    chop's build log

man , so much info here, i gotta go sor a while longer, it will be at least tomorrow before i can do this, i will re-read it later on. i will take the step by step approach on it.... i will ensure it is not loose. i need to warn chicagofan of the same. note: it does not mention this warning in the thread titled " a technical understanding to polyfill" thanks for all the input, i assure you i will address all these aspects first . thanks again. chop oh, off of a very brief summary, aroung 44 os 45 hz. it seems to start to become less output.... is this the roll off?
  2. thanks for the input fellars. i'm out. chop

lmao.... rofl, can't wait for the girls to get up so i can share it with them. thanks for sharing. chop
  4. sorta goes with the flow here, i was told today that i should add at least six more points of grounding to my truck! it was said that it will only help things out that much more. is this accurate? would multiple grounds throughout the vehicle benifit the system ? thanks chop

i am looking at that polyfill suggestion , that will indeed be the next move. there are some pioneers thrown in the doors right now, no amplification, not sure of model number. (thanks Mikey) i will look into your suggested upgrade, it will be a moment before it happens though. i would like to use some horns in there somewhere and have been watching seliniums ( spelling) closely. chop I have those same ones right now Chop. Im in the middle of a build log for them in my doors but have been stalled on a lot of side projects and looking for work lately. Mdizzle was looking into them too. They are only $32 bucks a pop. I'll be sure to update. The polyfill sounds like a cheap alternative to building another enclosure already huh? I would definately check it out too. I think I heard on another forum about using the stuff from craft stores as the same thing. Idk for sure though. that sounds good to me price wise.... i will look in to it. will be trying the polyfill tomorrow. OT, i got the funeral tomorrow so it will help to get my mind back off of things.

i would not know a true SQ sytem if it slapped me in the face...lol.... but i have heard those selleniums before and they sounded great to me....for what that is worth. i am probably guilty of liking the loud stuff.... not sure where i am at in it exactly yet though.

Hmm, from your thread it surely doesn't sound like you are that impressed with it. currently you are correct, i am unsure to blame the sub or the box though. the output is there, like you said, the lows are not , like you said...... i might be in for a rude awakening. got a few more tries at enclosures to make up my mind. chop

    A technical understanding of Polyfill

hey fellas, if we have a box that is 6 cubes common chamber, but with a center port somewhat dividing that area, would it be considered 3 cubes per side.... if so should we go with .50 lbs. per cube or would it be safe to give it a full pound per cube? thanks for the input. if all else fails, i will take the op's advice and go with the smaller and work up from there. chop

Yeah man just so it will be easy to search here you go (resonance), but yeah Im still learning all this tuning and how your car affects it but the range I posted a minute ago is my understanding of tuning frequencies for a ported enclosure. I dont think your the ultimate low fan so I think 32Hz is a good place to start for tuning and go from there. right on. well then, until someone else talks me out of it, 32hz. @ 4 cubes will be the next box. on the back burner, i have a pair of 15" IA LI's wanting me to adopt them. perhaps i will, lol.

    jay-cee's Build Log

Yeah I think the 3.5ft^3 will probably suit it better, but the tuning is something you have to decide on what you want to lose or give up or comprimise. For example: 27-30Hz (great lows, ok output) 31-35Hz (good lows and good output) 36hz or higher (ok lows and great output) After all this Im thinking I may rise my tuning to 30Hz and no higher (but 29Hz isnt that far off so it is still a toss up), we will see by the time it comes to build a box for it. keep in mind box size has just as much to do with hitting the lows as the tuning does. You can lose 2-3 db's on the low notes if box is just 1 cube too small to efficiently reproduce the lows. so if you tune lower, but don't increase box size or even decrease box size you may say opposite effect you are looking for. If you are really trying to bang the lows, I would recommend something in the 4cuft range. My favorite setup thus far is my single 15" Q in 4.8cuft after port and displacement tuned to 28hz. That thing was ridiculous, especially for only one sub, I have some vids of that build up on youtube. Never had the chance to make vid of my other setups. Once I get the SA-12's in there will def. be a vid though. I am glad you posted this.... i thought i had read something to that effect before. it would not bother me a bit to just, lower the tuning , as long as it changed it to the good. my thoughts of the smaller enclosure is based on it seems to get a liitle warm on the test notes. i still have to set my amp the correct way. so it could be the amp as opposed to too much air. thank you for the input. chop

i have seen threads regarding the reasoncents ( horrible attempt at spelling) of the vehicle.... how it loads off of the different surfaces and how it sounds. i need to read up on this to understand it better. i know in short that your vehicles interior can alter the tuning. I think that the better lows have the best approach for me. I want the output, but like you said, i want it low. I will go for more output and better lows, just as soon as i get the dang lottery numbers right, and it will all be in a mid 90's wagon! lol.

