of stuff. Just an engine block. Like the 350 of old.
-
Btw. I would buy a 4.8 before a 5.3 if it were me....but it would also get a big ole turbo
-
Pretty sure he meant a TBSS converter...but if you look on the TBSS forums you will see a ton of guys who swapped for 4l80s as any power adder and even a built 60 kisses itself goodbye
-
I am not a 5.3 man...but I did a poop ton amount of research on all the LS stuff. Any conversion is spendy and should be avoided. That being said at a certain power and weight threshold you have no choice. How "built" of a motor are you planning?
-
I halfway expect Polaris to release a Turbo 2 stroke in 3 weeks. It is either that or a 3cyl 2str or some other power adder.
-
que paso?

The brass is even worse now pushing electric vehicles. It isn't for better emissions, but does have one benefit there. It moves the emissions from where the cars are driven to where the power/batteries are made.
