    Chevy Avalanche build log

Sweet! you know we gotta see those vids now! $250 bucks for the wood, wow, my build is under that, lol. on the birch, is there any issues with wood splitting like mdf? never have used it and just curious to how it acts. I know it is lighter in weight. The mdf is cheaper, but heavier and splits easily. Shizzzon sorta schooled me on doing away with screws and just gluing all joints, i am wanting to try this on my next box. the finished look with the gate down and all glassed is nice...any lighting behind there? chop

    why

welcome to a great site. Uh, when attempting to point out epic fails and standing your ground for not being a newbie, perhaps a little proof reading would be in order, lol. ^^^ I would say the newbie section is for folks new to this forum, so we have a chance to know the newest members as they join. You say you been on other forums for years, by all means, share some of your experiances , do you currently have any builds? The same rules that seem to bother folks about selling their items, quickly become the ones they appreciate the most when deciding to make a purchase on here. These guys are always looking out for all of the members on here, that is FTW ! chop

    chop's build log

guess i will go ahead and start the build log...... so, this is about where we decided I should be taken pictures, most demo work was done before i got the cell phone out, no camera for a while yet. took out the rear seats completly and made up some panels to replace the void. have started some of the electrical upgrades as well as some basic deadening.

    chop's build log

Hey Five, I am going to re-look at all the math, as I do, i will gather all resources, and display all info for everyone to look over and offer input as they may see fit. I will not have the first intention of even going to buy wood until after the 26th, ( payday ) , i will consider all coomentary to be additional guidance in it. I read up a little on his ten inch whatever, blowing apart..... it prompted me to add DIYAudio in my favorites to read up on what info is within thier forums, as i have but only briefly been on there. i will attempt to get on this right away. chop

Three 12" Kicker CompVR's in a Chevy Caprice

No, that amp is a POS. Its flea market brand if Im not mistaken. Id like to think you crushed its will to live but Im afraid the heartbeat was faint from the start. lol, it is a 4000 watt amp though, lmao @ it. Its funny how these insane max ratings are so high, then when you get down to business, the rms is really a joke. Whoever does the marketing for this stuff is going straight to hell! they sure are, lol

Gas station worker told me that i should visit ear doctor lol, she thought that station is going to fall apart when i went there and had my volume turned up, but it wasn't even maxed out yet, lol FTW , lol

WOW! Thats a lot of weight for that little guy! Is Steve an actual human? Cause Im big myself and 400lbs for two people aint all that much if you know what I mean! Its nice to know she can do it though. Go for it dude. I cant wait to see it. Are you aiming for the same tuning as before or lower? ha ha ha , yeah, Steve is rattlebox317... he is a light weight though... lol. the t-line in the pic is at the subs fs of 24hz. , so like 11 feet..... i am likeing the idea of tunning a little higher of the fs and shortening the line some... tunning the line to 30hz. , like 9.5 feet in length. i also still need to get a definite sa, or cone area for my sub, i seem to find conflicting numbers there, i am using 132 sq. in. , while another is suggesting 119 sq. in. ..... so i need to get that worked out also.

lmao, will be removing the seats for sure. we had 37 bags of salt ( 50 lbs. per bag =1850 lbs.) me and steve ( 400 lbs.) box and sub ( 100 lbs.) so like 2350 on the ol' Dakota.... she took it like a champ. minus gas mileage. would not do it everyday though. i think i am going to run through all the numbers one more time and then i am going for it.

sorta real close to this design.... will be working toward this approach. i designed one and also had another builder design one off of same specs.... we were almost the same.... will be zeroing in on all the specifics in in a few days.... i plan on shitting a whole lot of info in the begining of my new thread on what inspired each aspect of the design and the formulas i used chop

i am not truly sure.... i believe at first he was wanting a small upgrade, then told me to see how far 400 to 500 dollars would get him, then .......nothing! have not heard back from him yet. would like to have 1200 to 1500 watts at 2 ohm stable.... should be easy enough to accomplish, if he goes this route. he has a 15" Kicker L7 also, so sometimes it is on his mind to use it instead. stay tuned, lol. chop * any suggestion or good deals , let me know fellas???* *any one with something for sale that fits the bill? i will let him know whats up.*

