  1. So I have now went through 2 sets of Focal components. First went one of my tweets, so I replaced both (upgraded to newer version). then went one of my door woofers several weeks later(again replaced them and upgraded to a newer version as well as newer crossovers.) So now im going to start a anti-focal epidemic in my car. I currently have an alpine fully ipod deck the IDA-X001 or something. (the first version) and am running a Alpine PDX 300.2 with a Rockford Fosgate 360.1 sound processor. What do you recommend for the next set? and Any suggestion or is it just bad luck with focal? The leads keep burning off and you can smell them so idk if I need something a bit beafier? The car is fully dynamated btw including the doors theyre mounted it. Another question. I have a JL audio W3 (that one day I will replace with a fi sub) and I custom built its box. I was wondering if you would suggest to close off the ports that were made (which is easily done with pvc caps) and replace them with 4 inch aeroports? Heres the box and the car domain page. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2633748/3

    Porting for a BL12

The inside is about 1.9 cubic feet and im trying to get around the recomended 32Hz.

    Porting for a BL12

Excuse my illiterateness but does that mean 2 3inch ports at 9.42 inches?

    Porting for a BL12

Im sorry. theres supposed to be a multiply by 4 in there as well and that puts out 28.3

    Porting for a BL12

    That would be a 3 inch port about 4 inches long correct? {(pi)*1.5^2=28.3in^3}

    Porting for a BL12

I forgot. I did the math and it comes out to be roughly 1.9 cubic feet.

    Porting for a BL12

How about this? I take the box and add 3 inch ports as suggested through the bottom where it is wood and not fiberglass? It is on stilts and would have air to breath. Heres the basic set up before I have completely installed it (I just built the board to hold the amps today.) Im going to add 1 inch risers ontop of the 2x4s already raising it. These were my initial ports, 1 on each side. I sealed them because I thought the JL sounded better sealed. Heres the bottom where I would add the 3 inch ports. How many do I need? I think Nick recommended something like this- http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=268-350 Instead of going with multiple ports should I go with one larger size than a 3 inch? Thanks again, Chris

    Porting for a BL12

I got an email from nick at Fi today saying "Personally I do not think that you have enough vent area for a single 12 with 2 2.5" ports. Typically we run 2 3" aeroports on a 12" sub and it works fine." Now I have a fiberglass box that has pre-molded 2.5 inch ports that have flares on both ends for easy breathing. now, theres are adjustable with addition of pvc piping. Will there be problems with the sub if I use the 2.5 inch pvc and just extend it a little for breathing purposes? Thanks for your help guys, I'm electronically savy, just not to specifications like porting and such. Chris

Dual 1 ohm? or dual 2 ohm on a BL12

    Thank you.

Dual 1 ohm? or dual 2 ohm on a BL12

Yea, I understand that, but I have a decent cooling system ran along with my stuff where as most people shove theres in a trunk and expect it to be the best. Its built by JL and is cheap for what it is. I can look into other amps as well, but I'd like to get as much life off this one as possible. If I dont know for sure I'll go with dual 2 ohm and stick with the universal option to chang to dual 1 ohm later. Thanks for your input.

Dual 1 ohm? or dual 2 ohm on a BL12

if I ran it at .5 ohms, how much more would the amp put out? would it over power the sub?
  14. I currently have a tma 1000.1 (http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=18633) supposed to run 1000 watts at 1 ohm. Now I have decided to go with the cooling, the flatwind and the universal options. Which should I go with. I've been told 2 ohm, but I just want to make sure before I order the BL12. Thanks, Chris

Nick, I emailed the "sales@fi" account with BL 12 in the subject line? I got an auto response. Basically I'm just looking for advise on how to port it once I receive it? "I have a Chrysler Crossfire with a custom built fiberglass box. It has ports that can be closed or opened. The ports can be adjusted in length as well with the addition of more 2.5 inch pvc. The box is roughly 2 cubic feet." I was thinking about getting it with the dual 1 ohm. I have an amp that will run 1000 at 1 ohm. Should I go with dual 2 instead? I was planning on getting it with the hyperpole and flatwind upgrade to, and could possibly be persuaded into getting the cooling feature as well. I have heard a lot about you guys and am excited to work with you. I'm open to suggestions, I just want to make an educated decision based on the parameters of the box and shape of the car. And purchasing right off the Fi website is the way to go correct? http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2633748 Thanks again, Chris