    jay-cee's Build Log

i am going lower.... i think i gave it a little too much airspace, .50 cube smaller @ 3.5 instead of 4, and i need to drop it to 32 hz. , my thing is, after chicagofan and i played some test tones in there, i might like 30hz. tuning. i have my eye on a battery in two weeks and a dmm is on the way from a buddy. that will get the electrical up to snuff. then it will be mdf. time. what would you suggest? do you listen to jezzy? there is several tracks missing that "feeling" it should have. chop
  21. that is a solid design. will be into seeing the build once it gets going. nice wire there too.

    jay-cee's Build Log

hey bro, my .02 about the tuning is on the same take as yours. I thought that the higher tuning would increase my output and give me a bettr apreciaton for my system. I tell you, around 40 to 44 hz., the thing is loud and everything shakes. ( thanks for the test cd chicagofan ) , but with my music, it lacks, i just don't like it. i want them lows back. If i was to rebuild mine or purchase a totally new set-up, i would go with a lower tuning. it is definetly a better choice for my preferances. the out put will still be there, perhaps a tad bit less, but i am am not competing in a spl bracket currently. if i had the loot, i would get a couple of those subs coming my way too, that is the right price to get them moving. chop

who all has been scorned or belittled by ///M5?

fair enough in the whole of it. i am challenged here on which way i should respond. i feel i should either inquire what it is you are reffering to, or just restate what he originally said. Five, he had only asked you about your trip .... saying whats up.....in the ihop. is there misinformation within that? Is it a stupid post or slao in the face to say whats up in the ihop? i am not being a smart ass here, i really am wanting to have a sloid answer as to what he done wrong, in the begining, so i can explain it to him accordiningly, as well as to avoid it myself. if there is other post or coments that he did wrong on, i was not aware of it and apologixe for the oversite and misdrawn conclusion that you was responding to his post in the ihop. the disrespect that you are referring to, just for clarifacation, was what he went on to say afterwards , correct? i totally understand the rest and to where as you and i know there will always be some body that does break the rules delibertly, i can never gaurantee that..... i do assure you i will continue to try to learn and uphold the actions deemed acceptable on here. i hope as you read this, you understand my position on it in all aspects.... as a friend to him and as a member to this forum. thanks chop.

who all has been scorned or belittled by ///M5?

wonderfully put!! bravo! too bad you are no where near the scope of my, well our issue at hand. thanks for your story and time, it was attempting to encourage me to understand a new way of approaching some of these issues, up until i read the entirety of it. you are on your own page, just typing away words of wisdom and tuff advice to something completly off topic of what i was saying. These guys are strengthening themselves, with a drive to change for the better. Understand ,in the start of this , he was indeed addressed in a poor manner for something that could of been handled more diligintly, in the ihop, wich was by definition , off topic, not clutering the site of great learning in any manner, the same place where folks choose to post partially nude boys in the shower or men wearing cut off jean shorts...... this is where he darkened the sites reputation of good punctuation? come on fellas, if you choose to give your time away writing advice toward this, at least don't waste it by writing on something that is not accurate.address what is at hand. i was hoping to get up today and move on somewhat, after reading denims pm, i was prepared to make right with my bad, posting this thread, and move on. it makes t hard when i read all of these post that are a product of not reading into the entire situaation at hand. i have pointed out before that it is apparent that the rulles are infractioned everyday, without any response. it is not about a rule or the unwillingness to abide by the rules, it is about a guy was saying whats up to someone wh i myself have stood up for and looked up to, asked advice from..... it was his poor manner of responding to him that sparked it all. it was this that i am addressing. then when it re-sparked back up, by him, the kid tried to get away from it again, only to be talked down on further. I readily acknowleged steves wrng doing in it. I openly mentioned my respect for the man and his job, i made an attempt to apologize for my over- reaction. the title of this thread asked a question. it did not state a unwillingness to obeye the rules. i will continue to do what i came here to do, learn, bond, and to grow. I finished school with a diploma, i went on to get my associates degree, as well as four years of apprenticeship school to become a Journeyman Ironworker. my wife and I are the first ones in several generations of our family to have finished school or to own our home. I have brought many youth off the street and encouraged them to put drugs and violance behind them. daily helping with job searches and GED programs. In no way am i the weak individual that these comments might suggest. Nor is steve. he made small mistakes with his posting, grammar, spelling, punctuation..... but he was trying. no one had asked him to claen it up or to work on it more, before the first stab, " quite posting like a tard" , he reacted negatively in accordiance to this. then attempted to make good on it. I I have mentioned a few times now that i look up to ///M5 for where he is, to him and to this board. i am not attempting to take him or his rep down. i was upset and and asked a question of who else had been through it before. i openly admitted i was in the wrong for the post , it could of been handled differently. i apologized for my actions as well as steve's. I think i am being very open here. open to advice as well as critisism. i am apologetic with the willingness to grow, please do not make a attempt to change what is at hand. that is wrong even if your intentions are golden. i will cotinue to read this topic and choose to only responde if it is in a good light, otherwise, i think this is a dead subject. it was birthed by a poor desicion and does not need to be further bastarded along by further ones. thank you for all of the input, today, after a cooling down period, i have further respect for this site, too bad i could not of been introduced to some of these folks in a better light. it is important for folks to stick together. chop
