Differences between sub sizes
thebiggmann12 replied to thebiggmann12's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
lol the bottom of the seat is all that i removed and just folded the top down, and the bottom half only weighs like 5 pounds max. i plan to get a v2 when they come out, but like u said, thats a whole nother topic lol. but while i could stick with the 18...i have to get a recone+basket anyways so i figured i could kill 2 birds with 1 stone...idk. its still in the air for me lol... -

the way i see it is that a 15's cone area is about 69.4 percent of an 18. and the rule of thumb (ik this isnt necessarily the case) is that doubling the cone area will raise about 3db. now with going from an 18 to a 15 which is more than half the cone area, i would drop about 2db's which if i recall correctly is not audible. i could be wayyyy off with this but this is how i am seeing it...i just cant justify losing my backseat for something that is not even noticeable. i dont compete, plan to compete a little this summer, so the meter is not a huge deal to me. thoughts?? -

lol i would love an svt...but would rather get a truck...so the focus is only temporary till i get out of school. the gas milage difference is incredible, i gained 5 mpg's when i took all of my equipment out. -
home delivery i got 67 bucks. thats at 120 pounds beings 60 per sub...idk how much they weigh but ik my nightshade 18 weighs about 68 pounds.

get some measurements...
-
shit shoulda asked where u were shipping to.
-
i think the 2x4's are there just for bracing, outside or inside, they are used bc they are thick and strong so they wont flex.
-
o.p., check out the sundown nightshades

Ok when you get a new basket each of the screws that hold it down, should be 6 of them, should have a dab of CA glue holding them down, What i used was a 20g needle from walgreens and some paint thinner to break the glue down. you're going to want to use that and if possible an impact screwdriver, works like an impact wrench buy you use a hammer on it instead of an air compressor. I was told that you don't have to use CA glue to hold down the screws and that loctite or a similar product will work. lol i didnt go through all that trouble...there was ca glue on the bolts but i just used some muscle and they came right off.

who were u looking at? try ups or fedex. they are normally fairly cheap...ik fedex charged me 50 to ship my 10" bl.

lol...my car already has an intake exhaust and header. im not worried about speed...its a focus. i already have to get a recone either way with a new basket bc mine broke...i was just wondering how much output im going to lose. it would be nice to have my backseat back, but its def not a necessity. -
staying with the size i have but i have to get a new basket too.
-
this is a good post, for i am about to preform my first recone.
-
how long did u let the glue set?
-
i think if u get a 300 amp alt, and 3 big batts for the back, u should be fine..make sure u get a voltage meter, just so u know for sure. and with all this money in the setup, might wanna get a o-scope or at least find somebody who has one just to make sure ur not clipping.
-
what were the technical difficulties?
-
probably clipped it.
-
looks great!!!keep up the good work.

the saz is stable at higher voltages like 16v or 18v systems. u probably dont have that, so i would go with the 1200d. also, jacob has said himself that the sae1200d could be classified as a 1500 watt amp.

so ur port is 3" wide, from the top to the bottom of ur box and goes in 9"?