Rockford Fosgate, The Punch Classic, 10"

brother, i have no idea, like i said, honestly, i only want to provide a good 8" or 10" sub for my little brothers install. i have no intrest in making a big profit or whatever, if you currently have a sub in mind, or a price, pm me..... i am just into the concept of folks having old school audio collections, never had considered that before. I have a old alpine amp too, will have to pull it out of storage and see what it is... I will take a look and see what a different sub would cost, it does not have to be anything great, i am positive we can work something out. i will take some better pictures tomorrow when it is sunny outside. the camera phone does a little better when it is light outside.

    chop's build log

i am going to get hammered for this, but i guess i am sorta hard headed. i want to learn about audio, and my way is hands on, or in some cases, if you will, ears on! i have looked at the concepts of using T-lines in the Dakota for a while. well, i am looking at them again. I really have found that there is two sides to this group, * Side A : The fuck yeah's! * Side B : The fuck no's! I have looked in to both sides and seen there a sub catergories too. * Subcatergories for side A* ** Fuck yeah - sound quality will be awesome ** Fuck yeah - output will be crazy * Subcatergories for side B* ** Fuck no - too dam big for any vehicle ** Fuck no - sound quality will be undesirable so I have tried to read up on both of these sides, only to relize i am still confused. the fuck no's will fight you tooth and nail to say it will never work and results are poor, only to get into another knock down and grag out with the fuck yeah's who say come look at my shit and listen to it! now i did realize that in home audio, these folks are sick with it, this is sorta where t-lines came from..... they will put 10k into a set of cabinets for the front room, take up the entire left and right side of that room, and it will be like two 5 1/4" speakers! but off of the math offered from their experiance, folks from car audio started to play with them. first off was small drivers, moving up and changing the math as they did, larger ones were used. there is a crap load of information out there and styles, designs, formulas, opionions, and information..... all weaving back and forth to say either fuck yeah or fuck no! so i am going to filter some of it, apply some of it, and even ignore some of it.... I am going back to my original intentions and attempt to design and build one for the Dakota. Some of my motivation comes from the stand point of how much input on my ported enclosure i have received. there is a crap load of input on it. tunning and volume being the main subjects as well as sub and port placement. i tried the port extension some, as well as poly fill , changd the head unit for a fail, and out of all the things i did do, the one that seemed to create the most change in the music, giving alot more flex to everything in the cab, same output to the ear, i had to go do snow removal and salt applications for a contractor i meet up with, so i threw a bunch of winter werea in the rear of the cab, on top of the box and sub and went to work, decided to un-burry the sub and play the radio, wow, it sounds better! no idea of how many cubic feet of gloves, hoodies and boots to use, but it seemed to do wonders for what i personally wanted from the sub. lol. so, as long winded as this was, watch for my new build log soon. chop

Three 12" Kicker CompVR's in a Chevy Caprice

He liked it alot, quite a bit more output. currently, there is no sound at all though. The Legacy amp is supposed to be 2 ohm stable, and the subs were wired at 2.67 ohms, the amp is no longer powering up. no led is on , no protect or power led, no issues with the fuses, all solid wiring, it just died. Now, is it that Legacy is a P.O.S. ? or is it that it knew I was not going to tolerrate it's existence but another week tops, before i replaced it? so it lost the will to live, and died, quitely in that trunk ! regardless, I can only assume that going from what would be less than 150 watts per sub to a closer 400 watts per sub, will only offer much improvement. I have been super busy with work and also my new design, we will have to catch him this weekend and see how things go. chop

That would be a great idea as I have some available for him. Are those speakers in the rear deck that I see, it looks like two different little speaker combos next to each other between the factory speakers? yeah it is, i have not even attempted to look at them yet, there are those, as well as a pair of 6" x 9" 's in the rear deck, and a pair in the rear seat, and two different front door speakers..... if i had to guess it will be a few more days yet, i am thinking the weekend. What do you mean by he has a pair in the rear seat, actually cut out the seat and placed some in there. If so somebody stole my idea, I did that about three years ago to my car and another car for kicks but wont do it again. man i wish it was that pretty, or thought provoked, no it is just two open faced speakers laying in opposing corners of the rear seat, like Grandma does with them little square pillows on the couch!
